A few key points to mention. 1: The parallax effect on the Homescreen still exist to this day, but there is a bug since iOS 16 that disables it as soon as you open today view or App Library, rebooting fixes it until you open either one of them again (iOS 18 beta 1 had fixed it but it was broken again after beta 2) 2: As for the Lock Screen there was a brief moment in iOS 16 developer beta 4 where you could enable and disable Perspective zoom and the clock would even move behind objects in the wallpaper, but due to the elements in wallpapers showing their cutoff point if tilted too much it got disabled again in beta 5. Hope this gives some insight
You can fix it without rebooting, just go to “home screen & app library” in the settings, then press toggle “search (show on home screen)” to off/on or vise versa. It will work until you swipe to today’s view or app library again

I am personally a fan of parallax effect... I don't know why did Apple randomly get rid of it... Also this feature wasn't any resource intensive as well...
the parallax effect still exist on ios18 but it depends on what wallpaper you are using and without blurring the wallpaper too. i have it on my iphone 12 ios 18.0.1

My theory about this is because of the multiple phone effects they introduced, including and most probable to be the cause of, the depth effect on lockscreen. The one feature that shows the clock behind a layer of the photo. Addendum: You can still use the old animated flare background with the parallax effect on lockscreen, but for unknown reasons it's static on the homescreen. Weird...
I think it might have more to do with the depth effect on lock screen, where the photo subject can come in front of the time, but it’s still not impossible to implement
If you do a screen recording, you’ll find that notification badges still have the parallax effect! Weird right? And they are actually moving, if you have a badge on app like reminders, it’s easy to notice on that one
They should bring it back. It's always the little touches that apple puts in their stuff that I love. It's like putting the finishing touches on a piece of art, Which to be honest. Apple's designs are kinda like art from how good they are. I don't miss it really, But It's just the little things apple puts in there that you may or may not notice that make it perfect.

Oh I remember that long time ago, when iOS 7 came out, I was using an android phone and I even installed some third party program to enable paralax background on my android, it was kind of cool. Then time passed and I forgot that it was even a thing just until I saw this video and suddenly remembered it, lol
I honestly forgot this feature existed and haven’t even noticed it missing. It didn’t do much anyway. It’s in the same vein as 3D Touch for most people I assume. It was cool but for most people it didn’t really matter.
My only argument against the AOD is that the sensors are still active anyways for raise to wake and pocket detection, so that kind of rules out that. The screen being dim also turns the refresh rate down to 1hz to preserve battery life and even then, it wouldn't be hard to disable animations lol. I actually have zero idea why they got rid of it other than that it's either "not used enough" or that it's an "outdated style element that doesn't hold up anymore."
Parallax was removed after complaints regarding iOS 7. It was nauseating for many, including the swooping animations when you opened an app or app folder on ios 7.
I keep this turned off to save battery life, but it's a nice feature to have nonetheless and deserves to come back. It did make a small minority of users sick though, which may have contributed to its removal.
I think they might have not removed it from iPadOS 18. Just tried with mine and saw the parallax effect working. It’s interesting that they chose not to disable it on iPadOS too.
I actually didn’t even know it was gone. I never really cared for it (no clue why tbh, just looked weird with the wallpaper) and I just zoned it out. I guess it just slipped by me when it disappeared. Very interesting choice to actually get rid of it tho.
It hasn't been gotten rid of completely. I got an iPhone 14 with iOS 18 and it's still there. The difference is that's it's very subtle. I wish it didn't exist altogether, honestly.
Rip 3D Touch. 6s was probably by favorite phone. Who doesn’t like right click in their phone? iOS 13 made my iPhone X slower by not only being buggy as hell, by replacing 3D Touch with Haptic Touch. I miss peek and pop at its best.
Doesn't parallax effect still kinda work? If you restart your phone, go straight to the homescreen without swiping to the widget panel or app library and move your phone it should still work. But as soon as you open the widget panel or the app library it stops working. So it's really just bugged and basically nobody noticed/cared

To be honest, in my opinion, I think they get rid of it because of motion sickness. Again, purelly opinion. A lot of people has motion sickness. I miss Parallax.

apple put shit on parallax just from the moment when it has appeared, it was sometimes glitchy and was being paused if you open notification centre for example on ios 9, apple itself doesnt give a deal for parallax effects - it is visible though all the ios evolution from 7 to 15
Apple died with steve jobs, the only reason they exist is because steve’s and johny ive decisions area still there, just fading away slowly, but more quicker recently. People don’t love apple, people are frustrated by apple and phona usage in general, society is degrading bc of it. And eventually these things will kill peoples willingness to love apple.

The little search button above the dock still does the parallax effect, but nothing else does. I’ve submitted a few bug reports about it

The apps still do it it’s just very hard to notice unless you’re background has a lot of lines in it

I think it could also be because HS wallpapers are blurred by default now, so parallax would look much less cool with a big blur moving around
If you pay attention there is the same kind of thing on Windows when you move around the laptop the Lock Screen wallpaper move a bit.
