I just saw GnR in Raleigh. Slash is still an amazing guitarist. They jammed a blues riff while Axl was off stage resting/ tending his voice. Slash never missed a note. He is such a phenomenal guitarist. That's why he will go down as one of the best to ever play. Pushing 60 years old and still has it. I've heard other players his age in elite bands missing notes left and right during solos. It's almost like it's too fast and they don't have the speed/ dexterity to keep up anymore. I could listen to Slash jam a blues riff all day long and be happy.

There was an interview with Ace Frehely where he was asked about a guitar lick and he legitimately had no clue and wanted the interviewer to play the first few bars...which he did, then Ace jumped in and remembered it all.

It is a Vintage Modern Head. I had one and hated it. Sold it and got the Vintage Modern Combo with the two 12'' custom speakers. LOVE IT!!! It is so much better than the head thru a cab. I also have the Slash 2255 going to a Marshall Cab with the 30 Watt Vintage Speakers, changed the pre-amp tube for more drive. I love both outfits however I like the sound of the Vintage Modern Combo slightly better. FloridaBiker

@liquidphuk I used to be a pretty big fan (esp when I played guitar) but some bits I still remember: He uses Seymour Duncan Alnico II pickups generally He favours marshal amps, mainly uses the gibson although has been known to use a bc rich mockingbird (You could be mine..)

Not true. I write tricky licks that take me weeks to learn all the time. I've written plenty of songs that I cant even play properly after months. There is the fact that I suck, but there is also a disconnect between what the imagination dreams up and what the fingers can physically do. Just because I can imagine and write a lick played at light speed it doesn't mean I'm going to be able to play it straight away. It takes weeks to learn your own shit as it does to learn other peoples shit. The leveller is the guitar and what your fingers can do on it cold when you haven't played something enough yet. All this goes double when your shit includes having to use high risk techniques where the risk of slippage is high. Basically put, if your imagination isn't stretching your fingers to the limit then you are just fucking around. And if your imagination has gone beyond what the fingers can do, you will need to learn and practise it. anyone who says otherwise doesn't play guitar and if they do they dont do it well.

Slash usually uses a half-step lower tuning than the standard, so the strings are slightly more loose. Also it will become easier to bend as you gain finger strength.
Slash uses a lot of licks based on the harmonic major and minor scales, which I think he uses in this licks, I'm not formally educated in music and I play by ear but it sounds like harmonic to me.
My favorite guitarists never know what they do... But with a band behind them, it all comes roaring back on stage :D That's the only way to play IMHO...
i have heard Slash does have lowish output buckers, and does keep the volume dial on the lp quite low, then cranks the amp. ive never got a good tone doing it that way tho..

You're right, if you have the technical ability, high action is an inconvienience, but by no means a total hindrance. Conflict diffused :)

@Conficker97, Yeah I agree. Fast is not necessarily good but it can be depending on the guitarists skill. Trivium is a good example of fast thrash with excellent guitars. But then slow songs can be just as difficult. Take Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. It might not be the most difficult song ever, but he puts passion into the solo instead of just speed picking everything.
the vm only has one channel so that kinda sucks if u wanna go from dirt to clean or vice versa but its definitley a kick ass amp, i got the JCM and its great for everything rock and blues and its got 2 channels theres also a 4 channel one but not neccessary for me, im thinkin bout gettin the VM to tho for combining them, hope this helped
Hey man, thanks a lot for your reply...tube amp can be the answer I'm looking however check this dilemma: I have at home gibson les paul and I play on marshall mg series. no matter what I tried I simply can't get that tone. The dilemma is: when I play this video of slash via my small mg series amp. I get the a perfect sound which I get in no other way. which means in a strange way that the amplifier has the capacity to produce this tone there are just not the buttons to tune into that tone...

The dilemma is: when I play this video of slash via my small mg series amp. I get the a perfect sound which I get in no other way. which means in a strange way that the amplifier has the capacity to produce this tone there are just not the buttons to tune into that tone...
