Yo! Your reviews are super helpful in choices im considering, all the way from double dins to tires, to back up cameras ect... my grandfather past away in December so I bought his 2001 toyota access cab 80k miles on it from Grandma to keep it in the family. I've never owned a toyota but always driven foreign cars. My first truck was a Ford. I wanna make him proud with taking care of his baby. I told Grandma ima put my own touch on it. Gonna get a custom tag in grandpas honor. 💪😁💯
That's great to hear man! It's really cool that you are breathing new life into your grandfather's truck! I love these trucks, and I'm sure you will too! Thanks for watching - Sal
Awesome videos bro I subbed and i am going through all your tundra videos. I have a 05 double cab 4x4 with 170k miles and I found your video because next summer I will be using it to tow a car about 3700lbs + trailer from MD to TX. Your video put my mind at ease a bit and then I found your whole playlist! Keep it up man
Awesome review & I didn’t know about a lot of what you pointed out! I got these yesterday $185x4 I had them installed all under $920. I absolutely LOVE these tires the look is awesome! Mine are 275/60/20 size they definitely ARE heavy! Good wear for 10K miles thanks for showing the treads makes me like em even more now! 🍻
Yeah for sure! I've got over 30k on them now and went to get the truck aligned and the guy asked me if they were brand new tires 😂 the treads still look that fresh. They're loud, but other than that they've been great. Thanks for watching!
For anyone who wants to know. You can put up to a 285/70/r17 tire with slight bumper trimming on stock suspension, you will need 1,5 inch spacers though. I have that size on my truck and it almost makes it look lifted, also has that awsome chunky big tire on small is truck look. I will post a video of it shortly for any other tundra owners looking into tires
great review Sal. I have Hankook Dynapro AT2 on my tundra now but will probably be in the market for new tires in the next year so I'll keep an eye out for these cause the Hankook's have skyrocketed in price. Also just thought I'd throw this out there cause my 05 needed it, Amazon sells these wipes called Cerakote ceramic trim coat. You get 10 wipes for $17 and they last a long time. All of your black trim will be black and not faded grey and all you do is wipe it on. super easy. Looking forward to some more vids👍 240 looks sick as usual. 🤙
Thanks man, but yeah these tires could be a good option. And thanks for the tip about the trim coat, mine definitely could use some work lol 240 videos will be coming up soon enough! Thanks for watching - Sal
Funny you should mention it, I just did a video a few days ago because I got rid of them. They got way too loud. ruclips.net/video/dJ8MOIuq2A4/видео.html
Yea i not long ago switched from bf goodrich ats to these and i notice they are harder, heavier, louder and the truck works harder to run them. But, the tread wear seems very good so far, better than the BF ats which were amazing in that regard, and all others.
Yep, I would agree with all of that. I did just swap them out though because they got unbearably loud. Don't sleep on your tire rotations, I definitely shortened the life of mine by neglecting those. Thanks for watching!
I have these same tires on my 99 Sierra. Been great tires for about 20,000 miles 3 years or so now I have several plug kits from screws and nails and no problems.
I got my 226k mile tundra 4.7 2wd for $800 and had a new frame put on it (due to recall) I have all of like $2000 in the truck now. Impulse buying that old truck is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made
Hey Sal, I was kind of on the fence really bad about buying these tires for my 01 Tacoma, I do tow a 16' aluminum Bass Boat and I wasn't sure these tires were up to the task, but they look really good on your truck so I will be making the purchase, Thanks for the info !!!
Yeah man! The tires gave me no problems at all while I was towing. So from my experience, if that was your main concern I wouldn't be worried. Glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching! - Sal
Hey man, i subbed you, good video. I was looking at these Goodyear Wranglers and also Americus Rugged AT Tires for my old 1993 Ranger. They both look decent and are very similar in price from Walmart. However i like the White lettering on The Goodyear Wranglers. Which may sway me to go with the Wranglers. But the Americus Rugged tires look sick too, with no white lettering though. Your thoughts? PS I went with the Americus Rugged AT tires. They look so much sweeter. Who cares about the white lettering, heck i can get a white outliner pen.
Glad to hear it man! And good choice going with the Americus tires, I just got new tires on my truck because the Goodyears got too loud for me lol. Thanks for watching! ruclips.net/video/dJ8MOIuq2A4/видео.html
Truck looks good! I was wondering if you have ever tried anything to freshen up the trim on your truck? Would you know what works well? It’s hard to tell on yours but the plastics sometimes start to fade on the fender flares and the bumpers. Thanks for putting out great content, keep it up🤙
Yeah my plastics are pretty faded, and I definitely need to freshen them up. A lot of people I follow on RUclips swear by "Solution finish" so I bought a bottle and tried it, but had some weird results. I might try the cerakote one, but I'll keep you guys updated of course. Thanks for watching! - Sal
Hey man...loving the videos. Have you considered putting some wheel spacers on? They are awesome for the looks and handling and under $100😃 i put 1 1/4 inch
Thanks Jody, I have definitely considered wheel spacers. The tires still sit inside of the fender flares so I think some spacers would look nice and aggressive. A concern I had is running into any clearance issues with the frame/fender wells, have you experienced any issues there?
None. I have the 265/70R16 tires though. But still...not even close. The wider stance helps with handling and definitely looks cooler😎😅 i got a set of the aircraft aluminum grade ones for under $100. Worth it for sure. Helps fill out the fender flares and you get that "big tire" look without having to drop $400/tire lol
I also added a compustar 4900s remote start. As a former Floridian who's now in the Midwest I am loving it on those cold mornings. I paid like $150 on Amazon and if you can do a backup camera, and head unit...you can do a remote start💪😎
The remote start...everything you need to get to is basically in 2 places right under the drivers kickpanel and then the ignition harness where you hooked the keyless entry into. Besides wiring a hood switch and hooking into the brake pedal switch it was it.
That's good to know about the tire clearance, I'll have to look into spacers a bit more - I do like the look. And I've really considered doing a remote start but I didn't think it was a DIY sorta project. It seems pretty doable though! I was looking at the 4900s on Amazon, did you have to buy the "blade" separately? Or did you not need that? I just saw some people commenting that they needed it for their car. 🤷🏻♂️
Wow that's interesting that you don't hear road noise. You must rotate them often. I had to swap them out for another tire because they got too loud. Thanks for watching
6 years I drive with the same tires and still good, but need to change them just because there old but still good. Very good tires, I have a Toyota pickup 4x4 and did a lot of burn outs
They're gorilla lug nuts, but they're a tapered style which only works with aftermarket wheels. The stock wheels have a different style lug. Not sure what kind of wheels you've got, so just wanted to throw that out there. amzn.to/3PEwaho
@@JDMDriveway I have LT285/70R17 116/1130 and they are K2 Off-road wheels, the stock lug nuts only grab some thread it’s like mid way of the lug nut that grabs it. But it’s only the front wheels which is weird.
10ply is not sidewall it's the tread. Duratrac are 2 ply sidewall I'd say these are too. Enjoyed hearing about these. I may get them. Goodyear makes a Duratrac similar tire for Canadian Tire although I think that might be discontinued now.
I've been reading into ply ratings a bit, and I learned that modern tires don't really have "plies" per say, and the ply rating is really an antiquated system. Nowadays, with modern tire technology, it is just used to indicate the equivalent strength of earlier tires with "x-amount" of plies. So an E-rated tire like this one is equivalent to a 10 ply tire before. The more you know. Anyways, I appreciate the insight, and thanks for watching!
Yep, I used the tire calculator website and saw that 265/75r16 comes out to about 31.5 inches tall. Not a full 33, but I'm still happy with the size. Thanks for watching - Sal
i put 5000 miles on a set of 400$ walmart tires great tread still look brand new and are great in the winter dexter i think is the name ive had the goodyear duratac on a ford before and they are completely garbage never buy them not good for mud or snow
The tire mass is not what reduces MPG. Aggressive tread has more rolling resistance on pavement. As the tire rolls and flattens alittle at contact with the pavement it causes the tread to “move closer” since the tread blocks are far apart. But they really cant move closer because they are contacting the pavement causing a slight “bind” which translates to Rolling resistance. 👌
Huh, I never thought about it that way - it does make sense though. I still think that the added mass contributes to the reduced MPG because of the inertia that it needs to overcome when accelerating from a stop. And then once the truck is rolling, your argument takes over and the rolling resistance is what is hurting it then. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I was worried that adding them would make the ride pretty harsh, but honestly I didn't feel a big difference. I have no doubt that doing a legit leveling kit with 5100s would ride better, and I do plan to upgrade in the future. Thanks for watching!
@@JDMDriveway The thing that made me take them off my truck was realizing you cant reach your bump stops anymore. Your strut and strut tower mount has become your new suspension limiter
Hmm, not sure where your spacers sat, but these ones simply sit on top of the strut so everything inside the strut including the bump stop remains unchanged.
@@JDMDriveway They where on top just like yours. Think about it, when you run out of shock travel, your bump stops are there to catch you. Once you have spaced that same shock down, Its now comes first in line before the bump stops of what is going to catch you when you get to the limit of no more shock travel. If the strut is spaced down, increased length but with the same amount of travel, the bump stops would ALSO have to be increased in size to still hit them before you bottom out on the now spaced strut.
