The movie doesn't go into it but the show and books reveal that Ramona has a TERRIBLE habit of just dumping people without warning or explanation. She literally just says "bye" and completely disappears once the other starts getting deep feelings for her.
As another comment pointed out, Ramona and Scott are very similar to each other. Both of them dated for self-validation, but their repressed self-hatred makes them unable to make any relationship deeper or healthy.
I did that for my entire teens and 20's. I always had to have a relationship and always ghosted them once they fell for me. I didn't realize it though. Finally settled down, but with an abuser that acted like he couldn't stand me. I was so obsessed and we stayed together for 10 years. After that, when I finally got some self respect, I left. I decided to make myself be single for a year, and ended up keeping it up for 5 years now bc I love it so much. Went back to school, got a career, and I raise my son alone. He gets all my love. I feel for Roxy. Finding out you were only considered “a phase” and meant nothing must crush you. And in the anime adaptation it really shows how hurt she was from Romana leaving her
I can’t comprehend how hard that would be and how much that would hurt. Growing up is realizing that the good guys in this movie aren’t great. Also surprised that they didn’t mention Roxy being Katara!
I totally felt empathy for Roxy myself. Though I identify as Bi myself, it must have been heartbreaking for Roxy to have been treated as a "phase", as if their relationship didn't matter. It seemed like she was more invested in the relationship than Ramona was.
I mean it is what it is. If someone is not attracted to your sex. They are not attracted to your sex. Think of it this way. Would it be any different if a Roxy was a man? Then Ramona found out she was lesbian so she left him?? Would that crash the man? Sure. Would it be more socially acceptable cuz gay is more socially acceptable today? Yes Would it have been more socially acceptable in the early 20s? No Just cuz it's a woman or a man, straight or gay doesn't matter. Break ups suck and the reasoning for them varies. No reason to say Ramona should go against her own feelings to stay with someone she doesn't love. Just so Roxy can be happy.
Someone pointed out that the only Manic Pixie Dreamgirl feature Ramona has, is her haircolour. Scott has nothing going on, has a "quirky" hobby, and drops everything to solve all her problems. By all accounts, Scott is Ramona's Manic Pixie Dreamboy
She doesn't have as many stereotypical characteristics of a MPDG, but she serves the function of driving the plot and motivating the male protagonist's development without getting much character growth of her own (at least in the movie). The manic pixie dream girl isn't a quirky character so much as a plot device.
@@MrEzuma Maybe, but the phrase "just a phase" implies that there was really no value in it. Life is a series of phases, always, and they always mean something to who you are. But it's essentially like being told "I never really loved you, I wasn't capable of loving you, and eveytime I said I did was a lie" Which can CRUSH your trust and self confidence. @@SweeteaDove I disagree that being a phase means it held no value or love. I've had many phases in life (some romantic, some like school or friends). I've also been those phases for lots of people. If your love ends up being a building block for someone else's cathedral, it still hurts that they didn't build it with/for you, obviously. But over time I've come to see that the life they wanted to live is not the one I wanted to. And so, even though the rejection hurts, I'm also glad I got to live in my own cathedral. And if some of my masonry ended up featured in some (but not all!) elements of theirs, then even though I was a phase for them and even though it hurts, it still was not for nothing. @MrNicoJac "a phase" can be fine, I agree there. But Romana said that it was _"just_ a phase", and she says it very defensively too, as if having a female ex is something to be embarrassed of. I'd be mad about that too
I love Knives SO much. Even though she had no reason to like Ramona after being cheated on (not that Ramona knew, but still) when she saw Gideon knock Ramona down those stairs, Knives kicked SO much ass. We love a girls girl, and thats one of many reasons why Knives is too good for Scott.
Knives is the absolute best character in the movie, even Wallace is a honorary second place! She has a beautiful personality and is very mature, despite being a literal teen. Love her so much. That being said, she does have her own flaws, like everyone else here, and this is awesome too. When she started dating Young Neil to get back on Scott? Not exactly the right thing to do, but a very teenager thing to do. And she really did say some nasty things to Ramona while still being sure that Ramona was the one who made Scott dump her. But again, she stopped being angry at her the moment she saw the situation. A wonderful girl (and a wonderful character), 12/10.
it took me on watch 2 to realize Knives is the best character of the whole movie, im like "i wish i had a girl the cared for me as much as she did to Scott, and Scott dont deserve her at all"
Kieran Culkin really stole the show as Wallace, Scott's roommate. I love when he nonchalantly covers for Scott for Knives, despite Scott diving out the window in plain view, and when he encourages him to pursue love.
He also lets Scott live with him for free, feeds him, supports his music endeavours, puts up with his bullshit and helps support him through rough breakups. Once Envy comes back, he immediately shifts his tone and becomes supportive
@@DJKokaKola I loved the part where he genuinely helps Scott when he's down. Thought they were going for the uncaring, sassy gay friend with Wallace, but he's genuinely Scott's closest friend.
In the comics gideon is way more evil. He weaponizes negative emotions, and kidnaps all of his ex girlfriends and puts them in cryo sleep in wedding dresses.
Actually worse, he created a virus that makes you self absorbed and retroactively changes your memories so nothing bad you ever did was your fault And Ivy is a lot better yeah, Todd cheats on her and she only reconciles with Scott way latter when he's not a complete ass anymore

@@jdhd2837Canadian here: that's just kind of... blatantly not true. I once wrote a paper about how the Scott Pilgrim comic series presented a gendered subversion of Campbell’s Hero’s Journey because of Knives Chao. She is the one who goes through the journey with the indie rock scene being her “other world”, but the story focuses on the monsters. It’s in a way, a lesson about how real human flaws aren’t diagnosable through narrative structures, but we can use stories to contextualize our growth and actions.
An old friend of mine pointed out how Ramona isn't a nice person either because she just dumps guy after guy and takes no accountability for her behaviour.
That's the main reason that I love Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It shows Ramona actually taking accountability for how much she hurt her exes and mending her relationships to them.
Yeah I agree but that doesn't make her a horrible person just flawed like everyone else. I'm always confused about people saying she falls in to the Manic Pixie Dream Girl category when she barely fits that archetype. You know who does fit better in to that archetype? Scott.
@@askmeagain43Well, the very first thing she mentioned was about skincolour. There is an argument that can be .ade of her judging people for their skincolour so casually.
I'm so glad they didn't go with the alternate ending. Knives is a sweet kid who needs the freedom to grow up. While Scott sucks, Ramona is equally bad as both use their relationships to hide from their problems and only through each other can they push to be better people.
I appreciate that Ramona is also not a perfect manic dream girl. With the exception of maybe Wallace, everyone has a lot of work to do on themselves in this movie
I'm always surprised when I see people saying that this movie "aged poorly" when realizing that Scott himself is an ass who's as flawed as the other exes when that was the point of the entire movie that can be recognized immediately.
It shows personal growth in the audience. The first time they watched it, they were less emotionally mature and were quick to defend a character they related to. As the audience got older and realised the character flaws they had grown beyond, they had much less reason to forgive Scott for his immaturity.
its true for me, the more i watch, the more i realize, Scotts a d!ck...So is Ramona (i kinda thought though from the beginning, Scott just had lust). I still love the crap out of this movie, also, the more i watch the more i love and feel bad for Knives, she was the only good thing the whole time imo
I have to say, I used to hate Scott. I really did. But when the film WHENT on and he actually saw that he was pretty much an A-hole and really gained the power of self respect. Not love, but respect for himself to finally beat Gideon, apologize to Kim, and own up to his actions. 10/10
The books and the sequel series do a much better job humanizing him. I still adore this movie, but the comics do a much better job showing Scott's growth over the course of their year together.
@@CinemaTherapyShowQuestion for you guys.Could you do a video about house of dragon And it would be your reaction to the siri's so we can get a better understanding of very character there
When I was young I didn't like the entire movie, because Scott was the main character and he sucked so much. But years later I rewatched it to hear the awesome music and got a much better understanding of Scott and the other characters and their growth in the movie. Now I love it
I don't see how Lucas Lee wasn't the least evil. Sure, Matthew was underdeveloped, and Roxie was just angry, but Lucas is the only one who went out of his way to be nice. Even in the comics and anine, he's just a dude who's trying to be successful. He doesn't even really seem all that into Ramona at this point
Even if we didn’t get enough time with the Katayanagi Twins, can we all be in agreement that the band battle is probably the coolest fight in the movie?
The actors didn't speak English, so their scenes were cut down. Plus, more scenes could've slowed down the story, considering Gideon first appears in the same scene.
I know the hosts don't talk about it here, but the Twins fight scene is not only cool, it really brings out how evil Scott can become if he doesn't improve upon himself: The Soundwave yeti has green eyes ( green with envy), he sees Gideon and pines for Ramona more, there's also a sick reference to Flash Gordon as well. It's a great scene and Threshold is a great song. Edit: Scott's shirt I believe says 4.5 on it, meaning he could become evil ex #8 with enough time.
I would rate Roxie Richter as the "least evil" evil ex. From what I remember, she at least had something of a legitimate grievance: she was heartbroken by basically being tokenized by Ramona "having a phase" (or however they couch it in the movie). Every other ex is just being a little punk over what is ancient history. (edit: Okay, I could have just waited a few minutes for them to get to it. :D )
I agree so much with this. Roxy doesn't count as an ex - or really a person - in this movie, just a punchline, which you can see from Scott's only reaction being getting horny and verifying: "You had a sexy face?" And then, Ramona has to fight her, because again; Roxy doesn't count as a real ex in this movie, or a real person, so this is not Scott's battle, it's hers. I hate this scene and this movie so much for this biphobia and I'm honestly disappointed that it didn't get called out in the video.
@@lttrbox she is a real character, Scott can't fight her because he doesn't want to fight a girl. It's more mysoginistic than biphobic. It's quite shitty by today's standards and by no means am I defending that scene, but it doesn't detract from my love of the film. Also want to point out that Roxy has more screen time than Matthew Patel who's just pirate looking song n dance guy, or the Katayanagi twins who are just the Japanese DJ twins. Those two guys aren't even characters. She has a real motive for wanting to join the league as she was straight up used by Ramona to experiment with her sexuality. If anything Ramona is the evil ex for Roxy and won't even admit what she did was wrong.
@@MistaZULE To be fair, being shitty and mysoginistic is in line with Scotts character. So the scene is good, but only when you realize that Scott is bad.
I feel like the film brings up an interesting logical fallacy. One popular phrase people use about video games is, ”if I run into enemies, I’m going in the right direction.” While that works in a game, opposition doesn’t always mean it is the right direction. While it is good to face opposition, there are times that facing it would do more harm for yourself than anything else.
I think the twins would the least bad of the evil exes since there goal is to get back against Ramona for cheating on them with each other and trying to manipulate them against each other
@@StubbyandShifu I mean, sure. But given that the entire movie is about Scott realizing that he is just a piece of shit, and then people shit on the movie and people who like it for being mysoginistic and horrible people, I don't think that is the problem
From my experience, most of the people I know that are exactly like Scott tune off the ending cause they hate it (I wonder why), and only give attention to the parts where Scott is still disillusioned that he is a great guy…
@@elfteiroh I've seen a lot of people recently make the comment "I thought Scott Pilgrim was awesome when I was younger but now I see that he's a real asshole which makes me wonder if I was a real asshole when I was young".
Honestly I would love to see a follow-up video tackling the Anime, as it actively tackles the pain Ramona caused by leaving the seven, and how she works to set things right
He's so extra and savours his role so much that it shines through the movie. Also... HE IS SPOT?! That's two amazing performances and I don't remember seeing (or hearing) him anywhere else. Underrated af.
The thing that sets Scott apart from Rimona’s Ex’s, is that after he got over the relationship, he confronts what makes him an immature guy. He eventually grows from the relationship ending, rather than the Ex’s dwelling on the relationship and never growing. (At least in the original comic, the movie doesn’t go through that.) Also, canonically, the comic, movie, and series are all canon, just in different timelines.
I don't think Ramona laughed at one of Scott's dumb jokes while Knives couldn't stop trying to please him. When I was younger, I thought Knives was in the way but now I root for her to leave Scott and get with someone who appreciates her. Ramona was right, he was an evil ex waiting to happen. This movies really grows with you.
I think the most profound moment in this whole video is when Alan admits he used to be an evil ex. It honestly made me think about the time I was an evil ex too.
First time I watched it and was a teenager, I thought Ramona is a jerk and Scott is a rly nice guy. Then I watched it again, as a young adult, and realized Scott is a jerk, Ramona is such a cool girl and deserves better. Then I watched it as a grown adult that finally could understand the mess that makes us human and realized they are both jerks. And they deserve each other and, as long as they are trying to get a better version of themselves, it’s ok
One of the best things about the anime ( Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix) is how it not only shows how Ramona isn't a good person (her main issue is running away from her problems which is what causes her to dump all those people) but it shows that without Scott, every single character in the story has a marked improvement in their lives.
I am honestly so surprised to see Scott Pilgrim getting attention! I LOVE IT. Love the graphic novels, love the movie, love that they got the actors from the movie to reprise their roles for the animation they did just recently so I can get my graphic novel visuals with the voices I'm used to from the movie. So happy to see this
Honestly, it’s hard to find actors who are great in both live action and animation. But Mae is a literal hidden gem. Really deserves to be on the big screen more.
6:51 that’s a real trope called Mallet Space (also Hammerspace)! It’s a reference to cartoons and comics where characters can pull various objects out of pockets that realistically couldn’t fit them.
@@mmartinez9764 In the comics and the sequel, yes. The comics take place over about a year, rather than just a few days like the movie. There's a lot more development and growth when they have the time (in story) and runtime to explore it
I've never read the comics but the anime on Netflix was neat. A lot of fun callback jokes to the movie, basically saying, "nah, that's wrong; that's not what we're doing here". Very cute.
Since youve done this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look at the sequel show, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It shifts the framing from Scott to Ramona, and it does such an incredible job going into the trauma and relationships between her and the exes.
I also like the parallel set up with Knives and Ramona. When Knives challenges Ramona, they show how Scott has now formed his own evil Ex. They show us how this whole process of hurt people hurting people is a cycle. Its only broken when the person who caused all the hurting actually takes accountability for their actions and meaningfully apologizes.
18:00 yes but that’s the important part of his arc. He starts to become better as a person as he sees himself in the exes. As he apologizes to his old exes
God I hope they cover the Netflix series next. It goes so much more deeply into the effect of the league and psyche of the break ups and does a wonderful job fleshing out Ramona as a character
You should definitely do Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It really explores some of the other facets of characters and dives deeper into Scott’s and Ramona’s flaws.
Is really good to see this video specially today. Today I noticed I hurt people. I talked with someone I've hurt last year and noticed my motivations to act how I acted with this person, making me as the protagonist of that story such like Scott did, don't justify what I did. I couldn't even lunch correctly when the feeling of regret and guilt stucked in my throat. And I don't know how I couldn't remember about all Scott Pilgrim's franchise (Manga, Movie and Anime) that I love so much and the meaning behind It. You guys are amazing and I'm grateful you've created this channel and help people see the hidden things in movies. I'm still a bit frustrated and also still accepting that I did something wrong instead of being the protagonist of the story, but this makes me a bit lighter. Thank you guys.

god i would love a follow up episode where you guys talk about the anime. It’s so well done and it more about Ramona’s perspective and is a whoooooole new story. It also has the same rockstar cast and is genuinely hilarious.

I think they deserved eachother in the end because they're equally ick but man.. those songs and the love put into this movie will pull me back EVERYTIME
Same here. Apart from everything you named, the movie is so much my time. It will always have a spot in my heart. Back then, one could put me into the movie, i would fit in.
You guys should definitely do a follow up with Scott Piligrim takes off. It focuses more on the inter personal conflicts and relationship dynamics of all the characters as they heal through some of their issues
I just want to say this on the most recent video, but I've been watching Cinema Therapy for about a year and a half now; and I've always appreciated Jono and Alan's candor when talking about their own personal struggles. Not in a parasocial way, but these are two men who - by societal standards - have everything going for them. Stability, family, a passion project. And yet they are still open about the struggles they do and have had. As someone in Gen Z, it's so easy to feel like we're going to be crushed under the weight of everything. But it eases some of my anxiety when Jono and Alan are able to say, "Sometimes things suck. They sucked for us, but we got through it. We're still getting through it. And it's hard, but it gets easier over time." I just really appreciate the authenticity and transparency that this channel operates with.
Especially in the books, but the biggest theme for me was about handling your past unhealthy ways. Scott just denies it ever happened (although Gideon did interfere with that in the last book, which I didn't like); Ramona runs away from the past; Gideon tries to hold and entrap it. All the exes represent some aspect of the relationship that's difficult (and often some unresolved problem from Ramona's past). And Scott - for all his faults - fights for Ramona and the relationship, and has to improve himself in the process. My absolute favourite moment in the books is when Ramona stands up and fights, not for herself, but for Scott. It's not subtle with the subtext. "Ramona earned the Power of Love [an awesome sword that also appears in the film]. The power of love has healed her wounds".
Great! Now do the follow up series - Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Would love your collective take on that piece. Personally, love the development that they managed with that series.

The Scott Pilgrim universe is just great. The latest animated 'reboot' was really well done with all the actors coming back to voice their characters was amazing, and I was always team Knives.
Once when I was 18 and told my first female best friend I was in love with her. To this day it might be the worst thing I've ever done to someone. I had this horrible realization of how I came to the conclusion that it was appropriate to tell her and spent a month punishing myself in various creative ways. It turned out to be very effective, never said those words again.
I think the ultimate Truth to all interpretation of this story is they are all people who think their "Nice People" but are really selfish in their own way.
Yes! My favourite movie! (and favourite graphic novel series) You guys nailed the message of Scott being a bad person but learning from his mistakes by the way, though I will say that part's done even better in the comics - the whole sequence with the Nega Scott representing all of Scott's past mistakes, Scott running from him for most of the books but then finally giving in & taking accountability is honestly one of the best things I've seen in literature (cannot recommend the graphic novels enough to anyone who loves this movie, they're so good!)
Also gonna mention that the anime from last year does a lot to add more depth and growth to all of the characters, so it's very much worth checking out too!
This is awesome!! It would be interesting to see another ranking of the exes from “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” the animated series that explores Ramona’s role in the breakups with each ex…
This is my favourite movie and I was pumped when I saw this in my notifications. A few minutes in I was ready to ask for an episode about just Scott himself but you guys managed to fit him in too. Great video!

I'm so glad that Bryan Lee O'Malley has grown, too, and I love what we see in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Could we see a reaction to that series, too? I think we'd see a lot a good lessons come of that.
Love this assessment!! Also, wanted to recommend The Fountain as a future analysis, as I’ve personally found the movie very powerful in my own struggles with death and grief, and think more people could benefit from this film, since not many people have seen it due to poor marketing at the time of its release.
A wonderful girl (and a wonderful character), 12/10.
it took me on watch 2 to realize Knives is the best character of the whole movie, im like "i wish i had a girl the cared for me as much as she did to Scott, and Scott dont deserve her at all"
@@Axiniana Wallace is #1 for me, followed by Knives 🖤
Kieran Culkin really stole the show as Wallace, Scott's roommate. I love when he nonchalantly covers for Scott for Knives, despite Scott diving out the window in plain view, and when he encourages him to pursue love.
Yes! He is so freaking funny 😂
He also lets Scott live with him for free, feeds him, supports his music endeavours, puts up with his bullshit and helps support him through rough breakups. Once Envy comes back, he immediately shifts his tone and becomes supportive
He's well-written and his performance is the ultimate chef's kiss He's the best character by more than a whole bunch
@@DJKokaKolaNot to mention in the alternate timeline he CONTINUES to support him a decade into the future. Wallace is the GOAT
Eww
@@silentlyjudgingyou Yeah. Yikes.

Actually worse, he created a virus that makes you self absorbed and retroactively changes your memories so nothing bad you ever did was your fault
And Ivy is a lot better yeah, Todd cheats on her and she only reconciles with Scott way latter when he's not a complete ass anymore
That's eeeviiill
I always love that Scott's opposite is "a really nice guy"
Yeah a major point of the graphic novel that isn’t communicated as directly in the film is that Scott really sucks as a person and a friend.
@@jdhd2837I mean the movie kinda seemed to forget that he’s dating a high school chick that’s not even 18-
@@Rebelheart1985it’s canada they do things differently ig (/s obviously an adult in a romantic relationship with a minor is no bueno regardless of the nationality)
@@Rebelheart1985 I don't think they forgot so much as they didn't confront it as much as they should've. At one point in the comics, Scott is spiraling fuckin' hard, and he kisses Knives, who is now technically 18. The next page contains both of them realizing how terrible this is, with the narrator stating, "This kiss was terrible for everyone involved, including you."
@@jdhd2837Canadian here: that's just kind of... blatantly not true. (Edit: missed the /s, I'm a dumb dumb)
That sounds really interesting, I've never thought of the story like that but it makes a lot of sense! 🙂
An old friend of mine pointed out how Ramona isn't a nice person either because she just dumps guy after guy and takes no accountability for her behaviour.
In real world accountability is more complicated it's a fight on who should be accountable and who's unfairly blamed
It has that Great Expectations feel to it. You think something is great and work hard to attain it, but it's not.
I agree, having the high school girl be the right one all this time for a 23 year old sends the wrong message.
Especially as they now know each other's problems well enough to spot and call out the bullshit.

Yeah, it's acknowledged that he's a terrible person 😂
It shows personal growth in the audience. The first time they watched it, they were less emotionally mature and were quick to defend a character they related to. As the audience got older and realised the character flaws they had grown beyond, they had much less reason to forgive Scott for his immaturity.
Yeah it's always been amazing to me. I picked up that he was a bad guy the whole time...he's dating a 17 year old and cheats on her!
its true for me, the more i watch, the more i realize, Scotts a d!ck...So is Ramona (i kinda thought though from the beginning, Scott just had lust). I still love the crap out of this movie, also, the more i watch the more i love and feel bad for Knives, she was the only good thing the whole time imo
The opposite of Scott, NegaScott, is described as a really nice guy, we cant deny it was in the text all along.
I have to say, I used to hate Scott. I really did. But when the film WHENT on and he actually saw that he was pretty much an A-hole and really gained the power of self respect. Not love, but respect for himself to finally beat Gideon, apologize to Kim, and own up to his actions. 10/10
Jono talks about that too!
The books and the sequel series do a much better job humanizing him. I still adore this movie, but the comics do a much better job showing Scott's growth over the course of their year together.
@@CinemaTherapyShowQuestion for you guys.Could you do a video about house of dragon And it would be your reaction to the siri's so we can get a better understanding of very character there
Yup! #characterdevelopment
Yeah, for me he's probably the least evil. He has no horse in this race, he got an email and he was bored.
Even if we didn’t get enough time with the Katayanagi Twins, can we all be in agreement that the band battle is probably the coolest fight in the movie?
I loved them better in the 'Scott Pilgrim Takes Off' TV series.
The actors didn't speak English, so their scenes were cut down. Plus, more scenes could've slowed down the story, considering Gideon first appears in the same scene.
Scott also wore a shirt with the bass icon from Rock Band. I really appreciate it.
Yes!! We can totally agree on that!
Ngl, I was so distracted by Gandalf in the corner of Jono's shots. Please never edit him out, he IS too cute. I love him
I would rate Roxie Richter as the "least evil" evil ex.
Yup Ramona used her like a toy and it was not okay
@@MistaZULE To be fair, being shitty and mysoginistic is in line with Scotts character. So the scene is good, but only when you realize that Scott is bad.
She also left Scott after their first fight when he says he wasn’t feeling it yet and then she comes back later!
I feel like the film brings up an interesting logical fallacy. One popular phrase people use about video games is, ”if I run into enemies, I’m going in the right direction.” While that works in a game, opposition doesn’t always mean it is the right direction. While it is good to face opposition, there are times that facing it would do more harm for yourself than anything else.
i think that comes down to the view of "opposition" - like whether it is inherently bad, or is viewed as an opportunity for change/learning/growth
I think the twins would the least bad of the evil exes since there goal is to get back against Ramona for cheating on them with each other and trying to manipulate them against each other
Scott Pilrgrim being an all-round piece of shit is the point, and the fact that some people don't get that worries me. Glad you guys saw that.
Maybe it's just not that important to everyone.
@@StubbyandShifu I mean, sure. But given that the entire movie is about Scott realizing that he is just a piece of shit, and then people shit on the movie and people who like it for being mysoginistic and horrible people, I don't think that is the problem
The movie goes to great lengths to show you he's a turd.
From my experience, most of the people I know that are exactly like Scott tune off the ending cause they hate it (I wonder why), and only give attention to the parts where Scott is still disillusioned that he is a great guy…

@@osmanyousif7849 he was so good as the spot
He's so extra and savours his role so much that it shines through the movie. Also... HE IS SPOT?! That's two amazing performances and I don't remember seeing (or hearing) him anywhere else. Underrated af.
He stands out in a stacked cast, so that is really saying something.
The thing that sets Scott apart from Rimona’s Ex’s, is that after he got over the relationship, he confronts what makes him an immature guy. He eventually grows from the relationship ending, rather than the Ex’s dwelling on the relationship and never growing. (At least in the original comic, the movie doesn’t go through that.)
Also, canonically, the comic, movie, and series are all canon, just in different timelines.
This movies really grows with you.
funny how when i first watch i feel she is annoying, then when i rewatch im like "Knives is the best, whats wrong with Scott" lol
I think the most profound moment in this whole video is when Alan admits he used to be an evil ex. It honestly made me think about the time I was an evil ex too.

18:55 a small detail I've always enjoyed about this part is that the sword's bonus for self-respect is higher than when he's fighting for love.
It’s the “follows her around like an eager puppy” with Gandalf the White in the background for me 😂
I thought Lucas Lee was the least evil, he even gives Scott a compliment when speaking with Ramona.
9:49 "And he follows her around like a puppy 🐶" he says while the dog is staring at him in the background😂
So happy to see this
I knew this could only be fun. Mission accomplished.
This reminds me: Mae Whitman is a criminally underrated actor
Honestly, it’s hard to find actors who are great in both live action and animation. But Mae is a literal hidden gem. Really deserves to be on the big screen more.

6:51 that’s a real trope called Mallet Space (also Hammerspace)! It’s a reference to cartoons and comics where characters can pull various objects out of pockets that realistically couldn’t fit them.
I'd recommend checking out the anime, it follows the same characters but tells a unique story, centering Ramona and her emotional growth.
She has emotions?
@@mmartinez9764 In the comics and the sequel, yes. The comics take place over about a year, rather than just a few days like the movie. There's a lot more development and growth when they have the time (in story) and runtime to explore it
I've never read the comics but the anime on Netflix was neat. A lot of fun callback jokes to the movie, basically saying, "nah, that's wrong; that's not what we're doing here". Very cute.
And goes to show that Scott is indeed the most evil ex
Anime is the perfect sequel to the movie. I'd love to see a companion video concentrating on Ramonas growth in the Anime.
Since youve done this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look at the sequel show, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It shifts the framing from Scott to Ramona, and it does such an incredible job going into the trauma and relationships between her and the exes.
I want more movies as stylistic and creative as Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Have you seen Bunraku? It's shot as a live action puppet show.
Check out the director's other works. All of Edgar Wright's movie are stylistic masterpieces. Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead.
I also like the parallel set up with Knives and Ramona. When Knives challenges Ramona, they show how Scott has now formed his own evil Ex. They show us how this whole process of hurt people hurting people is a cycle. Its only broken when the person who caused all the hurting actually takes accountability for their actions and meaningfully apologizes.
in addition to the universal music is the two neck cracks that happens perfectly in time with the music for Lucas

You guys should definitely do a follow up with Scott Piligrim takes off. It focuses more on the inter personal conflicts and relationship dynamics of all the characters as they heal through some of their issues
See Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Scott and Ramona are definitely the most evil exes.
And it's hard, but it gets easier over time."
I just really appreciate the authenticity and transparency that this channel operates with.
“No matter who I’ve been, I can be different moving forward” is a quote I think I’ll think about for the rest of my life. I love this channel
