The bad thing about vintage Kramers is, if they are mint, the people want a fortune and if they are beat to hell, the people still want a fortune...it’s crazy!!!
Seems that way. Can I get any bucks for my Matsumoku-built Kramer Focus 3000? I always thought these guitars were total hogs (clunky maple bodies) but it seems people buy anything these days… and the earliest fine tuner OFRs are really great.
I’m a huge VH fan and have always had an affinity for Kramer. I’ve had a few. I currently have an all original 1983 Focus that is just fantastic! Pacer body, original Floyd. It’s just the stuff!
Yeh I got an 86 with the smaller headstock, and a Pacer series 85 my best guitars.just bought a new neck ,Got the Maple to try out. Most kramers had rosewood, but I could not find one with maple back then.
I played Kramers for years on the Sunset Strip in the 80s, mostly Barettas. They averaged between $600-$700 back then, so the price is not too far out of reach in today's money. But I only bought one brand-new and got the other three used around $300-$400. Sometimes I customized them, sometimes I left them as-is since they were ready to rock. That's the thing about Kramer that gave them an edge in those days. They had everything you needed and nothing you didn't to get the job done.

I own 5 Baretta's, 4 are Specials modified at various levels, 1 is the bumblebee yellow brother of your gray Baretta. Love these guitars, the necks are perfect 👌 Best shredder guitars!
A beautiful guitar. I've always been a VH fan. and Edward was among the greats. I don't have this guitar per'se, but i do a a Left Handed EVH Stripe Series Stratocaster by Fender, and I really love it. However, getting tones out of it is both fun, and challenging. i favore warmer tones, and taking Eddy's advice from the "Thank you" section of the manual, I haven't cleaned the neck (I'm letting it get mucky and dirty/dark), and letting the strings get older to produce a warmer tone. It's a fun guitar to play, and glad to see Kramer still making this guitar.
Outstanding review, Jamie! I've had this guitar in mind for some time now, and have decided to pull the trigger and purchase it. Thanks for everything. Love your channel. Awesome playing!!!
Came across this video purely by chance and was amazed to see the white Kramer. It took me right back to '84, when we shopped for an amplifier in a music store in Southwest Germany. As I was trying things out, one of the guys there handed me a white Kramer guitar, almost identical to yours, which he said had been played by EVH himself there!!! It was of course a wonderful connection; I'd become a huge EVH fan at the time. The neck was relatively rough - unglazed - and the action relatively high; it had the same great rock tone. Unless I misremember, Kramer produced their own tremolos in those days. But I can't remember if it was theirs or a Floyd Rose on that guitar. Probably the latter; I think it was painted black, to contrast with the white paint. In any case, it was the first time I had played a guitar with a locking trem, which could be released so much that the strings just hung off the neck. Your playing is great, by the way!
I learnt to play on a Focus by Kramer K1000. The first line of Focus guitars. Wish I still had as unbelievably rare now. Same body as this and one pup. Had a volume and tone control and no fine tuners on the FR. That had a coil tap.
On the issue of pickups, I prefer the Tone Zone to a JB, and if I had a Kramer today that's what I'd pop in it, especially if the Kramer has a maple fretboard which can be very bright.
Wayne Charvel's custom made VH '79 Bumble Bee: "Am I a joke to you? I was the guitar that started it all. The Frankenstrat was a sloppy test bed. I was a smooth brand new strat bodied guitar that featured no pick guard, a single pickup and volume knob. Look at me and then look at the Kramer 5150 and you'll see the true bloodline."
That is what happened to my Kramer the Estring broke a strand on the coil.Made a weird sound I still have it but took it out because it was a little buzzy, but it had a real treble sizzle to it.That is from us always lifting the pickup up so close to strings.
Had to watch that beat it solo three times cause it was just that good 🤟 not sure which is more fun to watch the demos or lessons!! Haha. Jamie if that lick library is still available that would be most radical 😎

Yeah satchel used that exact type of guitar so in that case you're right lol but to me tiger stripes will always remind me of George Lynch.
I had the previous model with the oval pickup cavity. I hated the neck, it said "slim c" or something on the website but it was really chunky and wide towards the higher frets. What bothered me the most were the "shoulders" of the neck profile, it made it almost impossible to have any control over the strings on the upper frets. Looked pretty cool though.
I have a charvel pro San dimas in metallic deep purple with a floyd rose.... I want a Kramer but they always out of stock. People say because Gibson is not taking Kramer seriously but I'm sure they sell just as fast as they can make them.
I've had an Assault 220 FR for a year now and it might be my favorite guitar I've ever owned. EMGs, 24 frets, Floyd Rose, Les Paul shape, ebony fretboard all for 450 bucks. It plays like a dream and I've kinda ignored my Loomis Schecter since I bought it. I'd love to pick up another one.
