- I picked up the AWE touring exhaust for the FK8 type r about 8 months ago and I have been really happy with it. AWE was a great company to work with. The sound is deep and not raspy, and it only really gets loud in the upper RPM's so it is great for daily use. I was originally going to go with the slightly cheaper HKS exaust which is quieter, but I'm super happy I went with the AWE. This exhaust fixes the main issue with this great car, it is just way too quiet from the factory!

Hey man, great vid. Just a question, do you think this exhaust is on the louderside? I live in CA and exhaust has to be under 90 Db (lawnmower), how loud does it get when crusing 40 in city and 80 on highway? Also is the noise in the cabin loud?
Thanks! I was initially worried that this exhaust would be too loud, but I was very happy with the volume and tone. The car is not loud unless you get on it, and I would guess that it will be above 90Db at WOT. It isn't very loud when cruising on the highway. You might be able to get away with it in California depending on how strictly they enforce the 90Db rule, especially if you aren't reving it out all the time. I'm sure you will like it, it really gives the car the sound it should have from the factory.

I swapped my invidia r400 for the awe touring, the welds and finish of the piping is pretty bad BUT the resonator for the awe is so much better at silencing the drone inside the car and I'm getting much less rattling from the interior because of it.
What downpipe are you using?
I'm still using the stock downpipe.

I track the car regularly and I haven't felt it has needed much. Just have a hasport rear engine mount, catch can, PRL intercooler, upgraded brake pads and fluid. Also Titan7 ts5 wheels.
Did you get rid of the R400 because it was too quiet?
Debating this or the track edition for price but don’t want it to be ridiculously loud. Also have looked into the Greddy SP Supreme (cheaper end). Any tips?
I have had a few friends buy the greddy because it is cheaper and they ended up selling it. My advise is go with the AWE touring or if you want to go a little cheaper and quieter HKS legamax is a good choice. The awe touring isn't really too loud and the track version isn't much louder, but it will have some drone since it doesn't have the muffler. The cool part is if you buy the track version and it is too loud AWE sells the muffler section separately so you can always make it into the touring system if you wanted.

I think you will be happy with it! I'm pretty picky when it comes to aftermarket exhaust, especially for this car.

@@johnss2k434 just put the AWE touring today. the inside cabin noise is really loud from the exhaust. almost a buzzing noise when cruising. did you notice this as well? its physically huring my ears. maybe because im used to silent stock exhaust??
Sounds like you need to loosen it up and readjust it. It must be rattling against something.
@@johnss2k434 its not a rattling sound, but a low boomy sound. possibly drone. it's really bad at when cruising at 70mph. it's like the fake exhaust noises from Active Sound Control but the volume is up 3x

Do you have a downpipe or frontpipe? Or is it just the catback?
The exhaust system comes with the front pipe. The downpipe is stock.

Hey! I was in the same position, but everyone has a different tolerance level when it comes to drone. I love the tone of this exhaust, it makes the car more fun to drive. I actually just installed it on my 21' model recently. Unfortunately just about every exhaust for this car does have some drone. I don't find it hard to live with because it isn't too bad, but it is there. If you don't end up liking it a quieter option would be the hks legamax. Good luck
@@johnss2k434 I did two STIs back in the day will full invidia 3' TBE (Catted downpipe). I'm assuming if I daily drove those setups, this awe here shouldn't bother me right?
My old subaru set up was louder than this one. As long as you are running the stock downpipe you will be fine.

I just absolutely hate the way the muffler looks. I know it's not gonna be seen a lot, just looks like a barrel under the car.
Get the track version if you don't want the muffler
@@johnss2k434 I love the sound, I just don't like this particular look on this one. Like AFE Takeda has a similar sound, but two smaller mufflers.

The sound in person doesn't sound like the afe exhaust. I think you will like it. You could also just paint the muffler black if you don't want to see it.
