I rolled my kayak in friendly lake Erie, and Im here to tell the tale. Worked like a champ!I thought it was pricey too until I flipped my yak, then I thought it was a bargain. I highly recommend
I've tried several PFD's and I picked up a NRS Chinook during their recent sale and I love it. I live in FL where it's hot 11 1/2 months out of the year and I feel cooler in the Chinook than I did in my last Onyx. I've never fell out of my kayak while fishing, but I did test the Onyx and Chinook side by side to see how they felt in the water. I think the Chinook performed better because of the snap on the bottom which helped keep it from riding up. The Onyx performed well especially considering the price. To me the design of the Chinook pockets, snap at the bottom and a few other things justifies the premium in price. The main thing is you need to find a PFD that fits your budget and where it all the time when you're in your kayak.
I appreciate the insight! I have never used an Onyx, but have heard good things about them. I read slightly better reviews about the NRS, which is what ultimately led me to choosing that brand. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase.
I just purchased the Onyx MoveVent Dynamic Paddle Vest, and I'll try to tell you how it is. It's my second PFD, the other being another $20 all-purpose Onyx from Ross. I only will use it for kayaking or paddling.
Thanks for getting Wet for us. I have a Refillable cylinder type which works the best for me. I also have a Pelican Catch 110 so I was curious to see your re-entry back in, Graceful or Not .
Re-entry was much more difficult than I had imagined 😂 I ended up swimming everything back to shore. I am sure there is a trick to it and might have to try again just in case I need to back in if it’s cold water or something like that.

Yea its the best. You'll buy two more, dont ask why but you will. 😆
I don’t know if the budget can handle two more 😂

I had read really good things online about the Onyx brand also.
Thanks for this. I am currently in the market and the Chinook is on my short list.
Good luck! Hope you like whatever you decide!
