    This is one of the best comprehensive cooking to freezing to reheating videos on here. People always show meal prep but don't talk about whether the ingredients are appropriate for freezing and what the textures are like after thawing/reheating.
    That's something that always bothered me about reheating, there are just some ingredients that don't work.
    Thank you so much!

    I'm a big fan of Japanese bento/cooking videos and this is probably the singular, most useful one I've ever come across for a "no-time to cook every day, but still wants to have home cooked once in a while" single, working person... Thanks for being also 1) being so minimal in your cooking equipment as the amount of disposable bags and cute separators used by others honestly makes my heart hurt, 2) also practical with your equipment and methods so we don't have to wash the whole kitchen..., 3) so considerate to show and taste test for us what works for freezing and what doesn't ❤ definitely subscribing from today!

    Question: What is something that could work instead of the Burdock root? Sadly, I cant find it by me.

      About the burdock root, you can use only carrot not adding burdock. Or I think you can use potatoes instead of burdock.

    Very nice, Sayaka! What a good idea to make frozen bento boxes. I especially like the hambaga, you cook it so well, very Japanese compared to just fried raw meat. Interesting with the burdock, it is rarely eaten in Europe anymore. My favourite root in Japan is mountain potato, yamaimo, especially in a creamy gratin with bonito/tuna flakes on top. Kabocha is a bit sweet for my taste and I have never seen it in Romania although it should grow well. But we get lots of other squash, pumpkins etc. I love to add pieces of lightly boiled pumpkin in a salad with mayo and maybe shrimps, had and did it many times in Japan. Arigato again!

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  9 месяцев назад +1

      Arigato! Thank you so much!
      I'm so glad to hear your compliments. Yea, this hamburger steak is really Japanese style. It's so popular for bento box.
      Oh, you like yamaimo! I like to cook it. Recently, I found that frying yamaimo just like french fries are so good 😁
      Kabocha and gobo are my favorite vegetables. I love kabocha salad, so your salad sounds really yummy 😆 I'd love to try a Romanian pumpkin sometime!

    I love freezer bento! Are these okay if you can’t heat them before serving? I don’t have access to a microwave during my classes at my college, so thaw to eat bento would be great if you have recipes 😊

    • @halcyoneve
      @halcyoneve 9 месяцев назад +4

      Generally, rice is hard if it's just thawed instead of heated from frozen. If you wanted to just thaw, you might be better off looking for a substitute for the rice or skipping it all together.

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  9 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you for watching my video!
      If you carry it without the ice pack and leave it at room temperature and eat it after the ingredients in the lunch box have thawed naturally, there should be no problem, I think.
      I am not certain how many hours it will take to thaw...

    • @shehuehue
      @shehuehue 9 месяцев назад +2

      As @@halcyonevesaid, rice is kinda hard (and somewhat dry?) after thawing. I've done some try-outs and this is what I found out to work best for rice:
      Because I cook once a week and freeze them all, I take out the lunch box from freezer the night before I want to bring it, and move it to the fridge. Then in the morning, pour bit of water to the rice before heating in the microwave for 5 minutes at the second lowest heat setting (sorry there is no energy/temperature info on my microwave, and it belongs to the place I rent so I have no idea where the guidebook is 😂). This way the rice is soft and just like our usual lunchboxes, can be eaten just fine during the day without heating it again 😊
      Note: I use Thai jasmine rice, so you might need to adjust the amount of water or heating time if you use different rice type.

      @@JapaneseCookingChannel Is there a difference between a woman, a child and a man in terms of bento box capacity? I guess women and children eat less (depending on their level of activity). Thank you!

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  8 месяцев назад +1

      Perhaps 380 ml is a little too small for men or women who want to eat a lot. (Though it is the perfect size for those on a diet.)
      Some people who want to eat a lot use a 600 ml lunch box. Please choose according to the amount you want to eat!

    For the omu-rice bento, can you use any sausage or did you use a specific kind?

    If I want to eat my food cold or don't have a microwave available or want to give my kids (the stuff without alcohol of course) to school or day care, is the reheating necessary? Can I just thaw it in the fridge over night?

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching my video!
      I think it would be fine to leave it in the fridge overnight before eating. (I didn't try it that way this time, so I'm not certain.) However, I think it is by far better to eat it after warming it up.

    Are you waiting until it is cold and than freeze, or are you putzing warm in the freezer? And how long can the bento being in the freezer? I would like do it for my children

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  3 месяца назад +1

      Please let it cool throughly before putting it in the freezer.
      I think it can be stored for about 2 weeks. I think it tastes better if you eat it early.
      Hope your children will enjoy the dishes!

    This might be a stupid question but how long do u microwave them

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel
      @JapaneseCookingChannel  6 месяцев назад

      If I warmed it up after leaving it out of the freezer for a while, I warmed it up for 3-4 minutes; if I warmed it up right out of the freezer, I warmed it up for 5-6 minutes. This time may need to be changed as it depends on the size of the bento box.
      It is also explained at the end of the video, so please check it out 😊

    I would like to mention that the tamagoyaki pan you use is too small, at 5 inches, for most U.S. stovetop burners. I ordered one that size a few months ago and all my burners were larger than that pan, in fact that pan was smaller than my hand. I do have a tamagoyaki pan that is 7 inches and fits my burners. There in nothing wrong with Sayaka's recommendations, just in the U.S. you might want to take some measurements first.

      Oh! Thanks for telling. That is very important thing. I haven't thought about the size of burners... 😂

    All good and all are my taste!
    *Thank you for providing and teaching.*
    6 are too many thus it may be high level.
    3 or 4 can be better because as person who wants to really make them same, To put 6 ways' methods into brain, can be kind of hard. In my opinion, please slowly teach one by one for a long time! 🙂(they are in more severe trouble because thanks to this duration i studied so hard in till cooking.)
    When my child goes to teenage school
    If i make one of those at night in advance It is going to be convenient. It can be eaten the next busy morning attending school of breakfast. I love Japanese way of bento boxes. All need is that just reheating at microwave.
    Now that i spend hungry time, hope there is 💛Tonkatsu and Grilled salmon Bento box❤️ beside me. Got that root vegetable is calld "kimpira(?)" in JP. Fun name!😂 I was grown eating it as soysauced side dish called 우엉[woo.yeong] in Korean.
    Thanks for always helping my real real making and helping realized my dreamy cooking to turn out as real presentation.
