A fantastic discussion on the 108th Indianapolis 500 with Indy 500 starter Stefan Wilson. We also talk about the very fist Freedom 100 in 2003.

David, you do so much for this sport and you deserve all of the praise you're getting for your coverage of this event. Keep at it, you're doing amazing work. You should be proud of your team and yourself for all that you've accomplished.
When we attended in 2019, every weather report all week and all morning said it would rain all day of the race.
It was blue skies; not a drop of rain.
We'll see.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Actually the forecast was heavy thunderstorms 100 percent chance with tornadoes.
I was there too. Sunny and extremely hot. But it was awesome.
Think about it, 300,000 people attend the race. Compared to the Super Bowl which is 65,000 people. The championship is called Indycar because these teams work all year for the race in May. The cars go 230mph, the fastest race cars in the world. Honestly I think it’s underrated.
It is a minor national racing series.
@@ronbelanger4113 there's also a reason why Super Fornula's Suzuka race doesn't attract 300k people
@@ronbelanger4113My guy, you've been peddling this stuff on this channel for months now. Like, it's literally the only thing you talk about. Maybe find a different hobby?
Very underated. I watched this coverage all day then switched to NASCAR and what a difference.🤔
@@ronbelanger4113then don’t watch?
RIP Gil. Thanks for the tribute David.
Have fun on your remaining days at the speedway.
I was in Fontana above the pits the day he ran the 241.428. Was 10 years
Old so I don’t remember all that much, but I remember seeing Roger with little Al down on the pits during the run.
@@joshherman4214 - what a memory!
David you have been the go to channel for complete Indy 500 news. Your hard work is really showing and much appreciated.
The new museum looks like it will be awesome. Can't wait to see it done next year.
The museum looks freaking amazing!
Great job David!
Curious to get your thoughts on why the TV coverage doesn’t promote the Indycar SERIES more during the telecast.
No showing of the season schedule, highlights of the races leading into the 500, no mention or explanation of the points going into the race or after the race and little promotion of the next race on the calendar.
Seems a waste to not promote the SERIES during your most watched race of the year.
Go back to your interview with Pato a couple of years ago where his friend told him, “You race more times than the Indy 500?”
I'm in town for it. Been going since 1981 and have, been a fan since 1971. My prediction is Colton Herta. Looked real smooth on Carb Day.
David Land is the new Paul Page. Now we just need some Delta Force.

Thanks David for the great report as always.
The weather forecast is giving me 2004 vibes
What a fitting tribute, Gil de Ferran is a legend!
INDY 500 ON CABLE????? WHOEVER MADE THAT DECISION SHOULD BE FIRED
Totally agree but blame it on NBC having the French Open tennis tournament on every Memorial Day. FOX definitely coming in 2025 if it's pushed to cable or worse Peacock exclusive.
@@naparacingfan9275 idk peacock exclusive is way better than cable
@@precesionnoreaster1507 That may be true. Either way FOX likely coming in 2025.
Except to watch Peacock exclusive u need an account, in order to make an account you need a US address, me as a Canadian "guess I'll just stream it a bootleg way" 😂😂@@precesionnoreaster1507
Who the frick cares about Tennis. Bump THAT to cable
I love the music that played in the back of Gil De Ferran’s tribute
Thanks for giving Kyle a shot.
23:00. 1995 Indy 500 it was Scott Goodyear first across the finish line but was docked for passing the pace car on a late re-start. So JV benefited and won. :-)
You are doing a great job, keep it up💪💪
Great preview, David!😃🏁
The Indy 500 is an awesome event, but as long as the media and drivers hold the 500 as the holy grail it is the reason why the Indycar championship is an afterthought.
The Indy 500 is the greatest automobile race in the world it's because we have stale cars we need brand new cars and we need to be on more ovals formula 1 has taken over America automobile racing they have three races here and its international
@@user-qt7ud1cl7b I agree about the stale cars. When you watch the historical clips, you can see how much innovation there used to be. Now every car runs the same 2012 dallara chassis.
Great content as always David. Without your channel we in the United Kingdom get very little Indycar insight. Long may it continue 🏁👍
My dark horse is Rinus VeeKay. Best moment of qualifying was him getting in the fast 12 on the last minute after crashing earlier in the day.
Excellent post, David! Thanks!
I've heard reports that the rain may not come until mid-Afternoon on Sunday. We could be in for a "race to halfway" kind of race, which means the drivers could be aggressive earlier than normal and maybe the teams that don't have race winning speed will try a crazy strategy to get the lead when the rain comes. Hard to believe it's been nearly 20 years since we last had an Indy 500 affected by weather.
Been great coverage all month guys. Great features with the news. Have a great race!
Great coverage again. I am really liking the guests.
Great content so month long! I really enjoyed your coverage.
Thanks for all of your videos
Wish I could have met up with ya David during the Rain delay. Love the Channel been watching since 2020. Id say you helped re-spark my interest in Indycar after about 10 yrs of being a very casual fan. barely any internet connection for first 5 hrs at the track hard to find out any info without the radio.
Good job David & Kyle ! Great cover of the event every year. Finger crossed for the weather tomorrow…
Great video David !
Great show David my first indy 500 was1965 have been there somewhere between 25 and 30 times and at least 10 pile days old now so it is hard for me to move in the crowd but my thoughts are there for sure thanks for your efforts
Would they bump the Superbowl or the Kentucky Derby to cable? NO.
Absolute banger after banger videos DL
If they have done some laps already, maybe talk about that and if possible some extended interviews with people from the paddock would be nice. I don't know if you've talked to Zak Brown but I in any case I'd love to hear him on Indycar and what he believes they should do to improve the series and have more eyes on it.
Good report
I never knew about what happened in the 1988 indy 500 now that's awesome if this year's Indy 500 is anything like how 1988 was i think the Penske boys are going to be up front the entire day tomorrow Kyle Larson gets a top 5.😊
I usually do not watch the Indy 500 commercials, but I will with Larson in the race.
Great video David, no rain please! By the way check your description on this one it is matching yesterday so i figure that is a typo.
If it rains Sunday you could livestream from the mud pit - I mean the snake pit
I had the pleasure of work8ng with Scotty Mac. He’s the real deal he’s smart he’s quick. I’m blown away how he’s taken to these cars. He’s got my vote for the win
Man that 2001-2011 era was peak chassis for Indy. Need to ditch the DW12 and go back to that
The last time the PC-17 ran at Indy was the Mark Dismore crash in last day practice 4 years later. He was fast enough but hit the turn 4 wall.
Killer hat!!
I remember when Gil didn’t make the race heading the effort from McLaren. It hurt him.
Gil and Fernando vid: ruclips.net/video/KnK-Y6qzmA8/видео.htmlsi=VOcOfAY6dArb0l5r
There's a 2-time winner in Row 4. Everyone keeps saying not to sleep on Helio, but I think the one getting slept on this year is Takuma Sato. If he runs a clean race, he'll at least be in the front running mix at the end
Thanks for all the great coverage this month. In your opinion, did the troubles that Ferrucci had during Carb Day sink his chances to win? I saw that he turned some faster laps late in the session.
I like Ferrucci.
I hope it doesn’t delay after I start my trip to Indy (it is a 2:11 drive)
The '88 500 is one of my favorites to watch on YT (there's a great raw satellite feed version and we get to listen in to the off-air banter of the greatest Indy Car broadcast team of all time--Paul Page, Sam Posey, and Bobby Unser, withJack Arute and Gary Gerold in the pits. Page was the best, and the rest of the team was smart, insightful, and actually knew their job was to find out and report things their audience wanted to know, as opposed to the IndyCar PR wing/hypemasters and tire salespeople that the NBC team is today.) You have to feel for Sullivan...he totally dominated the race until around lap 130 when the jerry-rigged duct-taped right front wing finally gave up in dirty air and he pushed right into the wall. Al Sr's Penske also had a broken wing adjuster, Mears' was the only Penske that didn't. Mears' initial handling issue was a rear stagger issue, which was fixed by the early stop and wheel change you mention. He got his lap back when Sully's car got a bit of push from the wing issue and then an extremely lucky yellow caused by a soda can on the track (knowing how competitive Roger was running Rick's car and how competitive the intra-team rivalry was it's crossed my mind he had a ringer in the stands toss the can!) The gorgeous PC-17's in Sullivan's gold Miller and Mears and Al Sr's Pennzoil Yellow Submarine liveries with those chrome flush wheels are among--if not the--best looking cars in Indy Car history. Party like it's 1988!
Sullivan crashed on Lap 101
Will the race still be on Peacock if it is bumped to Monday?
Talk about shots fired with the Comic Book before video game. Jokes aside thanks for all the buildup and let’s get this in tomorrow.
Nice pre-race video! LFG - O’Ward is my pick. He’s due
Do a rain Delayed Video and what racing came before the rain
Thought that was Eric Stepp at first 😂😂
Wow I thought you were going to say it would be exclusively on peacock on Monday. NBC has the French open on Monday. Was 1995 the year that Scott Goodyear got a penalty late in the race but he refused to serve it. He did cross the line first but due to a legitimate penalty Jasques was the winner? The museum looks fabulous
My bucket list includes the Indy 500
I’m picking Herta. Audibled from Rossi after I saw his strength on Carb Day. Best day of the year tom cannot wait
Need an explanation on how a team could run two different chassis lol
OMG...I thought it was Eric Estepp at first 🤣
If the race is Monday will TK drive ?!?!
So where's the David Land fan meet up when we're delayed for rain?
Let's go Little Herta!
NO RAIN
Question ...Could the Indianapolis 500 run on Monday or Tuesday due to bad weather.
🎉🎉
Has there been any announcement regarding lifting the local Indy blackout of the broadcast?
Nope blackout in place you can watch Tennessee Tuxedo or demolition derby from the fairgrounds
Wait...if I have Peacock I won't be able to watch it if it's pushed to Monday?!
Goodyear passed the pace car.
I thought you had brought Eric Estepp at 6:30
Is there still such a thing as listening to the race on the radio, or has that gone the way of the roadster?
Who will finish higher. Sting Ray Rob or NASCAR Ricky Stenhouse Jr????
Hoped to maybe run into u today, instead ran into, rather he almost ran into me, Captain Penske 😂😅
It really stinks that NBC won't cover the race if it's on Monday. I don't know anyone that has USA NETWORK
Verizon customers do at least
1995 Scott Goodyear crossed the line first but was penalized for passing the pace car so Jacques Villeneuve was the winner.
I just have a few words to say:
I don't begrudge Penske and everything he and his teams have done for the sport of not just IndyCar but so many other forms of Motorsports. Just for once I'd like to see Cinderella wear the Glass Slipper tomorrow at Indy and shock the living daylights out of not just those in attendance but those who will listen and watch around the world!
Video begins at 22:00 mark.😂
We are sleeping on chip ganassi racing. I’m calling it for Palou.
MON-DY-COLA 1261.7 !!!!!!!
23:10 I guess you are meaning Scott Goodyear who crossed the line first in 1995 but didn't get his last 5 laps scored due to not serving a black flag penalty
Rossi for the win. (As much as I want Herta!)
Coke 600 watch along if the 500 gets rained out
I want Power to snag the win, but Foyt' driver keeps nagging at me.
CH, SM or EC WIN the race.
Alexander Rossi will win this motor race
Great if it rains I can’t watch it cause it’s on USA. Jesus Christ
“Hero of last year”get all the fuck out of here with that lol.
It's just baaaaddddd! Just to see how far Roger Penske (and others) has destroyed the' legend' of the track. Pathetic!
indy shouldny allow euros ,if fi wont allow andretti
USA network. That stinks.
Indy GP is more entertaining than the Indy 500. Oval racing is boring
Kyle sewed up not rookie mistakes disappointed waste of time for Hendrick
Not on peacock ???
