  • I have many beautiful memories of me helping my mom cut small tender Nopalitos off the big cactus plant we had in our back yard when we were growing up, mom kept it in very good shape because it gave us many cactus pads. My sisters and i sat in the back yard under a big tree and helped my mom remove the spines off the pads, then we washed them well and either diced or sliced them for a delicious meal to come. Nopalitos as we know them are very nutritious and delicious and they are very popular here in South Texas where I was born and raised. Nopalitos can be cooked many different ways and can also be added to cold salads, many people don’t know how delicious they are until they try them. In this recipe of Carne Molida Con Nopalitos you will see how easy they are to prepare. I hope you give this recipe a try. ❤️

    I have never cooked nopales. After retirement, we moved to México. This morning the young lady that helps keep my house clean, brought me some fresh nopales from her garden. She has removed the spines. She doesn’t speak English and I’m a beginner Spanish speaker. We have fun trying to communicate. We watched your video. So today, I’m going to make your recipe using the nopales. Thank you for sharing.

    From Austin Tx. I like you cooking, your teaching makes every dish easy to make. We started learning to help cook at 8 years old,
    I will be 78 years in June. I was born here, but raised in Calif. Since 15 years old.
    4 girls in our family of 8 including our mom and dad. My parents were both very good cooks. Mexican style, made flour tortillas every day. Chili salsa at every meal. Only 3 people in our family eat chili. I so enjoy watching you cook, mostly
    all your dishes we learned to cook at home.

    Rachel, I made this dish yesterday, 04/27/23, for lunch. I enjoyed making it, because I got to use the molcajete I purchased in Mexico and the guajillo chiles I ordered from Amazon since I couldn't find them locally here in Arkansas. My husband nor I had ever had cactus so we were both anxious to try your recipe. OMG! It was over-the-top delicious!! I served this dish with charro beans, which we both love! Today, while we were eating leftovers for lunch, my husband said it was one of the best dishes I have ever made! Kudos to you, Rachel, for sharing your recipe! I will definitely cook this dish again!! Thank you!

    Hi Rachel, I couldn’t believe it when you said you were cooking CACTUS! I’m from England and I’m 80 years old and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a recipe with cactus! I love to try new things but I’m not sure if I can get jars of cactus here, but I would love just to try it at least. Does it taste similar to any other food? Thank you for sharing your recipes with us, I love your kind and friendly way you help us to follow your instructions, and your Ron is a very lucky man. Love from Sandra. X

      Thank you so much for your sweet comment Sandra, we love Nopalitos (cactus) it is tender and it is slightly tart in a delicious way and it is traditionally cooked with Mexican chorizo, scrambled eggs, onions and tomatoes, beef,chicken or pork or just simple beans, and enjoyed with corn tortillas. Hugs.❤

      Goya products are sold worldwide and they should Carry nopales in jars. They will not be as fresh but will do. You could also buy a small nopal plant and grow it yourself. I could eat that everyday.

      How do you use fresh cactus?

    • @leonorlizardo9174
      @leonorlizardo9174 Год назад

      @@doreenkidd2172 as you saw with Rachel's recipe. You need to boil nopales at least 20 minute's, I add onions (these help with viscous ) whole garlic, salt and dried oregano to taste. After they are tender you throw water and use the cooked nopales like a vegetable. E.g. in scramble eggs, or varied sauces. Some use as salad by adding chopped tomatoes diced green onions and serve cold for summer. This is considered a super food.

      Yes, the fruit comes in colors of light orangy yellow, some in light strawberry color, some in a pale pinkish white color. I think Nopales are special cacti that have many subspecies.

Thanks for the memories . I certainly will make this recipe. I’ve made many of your recipes and they have come out so delicious! I always give you credit and recommend your channel. I do have a request as I’ve looked for someone to do a recipe of the soft version of the crispy tacos. The soft rolled ground beef tacos with the sauce and the lettuce, tomato and cheese on top. I haven’t found anyone do it. I don’t know if it’s Tex Mex style. I did see one lady’s channel do it but they were chicken not ground beef. She came close but I would like to see you make them and see how you would make the sauce since you make super sauces. The sauce is almost like the sauce for the huevos rancheros. Thank you Rachel! ❤

    Omg I’m so excited by this recipe. I have the cactus used in this growing in my yard and I knew we could eat the pads if they’re prepared properly but we only ever eat the fruit of the cactus. Thank you so much for this recipe in Australia I had never even heard of ANY recipe for cactus ❤ so looking forward to making this.

      Thank you so much for your comment Gale, nopalitos are slimy, but lose it when cooked and are delicious and very nutritious. I hope you give this dish a try. ❤
