I also felt the same way with other classic beat 'em up platform games, like Battletoads, Batman, and my nemesis, TMNT (you had to tap the jump just right or you would fall through certain holes in the platforms).

Found it far more satisfying to throw bad guys off cliffs then gain punch hearts. Made my way through each level chucking these characters off cliffs. Haha

I used to remember leveling up all hearts on the first level. It just took patience and not killing the bad guys so fast. Plus at the very end of the game if he timed it right he could've picked up the knife as the last bad guy is "blinking" on the ground and it would've turned into a bat. A glitch that came in pretty handy.

over 30 years and I still remember, if you pick up linda's whip on the third flash, it will turn into like a glitchy bat. and obobo takes 16 jump kicks. and you can go up the wall in the beginning level. and in the second level, you can go up and down the other side of that fence and back up and to the left and down again and bat an invisible character repeatedly for extra heart points. and the last boss; if you stand in a certain part of the floor, he can't hit you. nes had tons of great games. ..memories

You know what? Bar the missing two player mode, this is a solid game, and it actually does feel like it has the arcade game's combat mechanics. The Billy sprite is a little messy (when did he become a redhead?", but apart form that I love this port, and I had hours of fun with it back in the day. It deserves it's place alongside Mario and Turtles.

The Arcade Double Dragon is such a part of my childhood, (yea im in my 40s) you cannot fathom the amount of dissapointment with this port. Its a decent enough game, not having 2 player is basically a war crime. But the tried...its a shame the visceral violence of the original arcade was never recaptured. In my head. Only the arcade version of DD 1 and 2 are real...along with DD Advance, as the series last great bow out.

In mission 2 instead of fighting the boss all you have to do is climb back down the ladders until the victory theme plays and your on to the next mission

+Minister Marshmallow Hate to disappoint you but no. As much as I like these games (especially DD2) I still can't find time to try and beat them without dying. But I can say for sure that I will make the playthroughs in future.
In missions 1 and 2, use the extra time to single kick, move, single kick, move.... again and again, the chicks with whips. You rack up the points to get the hearts and thus more moves much earlier in the game. That six heart elbow and seven heart spinning back kick are devastating.
To me, this was the original. Its just the first one I played although its not the original. When I opened my nintendo at christmas, I had a few games and this was one. I still remember the feeling of this game playing it at my grandmas with my cousins. So great.@@user-or6yn8pm3c

The NES Double Dragon 2 was much better.
To me, this was the original. Its just the first one I played although its not the original. When I opened my nintendo at christmas, I had a few games and this was one. I still remember the feeling of this game playing it at my grandmas with my cousins. So great.@@user-or6yn8pm3c
