as someone whos learning how to properly bunny hop rn not doing 2 wheels at the same time anymore, (i learned how to PROPERLY get them almost every time now today) all i did at first to get the motion was lift the front a tiny bit as if ur doing like a manny for even half a second then just hop up n suck ur feet, even the smallest amount. I know its hard for people to understand sometimes when the teacher is so good at something n forgets tips, but all this is fresh in my head (by no means am i a pro lmao) but hopefully anyone who hasnt bunny hopped yet that helped
Please keep doing this. Giving people access, especially kids, to tips that are clear and easy to understand, outside of the parks that few of us have east access to,..is in my opinion fantastic. I've been riding for well since the 80s and I find these tips refreshing and just really cool. You are doing a great thing. Be well
Aye the How to's are back. I learned how pull up bar from your old barspin tutorial, still working on the hop bar. How about a hang-5 how to? Keep up the good work my guy.
@@FTLBMX nice! I'm working on 180s and manuals right now so that's perfect timing. I watched your how to 180 video and it was a big help. I'm 33 and just started riding about 2 months ago.
4:32 The jimmy hop was called the UK bunnyhop back in the day and the other bunnyhop when you lift the front wheel first was call the american bunny hop back when i first started riding when i was 7
Thanks to your video, I finally learned how to bunny hop! I admit, it's only a 5-6 inches so far but, early days :) One little tip that I found out that I was getting wrong at first, was that I was putting all my weight on the pedals whilst trying to pull up the bars. Wrong. When you go to pull up the bars, you almost have to 'jump up' off the pedals whilst you lift the bars. That way you'll get much more height, and the bike will come up with you.
This was helpful. I'm one of those who learned the wrong way to hop with both wheels. I have been struggling to properly hop, but I never stopped to think that the motion of a bunny hop or J-hop is almost identical to go over any jump, or bump-jump for that matter. Maybe all I need to do is approach it like a bump jump, just without a bump.
I learned the same way back in the day. And now that I'm 31 and back at it, wondering why I can't get height like my friends; some months ago I learn that there's this motion! And it makes more sense now. But I'm still struggling for height and form. I found this video today. When he brought up the bump jump, it all clicked. I can't wait to go try like I'm bump jumping with no bump!
I know how to hop, but I definitely needed to work on my form. Strangely enough I get higher hood out of fakies/cabs than I do normally. It just something about my body position that I totally understand 1 direction (fakie even if it’s backwards lol) then I do the other.
alot of practice, and lean back and keep trying to find your balance point, point toes up, bend knees, and compress your-self a bit more than you're comfortable with. And always remember how to bail, in this case falling back and catching yourself with your feet.
Hey bro,,,, I’m beginner on bmx, I get wrong bike size, with 21”TT and my 5.4”height (163cm) My bunny hop not really high, I know bcoz the frame to long for me, but how if I change the bars with the smaller like 8.50mm or 8.75mm. My bunnyhop will better or same like with the bars use now 9”. Thanks for answer
Keep up the “How to’s”. Always wanted to footjam whip, almost had it down when i was younger. I wanna know how you guys Nollie also, and how the fuck you ride so well with no brakes. What tricks can & can’t you do with no brakes etc, like can you abubaca and fufanu with no brakes? Thnx, keep it up FTL
i mean its pretty easy to get used to no brakes tbh, i took mine off like 2 weeks ago and the only thing i found was if u arent sure about something ur riding on u either gotta hop off or send tf outta it, with no brakes u cant half ass anything or youll bail, but just wanting to stop u jus jam ur foot in the tire lol
Bruh I can fakie hop out of cabs than I can normally and I can’t figure out why lmao. Like my normal hops I feel stiff, but anytime I half cap or full cap, I feel like I get more height and better “form” out it’s crazy.
To get the back wheel up, u have to jump, you need to bring your knees up high. The pulling motion of your handlebars will bring the front wheel up, but if your legs don’t springing upwards immediately after, then the back wheel isn’t going anywhere. Rear end will lift up if you pull up the handlebars and jump with your legs this way the rear end becomes “weightless“ and will follow the upwards motion caused by the pulling up of the handlebars. Billy explains at 3:57 how to get the back wheel up, with feet pointing slightly down (pedals level) and he definitely shows it several times. Look at the slow-motion part where they jump over the cone and you’ll see how they bring their knees up towards their chest. I’m 42 years old and today I pulled off my first Bunnyhop.
your hops r beautiful a more brief breakdown & showing the form would be good, side view. The lead shot us awesome, it’s obscured by intro. Getting the back end up, most can pull up, synchronization of all the motions & if & what u r thinking as you go for it.
dude the first hop in this vid is a very high ledge & there’s hardly any pre load or explosion, none of the stuff recommended by joy of bike for example

As always good stuff from Billy. Thanks for inspiring us.
riding a bmx for the first time feels almost like learning to ride a bike again. some of the stuff transfers though, and after you got it, you got it.

Does anyone have any tips I can’t get my back wheel off the ground I can get my front wheel off the ground but not the back
To get the back wheel up, u have to jump, you need to bring your knees up high. The pulling motion of your handlebars will bring the front wheel up, but if your legs don’t springing upwards immediately after, then the back wheel isn’t going anywhere. Rear end will lift up if you pull up the handlebars and jump with your legs this way the rear end becomes “weightless“ and will follow the upwards motion caused by the pulling up of the handlebars. the way i was taught is pull your front tire up and then push your front tire down. still, great tutorial
back in 2014 on youtube i whatch a merrit video i thinck it was the purple kit
Could the bike be too heavy?
I just bought a new bmx. I had a shit one and it's sooooo easy on the new one. Also depends on the weight distribution of the bike
bmxs are normally 25-30 pounds (pros are mainly 25 pounds)
max how do you know if your bike is pro
@@camg910 idk branding, pricing, parts, etc
I have heavy bmx and when Im lifting my fron I must push hard on pedals to lift it becouse with only body mation I can lift it 2cm
Question for y’all how long did it take you to master the buunuhop
It need a long of time tho. Im a beginner still learning hop more higher. (sorry bad english)
Important is to push on pedals while lifting front wheel

u didn’t really cover tech tho
like pulling bars to your waist & not just up, pre load & leg extension
