Aramis made better macro decisions and executions, being quicker to establish water control, quicker to establish presence on the mainland, better positioning of his resources and castles, and better eco overall. The only reason he lost is micro. He was not as good as Tatoh at multitasking, or controlling his army during engagements. Tatoh's micro helped him win battles he should have lost, and pick apart the multiple fronts of this battle.
Aramis had for like 20 minutes idle 40 villagers at least, 60 at peak (40.-60. minute). And to add, if he made one treb + 10 soldiers to secure mainland, Tat would be gone.
That was a big mistake, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't paying much attention to that battle because he was managing multiple naval battles and macroing.
Incredible, incredible game. Even the original campaigns are amazing. Stories, illustration cut scenes, cgi cut scenes that were awesome for their time. And amazing voice acting. They poured a hell of a lot into the original age of empires 2 and it's expansion. HD isn't half bad too. Some of the updates are great and much needed.
Absolute classic game, definitely worth shelling out $20 for, or if your not fussed about the HD version you could probably pick up an original for a couple of quid 2nd hand online.
1:03:10 the mangonel turns this game around. Fires while literally dead and gets the millitary pop from 68 to 49. If there was one more hussar attacking it, something dealing 6 damage, so even 2 hits of a vill wouldve been enough, the second shot wouldn't have come out. Now tell me AoE 2 is not a game of details.
I'll add one to it. Magonel has 41 Attack, is down hill so does 25% less damage. Skirms have 35 HP. 41 * 0.75 = 31 damage by the mangonel IF it was alive! The mangonel died while the shot was mid air making the shot ignoring the downhill damage reduction. 1 hit more it would not have fired, 1 hit less and it wouldn't have killed the skirms in 1 hit
Another turning point: when red was about to destroy that building on blue's island giving blue chained mail or something, and the building had only 63 HP left. Red had like 10 farmers and two horsemen just next to it but didn't finish off the building.
it was so close of not happening too, when i saw that mangonel just standing there i was at my edge of sit mentally screaming "shoot! shoot!" and then it shoot! ...and misses. the skrims already moved. and it's going to die in a moment. and the second shot comes out and wipes more than half of that skirms army just before it dies!
I haven't played it in about 15 years, still got the original CD from when it was first released in 1999. I was never good enough at the micromanaging economy & war which is why I play total war: Shogun 2 as my main RTS game. That said it's awesome watching the pros go at it, great match n good commentary.

I've never seen anything so absolutely brilliant. It makes me realize just how terrible a player I am, lol. I learned so much, watching this game. Thank you for casting it.
As someone who used to play with AxE way back in the day on the Zone its amazing to see this game still alive and some fantastic players out there. This was a great game to watch and the commentary really just highlighted the entire match. Great video and awesome game all around.
Aramis really needed to mass units on the mainland and not just spam them into death for so long. He had the lead in every other area most of the time but his army control was poor. Pity. He played great.
I really hate to judge the play of a player like red who is so much better than me, but if he had held his condos until he had a group of 20 or so and then made a push, he could have killed Tatohs mainland army easily, instead he walked in piecemeal and got ate up by the skirms. He should have moved some of his eco to the mainland earlier, and leaving those relics in range of the water was a really poor choice. I know that high level players always value the seconds of 'idle time" and build everything close to where the vill currently is, but take an extra 5 seconds to move that monastery placement slightly more inland, and then add some towers for control, especially when Tatoh has made no move to the mainland until about 45 minutes game time
He'd have to make more transports, if one died loads of unit would die with it. He should have snuck his barracks on the south west part of the island and made a 20 man squad there. You can see around 15:10 that red hasn't properly scouted there. If he had he could've made a small base to the left of Tatoh's southernmost dock.
If you're spending all that gold on condos and it's not working, why not switch to knights? Even a mix of knights and light cav. Would have shredded all those skirms and at that point in time, Tatoh didn't have any any quick answer.
@@stooge_mobile the reason he didnt is because he already had all the infantry upgrades, but no cav upgrades, so tech switching to match the skirms means that he has to wait another 5 or more minutes and spend thousands more res in order to match Tatoh. The condos beat skirms, just not if they get sent in 1 at a time into 20 or more skirms.
Outstanding performance by Aramis, I think what was left for him was the Micro in economic and military operations. Still to put Tatoh against the ropes not 1 nor 2 not 3 but more times is an achievement in itself. Legendary Good Game
I'm no expert but it seems like Aramis did two things more poorly than Tatoh. One, his raids aimed to destroy Tatoh's base, not just cripple it. He would build production buildings that ultimately wouldn't do enough damage before they were destroyed. Two, he transitioned to trash and large army numbers too late. He still had 130 villagers or so too far into the game, and was producing more resources than he consumed. He should have drawn out his resource collection a bit and amassed more military so he could actually overwhelm Tatoh. I ain't no expert, and I'm oversimplifying. Those are the two take aways I can see.
What a game! This was realy the best game i have ever seen! Realy, so many details, so many focus-changings! And now it is over 1 hour later! I have to do so much today, but this video was so interesting, that i cant stop watching. Thank you, that you cast this!
T90, you should call red "Aramis". Not just red. He is a very respectable player in the AOE Hispanic community, and one of the best Migration players in the whole world
I did not know there is a scene for AoE2, but I'm very excited to have found it. Thanks for the videos and introducing this magnificent community to me :)
Had an idea for a scenario: Player 1 starts with a heavily fortified position, a small army, and some knights, plus 3 villagers and town centre as their economy. Player 2 starts with 4 town centres, 10 villagers and 5 millitia at each. Effectively economy vs military.
Same starting resources? High or low though, I'd say if it's even, economy has it in the bag. Depends on how many resources and how large the player's fortified position is, and if there's castles and production buildings, or just towers and walls, though. Would be interesting for sure
I feel like italians cannon galleon game is under appreciated because they can get all three major techs to run an above average cannon galleon game (shipwright, cannon galleon tech and the elite upgrade) all at half cost! Also italians get gunpowder units 25% less! Their cannon galleons are 128 wood and 120 gold (originally 200w & 150g) and they take half the resources to set up!

So many backseat pro's in the chat here. Give credit where its due. Red wasn't bad at all and if his micro was slightly worse than Tatohs thats just what its like at the very top. I doubt 99% of the chat could match red gameplay in this game especially for such a long duration. GGWP Aramis.
"Hey kids, it's me, Erik the Red. Drinking mead is a great Norse pastime, but always keep an eye on your rigging. Take it from me, don't drink and sail, or you might end up in an archery range."
51:00 Are we there yet? lol This was the closest I've ever seen a game come to the "end-game" where all of the wood is mined out and the only income is from relics. That would be a thing for sure.
Ok, that pushback by Aramis at the 55 minute mark was really impressive. I thought it was over at that point. But no, he still got a fair bit of fighting left in his economy.
AoE2 is insane. I went to the bathroom leaving this running when Tatoh was at his lowest point this game, come back and he's suddenly like 50/50. I couldn't have been gone more than 4 minutes lol
I'm sure you've had somebody say it before now, but for those wondering about the tech tree: If you look at the tooltip of the lower tech unit, IE: Long Swordsmen, it will list all of the potential upgrades. This will include the Upgrade to Two-Handed Swordsmen. It will list the cost for the upgrade at the same time. So to check to see the cost to upgrade a unique unit to Elite, look at the Non-Elite version. (It makes total sense. I swear.) ;)
I think the only reason arramis lost was his force concentration. When his front line collapses, he just sends units in one by one to their death. Total waste of infantry. If he needed to keep him busy, use pikemen. While that is happening, get a diverse force of units which can counter various attacks. Then restart the offensive. Instead he just blew all of his gold! Also having his relics virtually undefended was crazy lol. But I think by that time he thought he had full control over the water. Which he didn't. In fact, Tato controlled the southern middle west portion to the north west portion by holding the line with his long boats. When he got CTRL of the whole mainland, he should have made a final push to drive blue out of the sea with galleons. These galleons could then support the mainland advance. Anyway, hindsight. A good tactical learning experience for Arramis.
Nothing could have prepared me for that game. In the end though pro players are pros for nothing. Red had ample opportunities to create just 2-3 onagers in mid-game and some juicy shots were forthcoming against Tatoh's skirms, that could have been the game right there. Well Played Aramis, hero performance!
T90 official you're an amazing caster you got me rehocked I the game and I try to catch your live streams but I live in India and its always odd hours also twitch doesn't handle compression as well as RUclips so the stream I really low quality also If you could look into simulcast you could cast both to RUclips and twitch anyway love the content keep up the good work

Another Argentinian player! well, good to know that there is a partner of the same country as Nicov out there. Viva la Patria! Greetings from Argentina T90
Blue is on the backfoot most of the game with Orange constantly base harrasing and with a stronger navy overall, however blue manages to hold on against all odds, eventually turning the tide and pushing oranges base.
Once again, somebody neglects his Relics, gets them stolen from him, and throws the game. If I were Red I would have moved those Relics off the mainland, fortified my starting island a little with Towers, and put the Relics as far away from the fighting as possible.
Boy red really missed the chance to do Champions. Condottiero is good but in some moment of the game red has gold and tatoh was using only trash units. Champions were the key of the victory.
I really liked Red's early game and the way he covered the central island with units and buildings to intercept any hostile villagers. However, I think he didn't utilize his advantage enough, to my untrained eye it seems like he could have built a lot more economic infrastructure before Tatoh could come back.
Fun fact: There is a chess opening called the Ruy Lopez opening, or the Spanish game. Named after a 16th century player. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruy_Lopez
Very few comments about this, so I will make one. It was disrespectful calling one player by his name and the other by his colour. You downplayed what TaToH said about Aramis, which was that he's the best water player in the world. You said more than once that most people have never heard of "Red", and that it's not like he's a top 20 or 30 player.
@@plastiKreal well, disrespectful is one thing, tho I'd say after that game, "red" deserves more than just being a color in my opinion, and I don't see what would be hard by calling both players by their names in a 1v1...
I would guess that it's not an intentional slight, but rather because he knew the TaToH player more personally. Agreed that it would have made more sense to just call Aramis by name from the start. By the end of the game he was calling him by name, so at least it got sorted out eventually!
While I can see why you’d think he threw it, I think it was more just Tatohs superior skill that won out. It was a dogfight game that lasted long which means that the person who can keep up the macro longer will win because they’ll be more efficient. Sure there were times when it’s “Why would you do that red?!” But they’re clicking everywhere and we’re sinpl watching. I don’t think he messed up so much that Tatoh just inherently knows more, can react faster, and probably can keep his focus on more things at a time.
Aramis made better macro decisions and executions, being quicker to establish water control, quicker to establish presence on the mainland, better positioning of his resources and castles, and better eco overall. Perfectly summarised. They can learn a lot from each other.
Yes. Aramis was the strategically better player. But Tatoh had better units and applied them better, with better tactics.

Several times I was thinking "How the hell can this game go on 60/40/30 min more from here? It must be over now!" xD
I'm sure you've had somebody say it before now, but for those wondering about the tech tree:
If you look at the tooltip of the lower tech unit, IE: Long Swordsmen, it will list all of the potential upgrades.
Just decided to rewatch this masterpiece game again. Probably by now we can call this match AOE2 classics. :)
Outstanding, what a close match
Nothing could have prepared me for that game. In the end though pro players are pros for nothing. Red had ample opportunities to create just 2-3 onagers in mid-game and some juicy shots were forthcoming against Tatoh's skirms, that could have been the game right there.
Well Played Aramis, hero performance!
Great game, great cast, great community - I'm awestruck. Minor nag though T90: When it comes to Hussars, the stress is on the _zɑːr._
T90 official you're an amazing caster you got me rehocked I the game and I try to catch your live streams but I live in India and its always odd hours also twitch doesn't handle compression as well as RUclips so the stream I really low quality also If you could look into simulcast you could cast both to RUclips and twitch anyway love the content keep up the good work
Cool lastname
Yea lel😂😂😂
This is crazy man, great game narration
Amazing how one mango shot can change the entire game.
at 20 min I thought tatoh was done at 37 I thought he would win and the game would be over soon but then I saw how I was only halfway through the vid what a game man
So many skirms 😂
Another Argentinian player! well, good to know that there is a partner of the same country as Nicov out there.
Viva la Patria! Greetings from Argentina T90
Man I miss this game. Haven't played it in 15 years or more
Blue is on the backfoot most of the game with Orange constantly base harrasing and with a stronger navy overall, however blue manages to hold on against all odds, eventually turning the tide and pushing oranges base.
"argh ... score doesn't mean anything"
"oh damn the mang shot - look at the score!"
:D yeah that's commentary how i know and love it.
Jesus, both of them played exceptionally but Tatoh was on fucking point what a game! Please cast all other games aswell!!
This was undoubtedly the best game I’ve ever watched.
That's the best game of aoe2 I've ever seen. Amazing.
Stunning, show the whole best of five plz..!
29:25
Explainer : if Tattos castle down , he can not turn this match !
Tattoo : watch me !
Man, this makes me wanna start playing this game.
You know that guy is dedicated to researching armor if the building is burning and he is just thinking 46:30
Congrats on getting to 80K subs! Keep at it!!!
Wicked game !! 😁👍
RED had it at one stage, but didn't build enough military to defend what he controlled. 🤔
A pity. 😢
Once again, somebody neglects his Relics, gets them stolen from him, and throws the game.
If I were Red I would have moved those Relics off the mainland, fortified my starting island a little with Towers, and put the Relics as far away from the fighting as possible.
29:28 "I wanna say that red's gonna win the game" still 40', you know blue will win
This is like that episode of Vikings where Ragnar Lothbrok fails his raid on Paris
Now that was an amazing fight!
Every time you say fishing ships i hear fish'n'chips :D
What a game, i do want to see more of this tatoh v aramis
Boy red really missed the chance to do Champions. Condottiero is good but in some moment of the game red has gold and tatoh was using only trash units. Champions were the key of the victory.
I really liked Red's early game and the way he covered the central island with units and buildings to intercept any hostile villagers. However, I think he didn't utilize his advantage enough, to my untrained eye it seems like he could have built a lot more economic infrastructure before Tatoh could come back.
Man what a game. I love me a great battle of attrition
Fun fact: There is a chess opening called the Ruy Lopez opening, or the Spanish game. Named after a 16th century player.

Vamos Aramis!!!
wtf this was insane, one of the greatest game of all times
Wtf is red feeding him at ~40min constantly. Holy crap.
Fake Brews - "disrespectful ".... politically correct people...
Fake Brews - sensitive generation... dare you to watch In Living Colour without judgement
Oh nooo T90 did it again by on “Best nomad game ever?” Video - 15 May 2019
Please upload all 5 games! This is epic!
"I did see game four, I wont spoil the score"
Well we now know Tatoh lost at least one, huh? Fun game to watch, I think red kinda threw it though
