    Hi Derek, thank you for your informative video on ventilation. Im in the process of having a large open plan kitchen dining living room built. I want to have a gas cooker but with a downdraft extractor. Is this permissable? I have a large window that opens to the outside less than 3 meters away and I also have a large 4m patio door about 4meters away. The gas cooker and downdraft extractor will be on a Island. Would really appreciate your advice as my builder is doubtful.

    Thanks for this, I've been struggling with internal kitchens for the past 8 years!
    If the door is big enough can this cover the ventilation requirements alone or does there have to be a window/vent?
    I was to install a cooker in a kitchen last week that had a conservatory to the rear and a porch to the front and living room off to one side. There were no windows or vents into any of the rooms, combined floor area was probably 36m².

    What are the new/amended regs as gas safe have withdrawn all version of TB 005?

    I just removed a window to get the installer to fit the gas cooker, then reinstalled it when he left.

    Just been told by a fitter that I need external fan prior to him commissioning my new (replacement cooker . Yet I have an openable door and an openable window leading onto a conservatory with both french double doors and four openable windows (sizes fall as your diagram) When I pointed this out the fitter said I appreciate that but you might close them when I`ve gone ! Confused !

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  9 дней назад +1

      @@jimtuckwell8142 yes it does. You will require mechanical extraction ie a cooker hood vented to outside or an extract fan to outside to replace your cooker or hob

    • @jimtuckwell8142
      @jimtuckwell8142 9 дней назад

      @@tomkatgastraining Thanks .This going to be a problem . Wish I`d left the old one in ! 🤔 I was banking on the building regs "To comply with Building Regulations, if there is an existing extract fan (or cooker hood extracting to outside in the kitchen) you need to retain (or replace) it. If there is no existing ventilation system you need not provide one." Damn

    I love the videos but I have to correct a mistake.TB 005(a) I believe says that the extractor fan must be capable of moving 30 litres per second not a minute and 60 litres per second if not adjacent the cooker or hob. My question is if the extractor is connected to a class 1 chimney is that considered as going to outside? My thinking it would very likely not work as the fan would not be powerful enough to force the flumes up the chimney any thoughts.

    Another excellent video Derek & well explained, your maths is brilliant I'm not that Good with maths so we're in the same boat, why are building regs making things complicated, the 2 windows was a better idea. Good video.. 👍😁👌

    Well explained 👍 I had a conversation with gas safe regarding this in. gas safety check, and they confirmed it as NCS as the room size was correct. Problem is the appliance can't be replaced As it currently is!
