  • "Freud's Last Session" explores the question...what if two of the best thinkers met together? Christian writer C.S. Lewis is well known for his books including Chronicles of Narnia and Mere Christianity, while Sigmund Freud is one of the best known philosophers. This imaginary tale combines a conversation about God and reason. Anthony Hopkins stars in the film. Director Matt Brown talks with Studio 5 about the importance of people with differing ideas communicating with each other, and the value this film has today.

      @williem1710 He described his relation with Freud as a father and son relationship (with Freud being the father and him being the son) in his autobiography. The split was so dramatic because Freud saw Jung as the one to continue his great psychology, and when they split it was bitter, with Freud calling Jung’s archetypal psychology a “return to primitive animism”, which is a fair critique, although Jung’s work has been more favorable (of course, with its own issues, most notably the assertion that there is a metaphysical “collective unconscious”, when in reality archetypal motifs seem to be symbolic representations of emotional pathways as opposed to existing in a metaphysical “psychoid” realm, the latter which leads to the borderline deification of archetypes)
      So, Freud was less of an “old friend” and more of a Father who Jung forsaked, which is interesting and more dramatic than “old friend”

    Why invent a relationship between Freud and Lewis when the relationship between Freud and Jung actually existed, brought them to some of the same discussions this movie wants to bring in to the spotlight AND showcased Freud's inability to accept other points of view in real time?

      @@amyqb117 Lol, dude, Freud had an actual panic attack (during their trip to America, I think) due to his inability to accept Jung's dissidence. Their correspondence discussing paranormal phenomena is pretty funny, too. They did start being alike "in many ways", but even in his beginning, Jung was much more open to supernatural or unexplainable phenomena, due to his experiences with them during his life and the ones with his patients. They could have played a bit with the timeline, and introduced Jung's alchemical studies, his view of the Aion and Jesus Christ as the "being in itself", a few of his dreams and visions, his Red Book, and even theorized about his actual beliefs.
      I guess I'd just rather watch a movie between those two. Much more emotionally compelling.

    • @amyqb117
      @amyqb117 5 месяцев назад

      @@alraisenavecesdario1744 okay but I don’t see how that has to do with my comment … wether they started out like that or not. CS Lewis is firmly planted in Christianity with a maturity far above Jung’s. These are the opposing sides that are interesting to explore. Two concrete sides of the discussion.
      So I don’t understand the complaint. This is what they decided to go with and they have their reasons. It is also based on a play that was already fleshed out.
      You have your preferences and that’s great. However there is no concrete evidence for what is “more” emotionally compelling here. So better to explore what has been provided according to its merits. Otherwise the alternative is to create yours.
      Jung “theorised” his beliefs, arguably grounded by “curiosity” of the supernatural. He was open minded which would land him in the middle ground between Feud and CS Lewis.
      I fail to see how middle ground arguements are “more compelling” unless to someone who is also content being in the middle. Not believing in God yet entertaining ideas of the supernatural. I guess to atheists and agnostics.
      Hence a preference.

    C.S Lewis was an occultist and a member of the Golden Dawn as was his bff Tolkien. Their books are channeled and from the enemy. Mark and avoid. Pray for discernment.

      Slander is unbecoming of one who follows Christ as it is gravely sinful. Please repent of this behavior. Peace and blessings to you in our Lord Jesus Christ, whose flesh is true food and blood true drink.
