That was a really smart way to get the rest of the tube out. Inspired me to start thinking outside the box for getting a fastener out of a tight spot in my Camry's subframe.
I ended up just buying a new dipstick and cutting the end part that’s stuck in hole, and bolted it on. I’ll eventually try taking out the part that’s stuck one day.
I had an old nova I was fixing up, a rear shock bolt broke. I bought a screw extractor set. As I attempted to remove the boult it broke. Called a wekfmding shop the van arrived he torched the broken bolt until orange tossed water on it. Weld a stud he got it in under 29 minutes.
Very impressive, I have the same issue, but it’s not broken all the way down, gonna keep soaking it with the rust remover, but I may need to use this technique. What parts did you have to take out to get access to that?
I have a feeling this task will be in my future. I have about 4-5" sticking out but it's rotten. What size bolt did you use for screwing into the tube? I think I might try the slide hammer suggestion. There is little to no room to work down there for prying. Good job!
@@AndyTheXTech I got to this job today. Some good some bad. The tube was too rotten to take a thread but I ended up with about a 3/8” stub sticking out. So I took a 3/8 split shaft collar and dimpled the inside then slid a 5/16 bolt down the tube and sandwiched the tube between the two thinking the collar would hold the bolt tight enough to tap it out. Several good raps on a pry bar from below and it came out. Part of it anyway. It broke at the o-ring groove. Rotten down that far! When I went to fish out the rest with a wire it just fell away into the pan. Will probably find it stuck to the drain plug next oil change. 😂 So anyway thanks for the inspiration and we got er done.
I had trouble with mine today but eventually got it with drill bit in reverse.. came right out. Only problem is the new dipstick won’t go all the way in.. it’s leaving about 1/2 out and won’t seat. Any suggestions? Thank you
Yes I feel like this happened to me before. Try to clean as much rust out of the hole as possible. Might have to sand some of the finish off the dipstick tube and get it to seat. Like there might be a little too much paint on it. Use a little oil on the seals.
I've gotten a screw extractor to work once in my life, and that was it
Nice. Most of the time they really suck.

Awesome! Ya it’s good to try different things. 👍
Used a lag bolt and crowbar. Worked like a champ. Thanks!!!
Nice 👍

Nice how much did they charge you?
Good f….king job man. Smart
Thanks 😉👍
plan on doing this today 👍👍
Drain oil and use a small magnet pickup tool to fish it out of oil pan might be another option
Ya you could try to drill the top part out and push it in but it’s risky if you do t get it all.

The inner fender well. And I was doing exhaust manifolds so those were out also.
Great job, thanks for the video.
Thanks! Your welcome! I wish I could say it was fun. 🤣👍

Thank you! To be honest with you I’m not exactly sure of the size of the bolt. I just use whatever fit. Maybe an 8 mm.

Awesome! Ya it’s always great when it works out. 👍

Knocked mine into the oil pan never heard from or saw it again. My friend has 2 in his oil pan.
😂 ya it’s probably stuck In a corner. Probably won’t do any damage.
Man my transmission dipstick tube is broke in half right where under where it bolts to engine
I have a 08 Chevy Silverado v6 & I cannot see my dipstick hole to save my life
O no it’s probably rotted away like this one. I like those v6 engines easy to work on. Not a lot of problems.
What size screw extractor did you use?
I think it was an Ex-5 or Ex-4 either way it didn’t work this time. I have had them work in the past but this one was very rusty.
Should really let us know exactly what you're making model you're working on
Well that was a project wasn't it
Lol! Yes it was 👍
Screw extractors suck
