I have an original Baretta that I bought when I was a teen. If memory serves, that guitar ran me just under $800, a lot of money for a teenager in 1984. I love it still. One thing that really stands out about it is the sustain and the weight, it is twice as heavy as my strat. It's also quite loud when played acoustically compared to most electric guitars, which is nice for noodling. It also makes a mean blues guitar when called upon, very soulful and authoritative (if you are).

Slightly. Usually the closer to the neck, the more "bassy" and warm and towards the bridge it's more articulate bright and middy. That said, it's still a bridge pickup, so it's only a slight difference.
Finally got my gorgeous RUBY RED Baretta Special! Can't believe how awesome it's built for the price! Wish the frets were fatter, however, but I love it!
I traded my friend my wolfgang standard for his pink baretta vintage. He wasn't thrilled with how it sounded and honestly I wasn't either. It sounded like the output just wasn't there and I'm still not sure why, very flat and lifeless. I have many guitars with a JB in them and it's one of my absolute favorite pickups. I don't know if the JB in it was wired incorrectly but I snipped out the treble bleed cap, it helped. But not that much. So I changed out the pot for a dunlop 500k super pot, it didn't change much. So I swapped out the JB with a seymour duncan perpetual burn and the guitar came alive. It's probably my favorite guitar to play now. I suspect there is something wrong with the jb I pulled out of it because I have four other guitars with a jb in the bridge and they all sound fantastic.
