  • The 80s was not a good time for video game companies, but that did not stop Nintendo from one of the most successful console launches ever, the Nintendo Entertainment System! In this video I'll take you inside Nintendo's 1985 American console launch. One that many thought would fail because of the state of the industry at the time.

At this point, the biggest selling points for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) were the Zapper gun and the games Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, and Wild Gunman. Some retailers also liked the Robot Operating Buddy (R.O.B.) and some of the early arcade translations, like 10-yard Fight, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3, Popeye, Baseball, Excitebike, Golf, Ice Climber, Kung Fu, Tennis, and Wrecking Crew. When Nintendo went to New York, Super Mario Bros., which would become the linchpin during the national launch of the NES, had not been introduced.
