- Here is Footage of Hanley Forest park in the 1960s With pits and factories closed, polluted sites spoilt Staffordshire until restorative action was taken and forest park was born.
Was Hanley deep pit was once the deepest pit in the whole of the country - sunk to a depth of 880 yards. During the 1930s, it employed 1,552 men and boys underground and 395 on the bank. It closed in 1962. The colliery is now Hanley Forest Park.
Hanley Forest park in 2021 is a lot different than 1960s now and has a skatepark and place to get some food at the front and a children's playing park in the summer the fair also comes.

Forest park lake?
I am sure that video footage is from the 1970s!
reclamation started 1968 thru to mid 70s
From 1m 25 sec images are of Westport Lake @@davexvs
@@StevenBarrow-g5u you are correct
do not know why they joined the two together
I was at the opening of Westport lake
by the then prime minister Edward Heath
we took half a dozen dinghies from Stanley Head outdoor activities centre
the two spoil heaps in the forest park were always know as the giants arse as teens in the late 60s
I grew up at Longport and spent many happy hours playing around Wesser before and after its 1973 facelift.@@davexvs
