- talking about how screen region usage plays roles in mapping, plus how i think about it in some understandable and some unnecessary/placebo ways
and hard rock?
next week's video has a lot of irl mapping

You forgot the most important downside of HR: It messes up storyboard animations that are dependent on hitobject position^^
*COUGH* Aleph 0
hardrock players usually disable storyboards so it doesn't really makes difference
lol just flip the animation upside down.
@@novakastmusic But if the storyboard including some word ...........
@@hotgayfurryfeet There would be a solution, where the creator of the map makes 2 storyboards, one's upside down and one that is normal.
"Peepee related issues"
Yea mine is too small
Mine won't grow when I see hot anime girls :( though I've heard there's treatment for it, just gotta find that one guy in #osu chat and he'll hook you up with some good "sotarks pills" .
In both ways
"Loud things are big"
Pishi never had a small dog confirmed
4:36
do not break mapper intentions
Thank you
It also breaks slider art for the few occasions when that's relevant.
1:25 we learn new things everyday
1:34 wheeeeee
hypercyte didn't know that aswell
Sorry to hear that you lost your BN rank qwq
what
finally someone who mentions this! glad it was you, too.
there's also the fact that certain directions are harder to take than others.
particularly pulling (assuming right-handed play, right->left and up->down would constitute as pulling) is far easier to perform than pushing (left->right, down->up).
while a lot of players simply learn to get good at this and thus think there's no difference, inward motions are easier to make because your body is better suited to "curl up" than "spread out" so to speak. as a result it's harder to be precise when moving outwards like that. similarly CCW rotations should put slightly less pressure on the player than CW rotations (again, assuming they're right handed)
this also means patterns in the top left and right corners are slightly more awkward to play than the bottom left and right corners, and the bottom right corner is more awkward than the bottom left. HR would flip these and make some low-on-the-screen patterns (especially diagonal jumps) significantly harder sometimes.
thanks for covering this, i thought this was stuff that people just didn't care for or even considered.
Hey Pishifat, i just want to point out that, from a mappers perspective, you are completely right. And even if you look at it as a player, HR can change maps to be worse then before, but HR also gives you the opportunity to get rid off of mindblocks you have at sertain maps. At least for me, sometimes that can really help if you are playing some maps more often.
I hope more mappers focus on balancing mouse drift
Bunch Berge get a better mouse or tablet
ze_or No? It's not about the quality of a mouse, it's about the hand movement.
CircleNoob personally I used to have mouse drift on my old mouse, and don't experience anymore with my newer mouse.
ze_or It means u learned to subconsciously deal with it to some extent OR changed the type of maps you play, but hey, Idk so what can I say >.>
What about those that doesn't have mouse/tablet?
Also some sliders look really ugly when rotated
b a l l s a c k s l i d e r s
2:40 oof
:^)
I agree with you about HR, when I first used it and it did the flip I instantly thought that it changes what the mapper was trying to convey.
I hate the vertical flip of HR, it's really annoying and ruins mapping concepts.
yes that's what the video is about, good to know you watched it too
Yeah, my comment was a bit stupid. I watched the first 4 seconds and decided to leave my opinion before watching the rest.
then reverse them, 99% of non hd players play with it
My issue is with DT because it makes the music sound unnatural
Yeah, I guess, but it’s for destroying any muscle memory you may have for that map by flipping it. You either sightread, or play it hundreds of times over again. I know which one I’ll take.
Also, yeah, EVERYONE is a human being and has different ideas about what is "good" or "bad", "fun" or "boring", especially for creative works, like mapping, that can ALL be valid in their own ways. Pishifat's got a point there.
i need that big CS map
this is the best birthday present i could have asked for
a pishifat video
I subconsciously focus on the center of the playfield while mapling, though I do make effort to come to edges, I still fail to place objects on the corners. l also wish mappers would start to take into consideration mouse drift a little bit more.
what's mouse drift?
DankLamp5101 if you play with a mouse and lift it up a sometimes you can end up falling off the edge of your mouse mat/table because it 'drifts'
"Hello there so Hard Rock is the worst mod."
*closes tab*
cursor dancing is not always unnecessary movements, it serves the purpose of staying on time, and is to many people more comfortable than tapping your foot for example. That's also why you see more cursordancing when the map goes sharply from 1/4+ to 1/1
HR also kinda messes with sliders shaped like numbers or letters, such as Santa San or We Cry "Open"
The movement thing is probably super subjective, I find straight vertical movement the easiest, diagonal movement from bottom left to top right pretty easy too, and diagonal movement from bottom right to top left as well as straight horizontal movement really hard and uncomfortable. I'd also assume there's a general difference between mouse and tablet.
I wish HR didn't flip the playing field, but at the same time it'd be weird to change this far in
it's just a remnant of how it was in ouendan
+pishifat could you talk about experienced mappers decision ???
osu!lazer pls add a "Hr flips playfield" switch for mappers, it doesnt change the difficulty anyways and only makes some maps easiert (eg. freedom dive flipped is easier)
hanairo biyori is still not linked in the description of the video about score v2 and the 9:00 map in ranking process as well
"Use your arm not your wrist to draw circles" from drawing really made aim easier
pish likes the 1-2 jumps from sotarks maps
4:24 I think I do those lol, maybe a difference between mouse vs tablet?
I can see your point with the hr thing but in my opinion that’s not an issue, because you can choose to not play hr. If you want to have the correct experience of a map you should play nomod, if you want to improve your playing skill, you should play hr and/or any other mods for that matter.
I swear your videos are asmr
Fun fact: if you play with tablet angles are easier than horizontal and vertical movement.
"hardrock is the worst mod" Pishifat is a dt farmer confirmed
no it's just that DT doesn't arbitrarily vertically flip the playfield
8:28 neeeeee~
:angry idke:
Wow, can't believe there is so much more to mapping even a hobbyist like me could use to their advantage that makes maps SO much more fun and challenging (or easy, depending on your mapping objectives), such as the play field usage theories you talked about. ( as long as you don't religiously and blindly overuse them. Get creative with them, of course.)
HR in some cases makes certain maps easier for certain people because of that flip
Platnuu yeah for me its mostly easier to play HR because of the flip idk I just can FC Maps with HR what I couldn't pass with Nomod
I main hr and any map i played more then once is unplayable no mod
from a player perspective, hr sucks because it messes with muscle memory
finally!
I NEEDED THIS. (caps lock)
>stereo control
my right ear 80% deaf thanks
HR does not sux, people is just too nab to deal with it :P
What is this song? 6:52 because it isn't mention in the descryption

Now when people point out how bad at HR I am I can just link this video! :D
maybe momentum can be a good way to calculate pp...
Flying Penguin movement is extremely hard to calculate
Make hr good by mapping upside down Kappa
thats why its HARD rock, its hard to deal with Kappa
HR is small Mod
you failed to make the video to 10 minutes lol close
Need longer outro
Aaand Iii wiiill seeeeee yooouuu neeext weeeeeek.
When you forget about osu!'s roots :C
Well this isn't a problem for Australians...
Oreo
I hate EZ because AR
i still think EZ is worse than HR
Second half of video is literally about how to create decent pp farm map..
No.. please don't give them IDEA...
This video went from Hard Rock sucks to Hard Rock sucks
osu!mapping: how to make pp maps
what
[Uber's easy 2]
9 minutes and 58 seconds of bitching about a simple design change of hard rock... I'm surprised it came out so tame, to be honest
other things of somewhat obvious note - sliderart in specific shapes on hard rock results in upside down ickier versions of that sliderart (something I wish could be implemented is a little marker for shapes like this stating they won't be flipped during hr, although i'm sure mappers would just end up using this on every object eventually)
- something you mentioned in a previous video, that movement away from the player is slightly more straining than movement towards them, something hard rock directly flips
- no mention of maps designed to be challenging _because_ they're so closely packed? while cs was mentioned there's more to it than that, as having notes clustered together can result in a neat gimmick in its own right, though you are correct in that most of it's uses as of now are unintentional. i think a map designed around having all the objects be in an enclosed space could be interesting, depending on the map itself
- that "aleph" leaf aspire storyboard map that got people talking doesn't have a method of flipping its storyboard with hr, making it all but impossible to clear with it, just because of the hr flip itself - i don't think adding a feature to flip storyboard would be useful with any other map, so time shouldn't even be spent on it - there's another argument against it with the earlier suggesting of preventing sliderart flips
all in all... stop messing with well designed maps in the name of score/pp D:
Your voice kinda reminds me of Yandere dev
I'm a HardRock player I feel offended ;_;
PPPPPPPPPPPP
Wtf lmao
910th
I think you're running out of ideas lol
HR is my favorite mod so I didn't watch the whole video
