What are your thoughts on this 1957 Chevy with only 44 miles?

Love the 57 and 70 chevys
Beautiful car...but not ALL original. Just so others know. Besides the tranny cooler, the fuel line should be steel with a glass bowl filter just before the carb. Plus the black script paint on the valve covers is not original. I also noticed the shifter knob is missing. But like I said...a beautiful car.

First of all I have to say it’s a beautiful car but there are many clues it is not an original 44 mile car. It has had a repaint at some point because all the fender bolts have been painted over along with the gas cap. Missing the screws holding the top trim above the gas door, also firewall should be red on a red car not black. Matador red cars always came with a red interior not silver and black. Gas lines should be all steel with glass bowl filter not rubber with a plastic filter added. Master cylinder is not the original GM type with a plastic twist top instead of the iron hex top. Plastic washer bottle was not an option, glass jar was. Engine was repainted because valve covers had silver script in 57 not black as in 55-56. Noticed side mirror is a 58 style one not a 55-57 style one. Chrome gear shift knob and aftermarket transmission cooler have also been mentioned by someone before. All these things tell me it’s an older restoration to be a nice driver but no where near correct as an “original” car should be with only 44 miles.

Due to the lack of details on the car's history and so many things not stock I seriously doubt this to be a 44 mile car. I would also like to see the cowl tag. I have never seen an original Matador Red '57 without a red/black interior. There are plenty of red '57s with a black and silver interiors and every one I've come across was another color from the factory. In the video the owner is very vague on where the car came from other than an older gentleman. If it has 44 miles there would be more history. However I hope it really is a 44 mile car. That would be something.

Beautiful chevy's . I wonder if she knows if there was ever a 57 bel air on display in a Cafe back in the 1980's and 90's possibly near flamingo hotel in Nevada? I was recently told about this and would like to verify it.

Hope the hood is not "pranged". I messed up a hinge like that on a 64 Ford pickup. Hood set up a bit from then on. Service station guy showed up with a cup of kerosene just a bit too late.
Now most cars on the road all lookalike and you have to make an effort to find an emblem to be sure of what it is.

Can you imagine owning a car that wasn’t white black or silver? It’s crazy the amount of colors that were offered at the dealership back then. Green, yellow, PINK, all factory colors.
If I remember correctly, the ‘56 Chevy also hid the gas filler in the tailfin behind the taillight.
I believe so.... one of them had the light fold down, instead of pop to the side.
Hate to tell you it's not all original. There never was a copper heat tube to the carb it was steel. Also an add on fuel filter and gas line are NOT original. The hose clamp on the radiator hose is aftermarket. The gas cap was never painted body color and was raw steel. It did not have rubber vacuum hose to the distributor it was steel. The factory Never used zip ties on the wiring and many of the connectors are incorrect. I would love to slide underneath and check out the frame and brake lines. I call bullshit bigtime. How do I know? I bought one brand new. Also where is the knob for the gear shift.
He did say all original, you be the judge? I have a true 58 Bel air all original. Steel gas lines, glass bowl with stone filter, unpainted gas cap, Original seats with fabric, even the OG break cylinders and spare tire, carpet etc... it has 58k miles.

First off, let me say that I love your vids. I also know that YOU know your cars. With that said, I'm a little disappointed that you didn't call her out on the fact that "you know" that it is most definitely NOT an original 44 mile car. I'm also VERY disappointed at the title of your vid. Come on dude, you're better than this clickbait bullshit! Just call it what you know it to be man.
In any event it sure is yet another beautifully done '57 Chevy, however, I believe wholeheartedly that it would appeal to so many more if it was properly and truthfully represented.

Sheri and her family have done so much for the Las Vegas community, I'm not there to pick apart her cars and collection. The goal is to showcase the cars/ collections for others to see. No way in hell that’s 44 mile car. I’ve been around 57s my entire life. 144,000 is more like it.
This is not a 44 mile original...its a restored car...MANY things not original...even the headlights are wrong. I'm pretty sure you could not get silver interior with the matador red exterior on a Belair model...

Sorry to say...the more I look, the less I think this is an original, low mileage car. Not to be a party pooper but so others don't use it as an original reference.

Click bait. Not a 44mile car
No really. 44 on the ODO... that's how it was presented to the family.
Too many changes under the hood to clam 44 factory miles. Radiator is very bent on the top, spark plug wires are zip tied in the incorrect location, metal piping is gone and changed with rubber hoses, generator doesn’t have factory Delco tags. Heat tube from the exhaust to the carb is incorrect. Paint under the hood looks wrong in many places. Id say it may have 44miles on the ODO but those miles must be after some sort of restoration.

Absolutely not original, Guaranteed for sure, it has maybe been restored and the speedo turned back or turned over. If you look close you can spot rippled in chrome to front bumper, probably chromed many years ago when the bumpers were not so readly available. Has not original parts like retaped, plastic fuel filter, and missing metal fuel tube, has screw on clamp, ( did not have that.) Also has repainted manifold, indicating many hot/cold cycles, it would never happen with 44 miles, period, period, period, I do have a low mileage 1957 Bel-Air, I don't have a plastic overflow bottle, and have a decal on my Generator. They wanted to hang me for having a reproductive upper Rad hose, but I would Never, Ever, Ever have a "Flex" hose. Parts like decals on headlights, will peel no matter what you do. The last thing is general feeling about the paint, ( overly restored) interior color choice, satin and glossy gold trim, gas cap I cannot say I remember it being painted body color and has chips in it, not with a car with 44 miles, mine is original and is a zinc color. The carb is entirely to dirty for nearly no mileage, I have in the 50k miles, and mine is super clean. I saw some things like that are no longer bolted to the engine compartment, car probably had electronic ignition.The proof is in the 1956 purple next to it, she claims it has less than 400 miles, and I can tell you that is also absolute bull. The entire car is redone from motor, paint, tint windows, replaced chrome, and he "put thousands into it, why for a car that has 400 miles? I'm not saying that she is intentionally misrepresenting the card, just that she does not know any better. Here is the thing, barring unforeseen, Rare, unusual situations, ( and there were a few) anyone purchasing a car in the mid 1950's was buying it to use and drive, there were no classic 1957 Chevys in 1957 it was just a car, ( still can be loved and admired for the design) but no one was collecting them then ( I went to buy one in the 1970's for 950 dollars). They became an icon latter when the were not available for cheap money and were still being driven as regular go to town cars.
I appreciate the feedback.... We are planning on revisiting some of these cars early next year. In general you brought up a great point. People that bought cars in 57 bought them to drive them. It was not a "57 Chevy" it was just a car.
