The one thing that sets this show apart from other teenage romance shows is that there is actual communication between the love interests. There’s no unnecessary drama or whatever bullshit usually gets thrown at viewers. Simon says what he wants and even Wilhelm saying he wants to be held. They’re so gentle and affectionate with one another it’s soo beautiful to watch.

the football field scene is something else😭 1. edvin said he improvised the „all the people are fake“ talk 2. wille was so high that he just said everything he wanted to say to simon but still was afraid that he disappointed him (the „are you mad at me“ part) bc his biggest fear is disappointing people he loves 3. he walked all the way to the football field bc it’s the first time he felt like a normal person and people treated him like he’s normal. and the fact that he remembered the way high af when it’s normally a bus ride 4. HE REMEMBERED SIMONS NUMBER WHILE BEINH HIGH😭😭😭

The football field scene is a cinematic masterpiece. I'm just going to say that.
I love that there is a lot of breathing in the kissing scenes and just generally a lot of hand holding, staring and focusing on details. It just feels so real and authentic. Y’all this is why we need more shows directed and made by women!!

Nah it’s established pretty early on in the show, Felice calls it a „superpower“ because Sarah gets on with horses so well and doesn’t appear to care what other people think about her.
I feel like a lot of fans of the show kind of disregard that when assessing Sarah’s actions in the show..

The fact that Malte Gårdinger (August) originally audition to be Simone, blows my mind because he plays august so well, I can’t even see him playing Simone.😳😅 But I’m obsessed with the show either way😂
I listened to a Swedish radio show yesterday where Rojda was a guest. For the casting process She said they tried out different things. Like, they would make them audition individually, in groups and in pairs, and She said nothing could beat the instant chemistry they saw between Edvin and Omar. Noone came close, and it was a now brainer.
We don’t know Malte’s sexuality. Maybe he chose to try out for the role for Simon cause he wanted lgbt-representation? 🤷🏻♀️

I can't get over the fact that this is Omar's (who plays Simon) first ever acting role. Like WHAT. How is someone that talented? He's a Swedish popstar, so thats why they cast him in the singing role! And Malte, who plays August, is literally the sweetest human ever in interviews and I cannot fathom how he plays August so convincingly.

I do have to say as toxic as August is I have to give Malte snaps for playing him so well to make us all wanna snap him in half…plus the football field scene and some other scenes coming up in future eps are honestly some of my fave scenes - love, love loving these reactions 💜💜

@@niamhne8046 I think he will have to face the consequences of leaking their sex tape because Simon's mom want to report it to the police but he will probably aide Willhelm in some way. I hope he gets a redemption arc because I can genuinely feel his guilt when Willhelm confronted him.
I want a whole episode of Simon trying to get Wilhelm and the bicycle back to Wilhelm's dorm. It had to take forever. 😂
In 6 short episodes, these two became one of my all-time favourite pairings simply for how realistic and relatable their relationship is. They're just two kids falling in love, navigating obstacles beyond their control. And, most importantly, their romantic scenes aren't over-sexualized. They're sweet, affectionate and filled with emotion, just like the boys are.
If you think you hate August now... Buckle up. In his defense, I will say that it's clear that he didn't have malicious intentions. I think he assumed Wille was hooking up with a female classmate and only intended to rib him about it, and boast to the other boys since that's a conversation they previously had in their dorm. You could see the shock on his face when he realized exactly what, and who, he had captured. But the fact that he even thought to record it says a lot about the toxic hook-up culture among boys.
I'm still on episode 4, but i can already agree. I mean, i have watched a good amount of gay movies and a few shows. And don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great ones, like Victor and Benji (love, Victor), who are amazing, but they don't feel realistic to me. Same goes to a lot of characters.
But Wille and Simon are just amazing. If you told me that they are the prince of Sweden and a normal, poor guy, I'd never believe it, but they truly are one of the most realistic feeling couples I've seen. And omg aren't they cute!?
Btw, if you like them you might like Isaak and Even from the season 3 of the Norwegian show "SKAM". That's if you haven't watched it already ofc. Anyway, they are a couple that just kills me. They are so cute, but so realistic at the same time. Tbh, I'd put them at the same level as Wille and Simon

Thanks for the recommendation. I've actually watched almost every available S3 of every version of SKAM(and every gay couple that I can find tbh). Isak and Even are my forever faves. The French version is the only one that comes close for me but nothing will ever surpass OG.
I have a love/hate relationship with Victor and Benji but I do love them most of the time. I just don't agree with a lot of the writing choices, especially where Benji is concerned.
@@VampireMadonna yeah, that's also a pretty great part of Young Royals to me. The casting. Most of these actors aren't perfect. In fact, most of them aren't "perfect" at all. For example, Wilhelm has acne.

100% agree. But, to be honest, it's amazing to me. I loved Benji in season 1 and they almost made me hate him in season 2.
i agree! just one thing tho, when the video gets leaked you can see there’s parts that august didn’t film the first time, meaning after he saw it was simon he went back and recorded more.
@@paige3944 I don't think he did, because we see the shock on his face when he realized who it was and he almost fumbled when he stopped recording. What probably happened is that in post-production they used a different version of the video than what we were shown him recording. It happens a lot with jump cuts in film and TV.

Remember that this school has a very toxic hookup culture. When they ask their classmates to step on the dining table to talk about with who they hooked up. August being part of this culture just wanted to record the crown prince with whoever girl he was hooking up at that moment to give him a hard time about it, very fratboys style. But he actually stopped recording in shocked when he realized who he was with, you can see in his face his surprise and confusion and also he hates Simon…

I stayed up at 3 am last night to finish watching the whole season after telling myself I would only watch two episodes. This show broke me, the second half of the season broke me and now I’m telling my friends to watch so we can be broken and obsessed together

It’s just so good you get hooked and then they leave like every episode on a cliffhanger so then you want to watch the next episode to find out what happened and then it repeats until you watched the whole thing 🤣
The transition of my reactions: "Awwww" to "AHHHH" was too quick. That bedroom scene just got me.
This episode was sooooo intense ! the "let's started a revolution" part with the hug, with Wille's words like "you're beautiful" "are you mad at me" , so sweet, one of my favorite scene ! And of course the chemistry in the love scene (*-*) (in every scene let's be real) but August ruined everything, he put us all in a horrible stressful situation in the middle of Wille' and Simon first time >< how rude... August is such a pain, who takes a video in that kind of situation ? please !!!!!!
I love that Willie is finally starting to except who he is as a person and told Simon how he felt,and he proceeded to act on those feelings. It shows real growth like an actual real life relationship.

Yeah, I also find all the connected languages really nice sounding Danish, Swedish, Norwegian. It's interesting to hear the very slight differences in pronunciation that I can hear as a person who only speaks english...which isn't a lot because... English speaker. But I CAN see/hear some tiny differences between Skam and this show.

Btw, I don't know if you have already, but there's a Norwegian show caled Skam. It's amazing. Specially Season 3, it's about a gay couple. And it's shocking to me how much i like hearing Norwegian

A lot have been said about the football field scene, so I'm just gonna add this. Wilhelm did not just express what he really feels for Simon, but also about his life as "The Prince". The way he screamed "you think you know me, huh ? You don't !" because everybody is watching him, judging him, as the prince, but nobody really know him or see him for who he is, and nobody seems to care about how he feels about this life. They care about the appearances, how he looks as a crown prince, and what he should do and say. It's like he is not even a person but just an image, and he can't be him but just what the royal family tells him to look like. But Simon sees him as Wilhelm. He likes him for who he is. That's why he is so suprised to see him "you came. You really came". Because it's the first time someone care about HIM and how he feels. Even after he pushed him away. And still, he was afraid to disappointe him.
Young Royals is so good, smart, cute, intense, deep ! Yes, I'm obsessed.

one thing i love about this show is it seems like simon and wilhelm run towards their problems, not away from it. idk how to explain it but i’ve seen in other shows like love, victor, victor and benji didn’t talk their problems out much, they yelled at each other and then victor kind of “developed” (idk about that one tbh) a crush on rahim which felt unnecessary because he’s basically just looking for someone to take his mind off of benji. this show didn’t do that, prince wilhelm and simon definitely have their off moments but as we saw in this episode, they always find their way right back to each other. i love it.

@@sabahk Edvin specifically confirmed that the montage of high Wilhelm was improvised and the phone call (including the “all the people are fake” line) too. The way the whole team talks about the show though, it makes me believe that the entire scene was most likely improvised. If so, props to Omar for reacting so convincingly and so “in character” to Edvin’s action.

This show makes me feel something I can't even put into words. When I watch their chemistry my heart and brain spin around and around. And even if I just think about them I smile to the point where it's so noticeable that I'm surprised my parents don't even ask why.
I felt the same way when I was in love with my first bf. Now all these feelings again, but for a show, it's kinda crazy, to be honest. Hahahah
In that case, I'd recommend you season 3 of SKAM. It's a Norwegian show, it was a pretty big success and season 3 is about a gay couple. It's a budget show, so it has a minimalistic vibe to it, but the cinematography, acting, writing and casting are all there. The main relationship has a bit of a different vibe from Young Royals, but it also made me feel in that way you described

I've seen a lot of people joking and saying that they should've closed the curtains (I don't remember seeing any but that's not the point) and everything would've been avoided.
The problem isn't the curtains or the door lock, the problem is August invading their privacy and recording them
E04 was a rollercoaster --- from grief (why are my boys getting hurt) to elation (I've won!) to disaster (Oh, no -- why are you recording...)

Exactly. I wouldn't say one season, but this happens a lot with me. In shows with episodes with 45+ minutes, so much stuff happens in one episode that i feel like I've watched 2 or 3

Afer conversation between Prince Wilhelm and August about switching place. My ultimate theory about this series is... at the end Prince Wilhelm may give up his throne for Simon and line of succession will shift to August's family since he also royal but not in direct line.
