How to SCARE your girlfriend! - Free Range Sailing Ep 111

- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- This week we depart the Gold Coast Seaway ready to ride the northerly winds 100 nautical miles to the mouth of the Clarence River in New South Wales coastline. Once the wind picks up in the afternoon, we go the fastest we've ever been on Mirrool surfing downwind. It made for an exciting sail (as well as being a little bit nerve wracking for Pascale!).

At around 12:00, Pascal said "My goodness". I didn't know people still said those phrases anymore. It was so utterly sweet to hear that.
Rajeev Kamble , thats what we say when we’re REALLY crapping it!!
The overall quality of this channel is just the best.
Great work on this channel! Just the two of you, no camera person and no scuba gear!
beautiful underwater shots snorkeling and totally educational in a down to earth way!
Fair winds....and Fosters
And the Sailors' Nemesis appears once again at the most inopportune time to distract and annoy. Everyone's favorite, The Moron on a Jet Ski. 2:45
Look they provide a great public service. They aerate the water which improves it's oxygen carrying capacity for the fish. They spend money at marine businesses. They pay double licence fees. And some of them are organ donors.
@@philgray1023 lmao
I don't think Troy has had a bigger smile. Love tuning in guy's. Every ep. for about a yr now. Great trip - well planned really. Good to wait for the Northerlies.
Heavy seas get a little freaky, Rode a typhoon out once, 4 days and nights. vivid memories😬even now. ❤️ your post.
It's fun seeing you sail through places I've lived. I've seen that Gold Coast Seaway with 5-6 foot wave faces breaking on the inside of the seaway. Deep inside. The surf outside so big the light house on the end completely disappearing...and that's on the small sets. There's footage of a big catamaran surfing a wave, standing half way up it's mast, into the seaway. A calm passage through there is not something to be disappointed by. I note over 5000 views just 4 hours after video release. Killing it.
What a hoot of a sail!!!
Wooo Hooo!!
Cheers Gray
Brizzie
Congrats on a successful exciting sail. Downwind sailing like that requires confidence in the boat, rigging, and seamanship.
As much as you guys share there are still many things that just can't be shown. Dolphins swimming at the bow in pitch black night leaving ghostly trails of bioluminescence is one of the most magical things I've ever seen. Yet it's something that can't be filmed and can barely be described. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.
Fair winds.
Saw that off New Zealand. It was like bioluminescence torpedoes.
I guess its great to find out that your vessel can handle such instances. Great Video!!
Another fine one Matey!! You are our favorite sailors on the mighty blue and are becoming VERY accomplished at sailing and capturing the moments on camera :-)
Nice video...predictwind for currents has been a big game changer for us..not those great helping currents we get to factor in (or the bad hurting currents, but then you sort of know where to go to avoid the worst of bad currents. A ways...great video as usual...enjoyed it! -§Rebecca on SV Brick House
Pascal you need a hug girl🤗 great job. I couldn’t have not did it😱
I have been watching you two sail for a long time .
Been thinking about getting one myself thank you for the entertainment you provide.
8:36 the girl needed a hug & reassurance there Mate rather than an explanation!
How to toughen up your girlfriend
She gets spoiled enough already!
Tora Tora , The Captain is the Captain and Crew are crew. But yes this in not on a ship but boyfriend and girlfriend so yes in this situation I would have done the same. LOL
@@FreeRangeLiving Hahaha!!! Well said!!!
Felt like I was onboard sailing with you. Wow! Great Video.
I feel the need....The need....for speed! Great video you 2.
I grew up in Yamba and have crossed that bar in all kinds of weather and at night as well. It can be tricky and more than a few people have gotten into trouble especially at night, so you guys did very well! I hoped you enjoyed the Clarence Valley, it holds a very special place in my heart.
Enjoy Yamba and upstream. Did the same in reverse with my wife a few years back (Coffs to the Seaway) with the tail end of a southerly buster. Character building and skill defining. Really enjoying the vibe of your vids.
Just watched finding Nemo tonight, and hearing you guys mention the EAC made me chuckle :)
Hey duuude ! 😂
Great Sail you'll always remember that one!
The videos get better and Pascal gets more beautiful every day!
Yeah, bioluminescence is awesome! Everything is more fun with trippy light effects, even flushing the toilet becomes a spectacle...
8.5 Knots is almost 10 mph. The fuel cost is slightly more than $0.00 USD. :) Dramimine is $8.32USD per 36 tablets !
"Free Range Sailing" video=bad week salvaged! 11 knots!?! Thanks once again for sharing with us!
That's a typical run south from the Seaway to the Clarence. I only allow 18 hours in my Top Hat [25'] and it's always slow until you reach Tweed Head. I'm sure you will have found it to be much the same down the rest of the NSW coast.
I'm glad I came across your channel, enjoyed this sail thanks for sharing , take care be safe
Hope you watch some off the earlier ones when we were in the north of Australia. Amazing place!
Do hope you fellas are both OK and that the recent terrible fires have not caused you any family or personal harm, or danger. Keep well and if you can let your fans know what is going on, pls.
What a Awesome Sail, Troy is a laugh a min when Mirrool is flying.
We really enjoyed hat guys, thanks for sharing. Ant, Cid & the Pooch crew.
Bars! My first bar-crossing was in 2017; the Wide Bay bar going in......the chart plotter said we did 19.6knots. Maybe the world’s fastest Zeston 36?
Terry Mitchell
Thank you - absolutely love you both, hope to meet you on the water one day xx
Awesome river system and great fishing
Great sailing ⛵️ can always count on a lot of sailing while on your Vlogs!!Your boat is fast!! Yea so much for hull speed calculations 😂Thanks for sharing glad you made it safely to the harbour
Excellent episode for quality and content. Great fun. Fair winds & regards from the UK
Thank you so much for the excitement. Splendid indead.
Finally, the land of milk and honey...👍and threw in some excellent downhill sailing to boot.⛵😁 welcome to NSW.
Great flight this time!
:-D
Thx for taking us with you!
:-D
That was great .
Not normally this hard with interjected nice and tight ..am I even old enough to watch this channel Mom? This folks is why we sail...;-) Stunning footage the pair of you..x
nice video thanks
Thank you for putting on your safety gear.
Riley and Nikki hit 24 kts, on La Vagabond on their North Atlantic passage with Greta. It must be such an incredible feeling when the wind powers you so strongly.
Wow those Outremers really can fly! We're pretty happy with our knot per dollar rate though 😃
@@FreeRangeLiving Mirool is a fine ship, she has and will taken you great places, many others cannot follow.
Perhaps it was the ship's protesting to that child's certainties on very ambiguous matters and wanted to get rid of her asap.
This could be the second sailing channel I leave if this continues coming up for discussion.

TBoneMC
“That child’s” only certainties are that the world’s politicians are not taking the scientists seriously. Are you guys saying she’s wrong?
That was exciting! Watching on my big screen TV, I could feel the wave motion. Thanks for another great video.
Yes, it really adds to it with a big screen, don't you think, mine is a projection 3.2m x 2.1. Really feels like being aboard. Heaps of fun watching these guys!
Hope the resolution is good on the big screen, we never get to see them except on our little computers!
@@FreeRangeLiving The picture is excellent in every way. Resolution, contrast and color saturation.
@@FreeRangeLiving You need to see them on a big screen sometime.
Can we take that as a future invite?
WOW!
Richard
Oooo, I'd get sooo ill with all that pitching. Pretty smooth sailing here on Puget Sound, even during a squall!
Yep was looking for my pills....lol
As usual the video was over far too soon. Thanks so much for bringing us along for the ride. Fair winds and following seas. (Looks like you had them!)
Flying for sure! Great one to see ... must have been exciting 👍
Epic yet again!! I have my 35-year-old 40 foot hunter almost ready for the first passage to the Bahamas. Wish you two would come along?🤔😏😊
Thanks
heya oh wouw that fast would make my head go crazy too
Cuz I've been watching you pretty much from the very beginning and I love your videos. I just wish you'd do more fishing and Diving like you used to catch some of those big Barras. Happy sailing guys.
The whole of Australia can't be like Kimberley!
Love from Canada watch every show look forward to every one.
Thanks for a great video. The intro is pretty special.
Three things in life guaranteed to make you smile....Dolphins, weddings and hearing a baby laugh.
You make it look so easy.
Love your vids.
I dont think i would like it in the night, but that was some great sailing!
Awesome guys
Love that you are in an area that enlightens my heart. Possible you can can include an explanation of Polars? I'm sure Mirrool loved smashing expectations.
We don't really use polars on Mirrool. I'm not much of a racing sailor. It's more ' the vibe of the thing'
Is it amazing how 8 knots or so can seem so freaking fast?
Super cool sail, great stuff.
You Rock Pascal..pretty sure You have more 'piedras' than most of the guys i know..Escorted in through bioluminescent seas by dolphins for Y'all. For me, a lonely raven flying over my truck as we meet up in the snowy donut shop parking lot looking for a breakfast sandwich..You Win.
Another great and informative video!
(@11:50) 10 1/2 knots on a 30’ yacht is well exceeding hull speed! (Gotta love surfing!!!) ;-)
Fantastic sailing folks luv it cheers
You two are brilliant!
Hull speed? Pah! 👍
You have inspired us to do the same, retirement is almost here and it's time to decide what to do, we have a 4 YO we adopted at birth so plenty of time to learn all I can about sailing.
Geez! Love the way you maneuvered that sail Troy. Pascal, have you seen the movie Maiden? You'd love it and it would give you more confidence. You have the skills.
Awesome as always! 👍
Feckin flying luv it encore
Amazing video... so much fun. Wish I were with you.
Excellent as usual!!!
We are aiming to head down to the Clarance River in a couple of weeks. Hopefully we won't have to cross the bar at night.
Hello from North Carolina . Nice sailing .
Your very cool guys happy Christmas and happy new year be safe wherever your journey takes you
Most always an adventure with you two !!! 👍⛵✨☀️✨🌊⚓️⛵️🏝✨💕✨
Pascale. You have graduated to the next level B.R.A.V.O. !!
Epic video!. 😎 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very nice sailing, really enjoyed that, here in the UK it's vicarious sailing only at the moment, we're having some shocking weather. These older boats can show a surprising turn of speed for their size/displacement/hull form - mine's a 1969 Bowman 26, amazing for her size, thinking of maybe doing the Jester Azores challenge, maybe maybe even transatlantic. Fair winds...
Bowman yachts sport such nice lines. Hope she carries you proudly if you do sail to the Azores.
Suddenly speedy boat!
B safe guy's awesome video.
Only fast sailing that I have ever done was getting a dinghy sailer to plane. Quite fun.
nice Komatsu hat
You two are soooo lucky !! To be able to swim and see such beautiful seascape's !! Can you tell me what underwater gear you are using ? If I can find them, I have some camera filters that I used for color correcting underwater photo's and video. Mostly for correcting the blue, green and cyan bias from sea water ! Some of the filters are sharp cutoff di-chroic's, so you get less blue only ! So, let me know what the lens diameter threads are used for screw-on filters ? And, let me know where to send them ! Take Care and Merry X-Mas !!
Thanks Joe but we are heading into wilder places and won't have an address for some time.
Nice run .... that made me jelly ... I miss that so much .... 🤘❤🤘
Eeeeehhhh, ya lubbers! We get bigger waves on our duck pond. LOL.
Wow the wind finally found you or you found it & were "truckin". I don't understand 'reefing' with the sail. Great video & I'm gonna like the next one.
Reading is a term for reducing the surface area of a sail by taking part of it in.
@@FreeRangeLiving Ah good & thanks now I know. I sub another sailing channel but never understood their explanation.
THAT IS WHAT I CALL SAILING !!!
Well done guys ! amazing ! and in total darkness
Rough seas like that seems to me would have been a great opportunity
for " Man Overboard Drill ". Might wish to be sure Life Insurance payments are up to date first.
First rule is stay on the boat tomorrow if just before don't burn down the boat
@@FreeRangeLiving Please don't be cocky like those Catamaran Cruisers. Be safety conscious in rough seas and wear your safety harness on deck and your PFD.
Remember....you're only sailing half a boat hehe.
A question. Was Mirrool a purchase from Yorkeys Knob. I believe I knew the previous owner who was a great guy who is not with us anymore. I used to be moored two away and we had great boatie chats for a few years. Always admired the little ship. May well be wrong...
It was from Russ, sorry to hear he has passed.
Great stuff guys, we are planning to do the same trip shortly, will be our first time offshore in the boat. Looking forward to the adventure. I saw the current absolutely screaming from the 80-100m line on the charts, we’re thinking of heading out there and catching it all the way south. How far out did you guys travel? Cheers!
Yup that's where we were 100m contour. Have a look on the windy currents section as well it will tell you where it is right now. We're heading to Jervis today. Hope we can cross paths!
Free Range Sailing yeah good to know cheers! Can’t wait to get out there! Enjoy JB it’s beautiful down there, definitely bust out your squidding gear, it’s full of them
Just stumble across your channel, Love it guy’s i subd keep up the good work👍👍
Welcome to the crew, hope you enjoy the videos from the start
Free Range Sailing i am watching through them 👌👌
Have a awesome marry christmas you 2 and a happy new year from us in thailand.
Merry Christmas y’all.
You too mate and all the best for your family in 2020!
COOL you guys were cookin'! I am a recent subscriber, what make and model is your boat? I have a Pacific Seacraft Orion and our boats look somewhat similar. But I couldn't get my 10,000 pound full keel boat up to 8 plus knots! Thanks for the great video. Ben S/V Dawn
Clansman 30 g.co/kgs/3w7k7S
The most similar design to ours in the US is the Alberg 30 or in Europe, the Elizabethan 29. No nice wood trim throughout our little vessel.
Great. Video , ref lighting if you put yourself in a Red light it would make it easy ,see you next time.
Troy, there is a site called www.windy.com on the right side there are more layers, click that scroll down to currents. Very handy for the east coast after you get out of the protection of the GBR, as handy as the wind forecast, maybe more reliable.
They talked about Windy back when they were in the whitsundays, I think they use it still.
Yes mate, we do look at it alongside the Meteye program from the BOM. There's a lot of resources on that great little app.
@@FreeRangeLiving Good'O you're on to it, just wondered. Its better use is going north when it is against you, hugging the bays for the counter current, we use to just guess it and now a push of a button.
good to see you both in NSW how far south are you coming drop in to Port Stephens and say hi
Passed already.
