    Great tips, thank you. Question: Inline images do not work with a Page Layout document, right?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад +1

      You can do it, but it is tricky. It would only make sense to try if you had some text in a text box. Bring in the image as a separate element. Then Cut it (Command+X) and go into the text box and position the cursor where you want it. Then paste. Now it is inline.

      @@macmost Apple needs to fix this. BTW the way I insert photos is selecting them in Photos, drag to a page in Pages (which creates a mess) then while all are selected I resize them, add a border, and a title and caption. Then I separate them and drag to where they have to go. I do a newsletter for an orchid society. Members submit photos to me, usually 5 to15 at a time. Using distribute horizontally helps, and the Align Top selection.

    You're a marksman, as always Gary! In my book I've made all my images Inline With Text, but since there are citations at the bottom of every page, only have room to make banners most of the time. The problem is that I don't think many of these will be able to be read if someone isn't viewing on a computer (or printing on paper), if they try to view it on an mobile device, the images will be ludicrously small.

    Gary,
    This was an excellent video. The topic, however, has some tricky challenges to it that are not covered. I've done a LOT of large manuals with many graphics using Pages. I normally prefer to use the "Automatic" selection for text wrap. However, sometimes, a Pages document simply refuses to allow me to place a graphic exactly where I want to place. I'd like to know how to override Pages and "force" fit a graphic to a location of my choice.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Год назад

      Not sure what you are running into here. So you drag an image to a location and it doesn't drag? What happens, exactly?

    I haven't been able to find an answer to this anywhere so I fall at your feet for help. I'm writing a book and bring in images and PDFs into the text. I have text wrap set to Above and Below and Object Placement is Move With Text. Some of the images are large, taking up 1/2 to 2/3 of the page. But often when I make adjustments to anything, the images jump forward and back in the document -- often many pages. How can I insure that an image stays exactly where I place it? Thanks very much.

    • @macmost

      If you choose "Move With Text" then it will do exactly that. Sounds like you want "Stay On Page" instead.

    Your information is great, thank you! I am really trying to understand how to create reverse graphics in Pages so I can do a transfer to a mixed media document. Does your site explain how to do this?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад

      Sorry, not sure what you mean by "reverse graphics." Do you mean make the images negative or something like that? Not sure what a "mixed media document" is in this context either.

    • @laurelvalli1815
      @laurelvalli1815 2 года назад

      @@macmost What I mean is taking any word and "flipping" it so it is backwards. Then you turn the document over and adhere that to a surface like wood or something to create a mixed media product. If you don't "flip" the word backwards, it will be backwards when you adhere it to the wood. I know there is an option in Word to create "reverse graphics" or "flip" words but I have Pages that is why I reached out to you. Thank you for your reply!

    Thanks a lot, Gary. I'm suffering trying to get Pages to wrap text only above and below images that I pasted on a text document and added shapes and little text boxes to it. After grouping all the objects together the now one big object reads "above and below" in the layout controls, but the flow of text doesn't obey it. So I end up having to hit enter many times until after the object, which means many empty paragraphs. The problem with this is that I can't continue the paragraph that was interrupted in the middle... Can't figure out how to solve it...

    • @macmost
      @macmost  5 месяцев назад +1

      It matters what each object inside the group is set to. If it helps, create a white (or transparent) box an set that to Above And Below and then set the rest of the objects in the group to None.

    • @alexandreeisenberg5884
      @alexandreeisenberg5884 5 месяцев назад

      @@macmost Thank you so much for your help! I'm not sure I understood this. Do you mean to create a huge transparent text box and put the image and the drawings I need to be grouped with the image all inside that box which is to be set to "above and below", while everything inside the box is set to "none"? And then group all of this together?

    Pages '09 handled this better, you could have default styling and it remembered much of you what did to the original image including image fit and wrap. Most of that was lost with the new Pages.
    Oddly Apple did pick up on something I suggested which was Object Styling (the old Pages '09 let you copy paste those style attributes or make them a default). The trouble with how Apple implemented Object Styling is it is not a Variable, it is an unnamed Preset, so when you change a Style it does not change objects using that Object Style, which is the expected behaviour, the one used with Text Styles. You have to reapply the changes individually to all objects.
    Apple has also progressively made the Colour Palette worse. CMYK is now effectively unusable and applying named colours is extraordinarily clumsy and unreliable.
    A shame because there are so many things that are good in Pages, having critical flaws means it is never going to be the Semi-Pro DTP App it should have been and once was.
