This version is wild. And on the GBA. Amazing what it could do, on the handheld. Back when it was released, it tough to find. It was sold out everywhere Wish this much effort was given to more modern entries. Back when Capcom actually delivered a complete experience.
I did not know it was hard to find, my local Game Stop at the time had at least dozen copies for sale the week it came out, I walked in picked it up, payed, walked out happy as could be.
The amount of stuff crammed into this game. This version was amazing. I was blown away when this came out back in the day....and still amazed to this day!
Another detail to point out is that the portraits, victory and ending screens were drawn by the folks at Udon, also responsible for the long-running Street Fighter comics.
Actually the character portraits and victory art was by Edayan from Capcom- however I wouldn't be surprised if he did the ending art for them too as he now works with Udon on Street Fighter Projects. He also did art for SFA3 and Rival Schools. Fantastic artist!
@@naheemquattlebaum2267 yep for HD Remix! Udon provided the character designs, fighter art and models- as well as backgrounds and ending art. They practically illuatrated the entire game!
Also Vega doesn't get weak when he lose his claw, he got stronger. Instead of his weak claw, he now use his fist which cause much more heavy damage than when he had the claw if player use the heavy punch button.
I remember getting this for the GBA when it came out and being thrilled to finally have a playable version of my favorite fighting game of all-time on the go. But it wasn't just 'playable' it's still to this day a very damn good version of SF II.
Dude I actually started playing some of the games u suggested after being a subscriber for a bit now. I tried street fighter alpha 2 for the SNES. Always fun, Always educational. Always!!!
The character art and victory art was by Capcom alumni Edayan- responsible for art for Rival Schools and the Street Fighter EX series( and much more!). Highly recommend checking his work out!

Top Hat, you've outdone yourself AGAIN, sir. Also, glad you enjoyed your trip to Hungary. NOW... please one day review SSF2TR's forgotten rival for GBA: King of Fighter EX2- Howling Blood! -- Yeaaaaaah...
Great video Hat Man!!! i played a lot this game a couple of years ago, every early morning in free time of my work!!! i remember mastered with Balrgog and Ryu, Ken in every dificulty and was pehnomenal the feeling!! Thanks and greetings from Argentina!!
I didn't even know that this iteration existed. It looks seriously impressive. I will have to look this one up. My GBA has spent far to long in the draw.
thank you for another great video. Yes this version had portrait artwork by artist Edayan from Rival Schools. Also looking forward to your reviews from Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and would be nice to also review Alien vs Predator :)
I had this and the SFA3 remake for the GBA as my only fighting games for the handheld. It had weird controls but it was nice considering it was SF-on-the-go.
As a Hungarian, I can confirm you were hanging around the Pest side of Budapest. The Buda side is the hilly side with the castle, Gelért bath, and Gelért hill with the statue. That’s Heroes square you’re are hanging at ;)
Great episode. Been watching your videos for a while and only realized now that I hadn't actually subscribed to you. I rectified that. The Handhelds 'Round the World song is stuck in my head now as well.
I remember buying this cartridge and being mesmerized by those huge arcade sprites, it is extremely impressive for the GBA which remains one of the best 2D system with the DS
I was completely unaware this version of Street Fighter 2 Turbo existed. It looks surpising good on a hand held system. A correction for Top Hat Gaming Man: the fence crashing down on Vega's stage and the ability to knock his claw off were introduced in Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers. He can also reattach his claw when he walks over it.
Revival maybe the best portable Street Fighter II ever. The controls aren't for a lot of people but they aren't complicating neither. Top Hat, thank you for covering SSFIITurbo Revival.
If you play this game on a modern emulator or FPGA device like MiSTer, you can fix the limited buttons issue, by going into options and pressing L or R and switching control type. This lets you bind attacks to dual button presses, and then you can simply bind those two buttons together on the same key, and have your 5th and 6th buttons. It controls *much* better as a result. still not perfect, but far better than default.
I love this game. I was staying in Hong Kong back then I own the Japanese version. Amazing port. ANd due to the limited space some stages couldn't be ported such as Guile's and we end up having new stages which is fun and fresh for the fans. I love the fact that you can access the bonus game on the bonus game menu.
I love the videos my dude. THough this is video topic is little bit before my time I still enjoy listening to it. Do you like doing game reviews or retrospectives?
Oh wow, I had no idea this game had so many differences. Now I regret skipping it. Good thing I have a GBA flash ca... Errr, too bad I will never play this version! ;) Thanks for the awesome content! Hand held fighting game is about the top possible gaming combo!
.... Why oh why was Ryu's character selection screen picture changed from the young looking fella on world warrior, always wondered but can't find anything about it... Everything else seems to have an explanation
Actually the cage grid in Vega’s level also drobs in Super Street Fighter 2 on Genesis and SNES. Edit: he could also lose his claw, I believe every SF2 did that tbh but at least I know SSF2 does.
HD Remix and USF2 are such huge piles of trash. They look incredibly bad because the low frame counter doesn't go well with HD hand-drawn sprites. Also their content is SO boring.
If you haven't done KOF EX2, then you should review it. It's easily the best FG on the GBA, and lacks many compromises that many of these Capcom titles have.
This version is wild. And on the GBA. Amazing what it could do, on the handheld. Back when it was released, it tough to find. It was sold out everywhere

the gameboy colour port of street fighter alpha is also very cool.

@@naheemquattlebaum2267 yep for HD Remix! Udon provided the character designs, fighter art and models- as well as backgrounds and ending art. They practically illuatrated the entire game!
@Nehemiah Pouncey for this Game boy game, no, there is no Udon.
The best part about this game was Chun li and Cammy's win screens.
AMEN!!!
Yatta!
Correct.
Vega could lose his claw in all SF2 versions. The Cage falling was an arcade only visual post SF2Turbo
@@destructodisk9074 it was one of perks of reaching the boss levels. Like the tree in the foreground on sagats stage. Wasn't in the home version
Yeah. His Street Fighter card is in question after that faux pas.
Also Vega doesn't get weak when he lose his claw, he got stronger. Instead of his weak claw, he now use his fist which cause much more heavy damage than when he had the claw if player use the heavy punch button.
I wasn't sure if it was in every version, but knew it was at least in New Challengers since I had that on Genesis.
Wait. CPU Vega stops climbing the cage after ST?
I love those character portraits. They looks so cool. Just some really great artwork.
THANKS FINALLY I FOUND MY CHILDHOOD GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this one on launch day, and it's still one of my treasured carts. Loved they way they worked in all 6 attacks on a 4-button pad.
I remember playing this and Double Dragon Advance on my gamecube with the gameboy player via component cables.
I been looking at this game on my brothers GameCube player

It is just a shame that the game had a glitch when you managed to get to fight Akuma/Gouki. The game would crash when the Akuma splash screen displays
The version where you get to Gouki isn't glitchy, only the Akuma version was.
