One thing I noticed the other day with exhaust off on my 99 GT 700 triple, is that it fired right up & literally felt the quicker response when i cracked the throttle.I was working on my chaincase oil lube change etc. & I wanted to check silent chain rotation. The sled is new to me and about certain , this cleaning will be a great asset for my engine to breathe better. Possibly the muffler is badly gummed from all it's history of no spark by previous owner including myself when i first acquired last year since plenty of raw fuel was absorbed in muffler chamber. However, this is my next task on the menu. I have a hunch they are in dire need of a major cleaning !! & the no spark was a combination of bad ground at recoil bolt, & trigger coil air gap was way off. Sled has 140 psi on all 3 & 24.000 km . Used, not abused. Thanks for the tips !! time to tackle my own now!
Oven cleaner on the rave valves does wonders to clean all that gunk off them. That's how we do it in my neck of the woods. I know it's already done, but for future cleaning try it out lol.
lol, yup that's it, you can tell in the videos when I just get home from a night shift, quieter, make words up, falling asleep on camera etc etc. Thanks!
I’m rebuilding my first sled motor, 05 Summit 800. I’ve been wondering what is rave valves were and what they actually do? Using your videos as a tutorial to rebuild this sled, thanks man! I have an aviation mechanics background as well so that’s cool. If you happen to have a service manual, or anything you want to sell let me know cause it’s getting discontinued.
Can u do a video on how to clean the power valves on a 97 ski doo summit 583. Also thanks a lot of the videos I used this whole series's to replace my pistons on my sled along with the fuel pump keep them coming.
@4:30 I've found that using 6 quarters makes it super easy. Stack of 3 directly across from the other 3 gets up it higher. Able to pop that spring on no problemo.
Louis, what camera do you use for your videos? I need a new cam and want something decent for this sort of stuff. I have a go pro for action stuff, but need a new digital camcorder.
carbon build up is what i call it :P and for those asking, when their closed it gives the engine less flow and more grunt for low rpm and when they open theirs more flow for higher revs
And as TheFitz10 suggested, do not scratch these valves, you give carbon a place to grab a hold of.... Also Clean wear these Valves Reside, Cylinder port... Remember Burning two stroke oil, leaves varnish everywhere...
I have an 03 ski do rev 800 that I got for free . Wasn't running and got it running and it rips but does not want to idle . Once it's nice and warm it idles for a while but anything under it slowly dies and is a pain to start again . Any ideas on what I could do to fix it would be greatly appreciated
Power Valves... Varies the Exhaust port CC,, or size... with this Valve. Point... to have a small port opening at low rpm, then the port to open when there is Exhaust pressure at higher Rpm. to make power.. Flow.....
The way he cleans gaskets makes me cringe, using scrapers and wire brushes..ugh fastest way to scratch aluminum surfaces causing issues with sealing. Vs using a Roloc disc pad or spray gasket remover.
Geez man thanks a lot. Because of people like you , owners learning to be more handy on their own ! Thanks

Cleaned mine today and went for rip ! Unbelievable improvement :) thanks
000 steel wool works great for removing that carbon buildup. And it wont scratch the coating give it a try sometime

I've got a 670 in my ran S12 aircraft and my aft rave valve is leaking a little. Going to pull it off and see what's up. Good video
i couldn't tell, but with
love the vids and keep it up!

You can also use gasket remover it comes in a spray can. You soak them down and it bubbles up you can just wipe them off. Give it a try.

makes sense - i like that idea!

the side of the rave valves doesnt matter does it? i have mine apart and noticed that each valve has a 1 or a 2 on it (next to where it says "TOP"

Are you using Sonic screwdrivers?:o
Tell em I'm having too much fun on youtube!
You the Man Louis : )
I took the spring off and the suction releases and stays out is that bad. How do i fix.
i have to ask what was that nylon tape looking stuff u pulled off from inside the diaphragm?
it was a sealant of some sort.
I'm new to sledding . do I need to have that sealant in the rave valves or is it OK to run without ? Thanx for the quick response also
farmdogg69
I've been running mine for years without any sort of sealant on there. It seems to work fine.
Great vid! :)
i liked the vid
