I feel like Sara and Felice had opposing character arcs.
Sara reminds me of Jenny from gossip girls. The girl who’s always trying to fit in with the rich and elite even though she doesn’t have the means or resources to.
I fully understand why Simon didn’t say I love you back to Wilhelm. He has to protect himself since clearly Wilhelm can’t be there for him and he doesn’t have the same privileges as the other rich kids. My respect for Simon sky rocketed after this episode. I appreciate that he didn’t force Wilhelm to come out because that’s something only he has to do. Simon put himself first because he doesn’t want to get hurt again and doesn’t want to be someone kept in the dark. It’s painful yes but it was necessary and healthy. I just hope Wilhelm will find the courage to stand up for himself and Simon next season.
yes exactly what I said! I love that he protected himself from a situation that would only hurt him but I also think he did it partially to help wille because he knew if wille heard him say he loved him that would make it even harder for him having to stay away. I just want my boys to be happy!
I found it strange how no one brought up the fact that the video is child pornography. The boys are under age so it’s even worse. August should been arrested for making it in the first place 🤢

They are 16. In Europe that isn't considered underage. Age of consent is sixteen in most countries. Still a shit move of course.

I think August does/did feel guilty that’s why he is being abnormally nice to William. But he is still an arrogant person and doesn’t want to admit he messed up. I also don’t think he actually cares William is Gay. If William was his pet like he wants him to be, he probably wouldn’t have shown the video at all.

Yeah it's clear he is... Remorseful. Which is good, I guess. Doesn't change that he was the one who leaked the video... But it's good that he feels bad about it at the very least.

I actually think that August can became a nice character in season 2 and Sara... I think she'll be changing too, but for the worst
Sara is still betraying her brother for not exposing august, when Simon finds out she knew the whole time he'll hate her

I’ve watched a lot of interviews with the show writers and honestly this show has been so refreshing to watch. The way Young Royals produced is mind blowing. These creators are intelligent as hell man!! This show should really be the blueprint for all teen shows out there and for the rest to come. So much happened in the space of 6 episodes and it didn’t feel rushed at all. I’m so beyond excited for season 2. This show is legitimately the change lgbtq+ community needed in terms of portraying teenage love between same sex characters.

Even though I was kinda disappointed in Sara’s behavior this episode, I do also kinda understand her. She has just started making friends, friends who genuinely seem to care for her (Felice kept relentlessly searching the video to find something that could keep Sara from having to move away), and now her mother is planning on sending her back to a school where she was bullied so much she had to re-do a year because she was afraid of coming to school. Episode 5 was probably the happiest time in years for her. I understand that she wants to do almost anything to not have to let that go and go back to being miserable.
It doesn’t excuse her getting together with the guy who leaked a video of her brother having sex, but it does kinda make you understand her a bit. I hope she came to her senses a bit after her conversation with Simon
@Maya Raman but it did irritate me a bit when she betrayed her own brother. like she’s talking about simon meeting up with their dad behind their backs but then here she is literally hooking up with the person who leaked the video which basically outed her brother to the world.
i feel like she should’ve comforted him and made him feel better but she does this.
simon would obvs be devastated to find out his sister didn’t tell him who ruined his life, that’s why i can’t feel empathy for her. i hope she gets a redemption but this all isn’t looking good for her in season 2.

What I’m most shocked about is she had multiple opportunities to tell her brother who is responsible for this serious mess created and she didn’t. Her brother has always been her champion and when he needed her most she still chose to keep this a secret. I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about her but it’s not positive or hopeful.
@@sofi3535 okay but,, the fact that simon was meeting up with her dad mightve contributed to her decisions. that still doesnt make it ok but.. thats what realistic and realistic characters are way more fun to watch. also if the story was narrated through saras eyes it would probably seem more understandable
I also thought the queen took it lightly. At least she didn't seem homophobic.. she was mostly upset of the sex tape in general...
Also the school students apart from the genral curiosity but never judging or teasing or bullying Wille or Simon
Sweden was one of the first countries to legalise gay marriage. Generally it's an open society. I also think she was more concerned with the heir situation and the continuation of the monarchy. If Wilhelm doesn't produce heirs, the monarchy would be essentially over, unless they find a way to involve other family members. August, as we all know, would love to be king.
And I though exactly the same thing about the students at school. Nobody was homophobic, not even August. He was just more concerned with what happens to the monarchy.
The queen practically forced her son to stay in the closet forever by scaring him with the amount of media attention him coming out would lead to. Soooo abusive I hate her.
I love how Adam is so used to high drama in TV shows; Every time he stops to talk, he says a comment about how a situation can easily be exploited but it is addressed not even a few seconds or a few minutes later. That’s what is so great about this show! The communication is all there and there isn’t too much unnecessary drama, it all fits and goes along naturally.

I believe she latched onto August because he's probably the first boy to show her attention like that. So even though she probably knows it's wrong, she doesn't want to lose it.
in previous episodes, you can see sara doing subtle things (asking her mum to sit properly at the table, fussing over utensil placement) that suggest that she wishes they were different.
When Sara's acting out, you actually realized that she has always been yearning for this... class and status... Like when on parent's day, she asked Simon to just forget August's discriminating treatment, so they could stay and join lunch... be part of "it"...
Exactly. I keep seeing comments about some viewers being "confused" with how the storyline developed for Sara. Yes, she has Aspergers and ADHD, her condition doesn't negate her desire to achieve a better social standing in her life. She wants more and she sees an opportunity to achieve it. She knows that it'll probably hurt those that she cares about, but she's going to put herself and her wants first. That's exactly what she told Simon to do!
@@VixenByNight72 I don’t actually mind he goal, because what I don’t agree is her means. She is indirectly hurting the ones that actually care for her, like felice, she seems genuine about their friendship, but sara seems to care about the status of that friendship: what she can get out of it. Also, when she keeps the secret from her brother, who is the person with more repercussions in this whole specific situation, because she rather to “black mail” august for her own good, over saying the truth in a situation that directly damaged his brother than supporting simon. So yeah… she is putting genuine people down and being in favor of those who don’t deserve it, to achieve a superficial goal (just hope that her and august learn to let go this whole idea about status, because they are gonna get blind of power and forget the people that should care the most to them, family and genuine friends)l
Totally impressed with the acting and the depth of teh story, esp the romance between the two boys. The slow building of their attraction, the first embrace, the way they held each other. It felt so genuine. I just started bawling at the end, so deeply sad to see their romance come to end because of Wilhelm's position as the future king. It was a painful lesson for him in terms of the demands placed on him as a "young royal". The ending is emotionally devastating. 😭

I literally liked Sara so much but after she did I just can't. I don't know, she should've told Simon about the video right after it happened i get it she was trying to fit in or whatever but that doesn't justify her whole crappy selfish behavior she really need to up her game now and redeem herself for these actions ughh. Also felice's character development is what i'm living for. I hope she can be good friends with both Simon and Wilhelm if s2 comes.
me watching the show over and over again hoping it will somehow magically end different
I’ve rewatched this show so many times that I’ve lost count however I can’t bring myself to watch ep6. Like no matter how hard I try I just can’t. The pain it’s just too much. Realistically I knew eventually there would be a make or break situation for Wilhelm and Simon but not like this. I want nothing more than for them to be together and happy but I don’t see that happening. I know this is fiction but it’s also real life too. An openly gender fluid prince? In a relationship with someone below royal status who is also a man? Sadly still in today’s society there would be backlash and homophobia. Plus I doubt that awful queen would ever let her son abdicate in order to be with Simon.
What's making you identify Wilhelm as gender-fluid? Please be specific about this. He comes across as typically masculine in demeanor throughout.

Adam, if you like Young Royals, you should react to SKAM season 3. It's a Norwegian show from 2016. This season is about a gay couple. This couple also happens to be the only one that I've liked as much as Wilhelm and Simon. I really think you would love it

For some reason watching your reaction to the YR season finale has gotten me all emotional.....even though I've literally binged YRs everyday for like the past couple of weeks and now that the season is finished, it's like what am I doing with my life like!?!?!?! I really, really, really hope it gets renewed for a second season!! Its been a pleasure to watch and touches on a lot of topics that are relevant in todays society without it being too over the top about it all!! All the actors were great in their roles, Edvin and Omar really brought Wilhelm and Simon to life and Malte was amazing at making us despise August so much, I honestly think there is so much more they could do with all the character arcs and not IF but WHEN season 2 drops (gotta manifest that positive energy) I really hope you'll do some reacts for it

The whole deal with sara was quite the left down. However i do believe she can redeemed herself hopefully will be if they do a second season. I get some of her motivation but, keeping this secret from simon ,and Wilhelm that August was the one to leaked the video in return for him helping her stay at the school is kinda shitty i hope she change her mind after her conversation with simon.

I think its interesting because i didn't get the feeling of personal homophobia from Willie's mom. She doesn't seem to really care about willie being gay, she cares about their royal reputation. However even if she isnt personally, the entire monarchy is inherently homophobic systems, and she still playing into that, and prioritizes it over the happiness of her son especially with the "unfortunate A romance " comment.
august only feels guilty bc wilhelm helped him out so much. i think if wilhelm hadn't paid his tuition fees, august wouldn't have regretted leaking the video.

Sarah found friends in that rich boarding school environment so she thinks friendship is contingent upon one's status in life. She was bullied in the former school she attended that she had to redo a year. I can honestly sympathize with her however she betrayed Simon cohorting with August. That's your brother's privacy violator your associating with.

I've been waiting all season for you to get to this point regarding your girl Sara.
I think the writers intentionally subverted the trope where they're both concerned. Whereas people assumed that Felice would be bitchy/mean because of her privilege only for her to end up basically being a saint, everyone coddles Sara and assumes that she's nice because she's a bit awkward and also, in large part, because of how nice Simon is. People just assume that since she's his sister and had the same upbringing, she'll be the female version of him. Also, since she's 'poor' she won't be expected to have any arrogance or elitism and you know the poor are 'supposed' to be grateful for what they have and not aim too high above their means. But I think we're finally getting to see the real Sara, who's not so nice as everyone thought and is actually a bit devious. I don't think she's evil by any means but the fact that her first instinct wasn't to protect Simon by revealing the truth but to parlay that into blackmail material to get her foot in the richie-rich door says a lot. Not to mention that she could've blackmailed August without hooking up with him. Even though Felice didn't genuinely like him, Sara was the reason that they broke up when and how they did so that makes her seem even more deceitful.
And, it's ironic (and hypocritical) that she's kicking up a fuss about having to leave Hillerska when she was the reason that they transferred there in the first place. I think she also resents Simon a bit because he's so nice and everyone likes him and she probably feels smothered by the assumption and expectations that others have of her to be like him. It's why she tells him that he needs to stop thinking about others and focus on himself for once, because she probably feels guilty for doing the opposite. I'm really hoping that next season we get to hear more about what happened in their last school. I know that some kind of bullying was involved but seeing that Sara is no saint, I wouldn't be surprised if there was more to the story.

actually this episode is the only i have some problems with.. the plot, and that makes the characters actions and reactions make me a little bit less invested. its the fact that the media and people are focusing on whether its him in the video, whether its wilhelms boyfriend etc. but simon, who is the only clearly identifiable, is underage, meaning the video is childp*rn. it being on public web and people watching it is illegal and should be the main concern of media and law enforcement
The age of consent in Sweden is 15 so he's not underage.
@@Picko In England for example the age of consent is 16 yet even if they were 16 the video would still be CP because they are under the age of being considered an adult (18). Not sure if it's the same in Sweden but from my perspective this is CP and f*cked up.

I really hate that Sara pressured August into something sexual. Sara knew what August had done, confronted him and then kissed him. How the hell can August say no to her advances in that situation? This is basically a sexual assault and it makes me feel sick.
Even though August is an asshole and kissed Sara once before to make Felice jealous, that does not justify this...
