I really admire how Jeff handled the situation with Philip
If you're talking about the tribal council I think you're talking about yes I was surprised at how well he handled it as a kid I didn't realize it but when I rewatched it a year or two ago I was surprised and impressed Jeff basically did everything right which includes validating Phillips feelings whether that guy meant to be racist or not doesn't matter if Philip felt some type of way who are any of us to say he's wrong or anybody's wrong about their feelings
Thats why the show pays him millions
That last clip was so interesting. He was able to see both perspectives and put it into words so both of them felt understood. Really good communication

she was robbed over and over again, especially season 16. that final 3 would’ve been amazing and cirie would’ve won without a doubt
I’ve never really thought much of quitters, including Kathy from Micronesia, but the way she describes her predicament is pretty scary. Imagine you wake up on an island that you’ve been living on for nearly 3 weeks, starving and tired surrounded by strangers that made you feel isolated, and the one thing pushing you on, your family, you can’t feel their existence. I know it sounds cheesy but not being able to feel your family sounds pretty harrowing.
Something else that wasn't addressed on the show is that Kathy had been on anti-depressants for years before the show, and hid that fact from production because she was scared she wouldn't get to play if they knew she was on mental health meds. She quit cold turkey going into the game and effectively spent the entire time sliding into a depressive episode. She was considering "accidentally" chopping a finger off to force her own evacuation, and when she realized that's where she was mentally, she pulled herself. I think her exit is more of a medical evacuation than a quit.

I think she also get sent to exile twice in a row? Which is really hard on anybody, especially if they're already struggling.
Honestly, sociocultural moments like this are the things that make the show for me. I don’t want just strategy talk, I want to know about these people and where they come from. Ow they interact with each other and how they put differences aside and what happens when two personalities rub off each other. This is what makes Survivor so interesting each season. It’s the people, not the strategy. Get rid of the gamebot attitude and make everyone feel like people
The thing that makes me mad with the whole Kimmi/gross food challenge thing is that it's not at all the same as jumping off a cliff when you're scared of heights. That is overcoming a fear. They were asking her to give up on her morals. Something she strongly believes in. And these are the same judgemental people who were preaching about integrity.
Morals and personal choices are 2 different things.
They just worded it that way so she’d not be offended.
She CHOSE not to eat it.
If i chose to tie my shoes a strange way and simply refused to do it any other way…. Thats not a moral… thats a personal choice.
And just because somebody cries when they dont get their way, doesn’t mean they have true conviction in their morals….
Theres seldom any justice in selfish actions.
She took a selfish action.
There wasn’t any point, any moral, or any justice.
It was pure selfishness, done out of a sense of “nah, i just want to do this, screw you” spite.
Trying to call this a moral justification is comparable to a scenario where somebody has taken a child hostage with a gun, but if you shoot first, you’ll save the kid…. But you decide to drop the gun because you dont like loud noises.
To the detriment of others, you’ve gone out of your way to not do what was asked of you.
In your mind, its righteous.
You’ll call the kid a martyr.
But everyone else thinks you’re just irresponsible and unable weigh consequences against actions.
You dont care.
People who don’t care about others justify actions like these under the guise of moral self righteousness.
And its a pathetic excuse for their actions 9/10 times.
@@nicks4802 Jesus Christ that's such an extreme scenario, no it is not the same. Seriously dude, how do these even correlate in your head? You just compared someone refusing to eat meat to someone refusing to take action to save the life of a child. Are you completely deluded?
Morals are rarely practical in life, but we don't follow them out of a desire to "achieve" something, we follow them because we believe that they are right. Kimmi could help progress herself in the game, however to do so requires eating meat. She knows eating meat is wrong (whether or not you want to agree is entirely up to you, it's not really relevant) so she won't do it, despite the fact she's hurting her position in this game. That's not selfish, that's selfless my guy.
You've basically claimed that the whole situation is "I don't like this so I won't do it" when in reality the situation is "I know that this is wrong so I refuse to do it". Those are two VERY different things and if you can't understand that then I really don't know what to tell you.

i feel like she redeemed herself in cambodia where the survivor game was evolved to a point where things like that didn’t matter as much, she’s much better equipped for modern survivor which really makes me wonder which other old school players would do similar

Don't feel sorry for her. She's a manipulative POS. Outside of helping ruin Reichenbach and getting played by Lacina, she's done nothing of note except never, ever win Immunity.

@@beanme100 What does almost winning get her? She's a horrible Survivor player. She sucks at challenges, she can't win Immunity to literally save her game, she can't find immunity idols, and the only reason she makes it far is because she's a goat that you don't want to take to the end because she's viewed as inoffensive/"nice" by the Jury.
There were a ton of microagressions towards Phil that were 1000% racial.
RIGHT! the other castaways were valid for finding him annoying and stuff but 9/10 of the comments they made were uncalled for and just straight up micro aggressions
Love this series. Just finished Cook Islands and I was thinking the conversation between Yul and Becky about their shared Korean heritage would be a good addition. Also, when Ozzy talks about his dad at the FTC and again at the reunion finale. I mean, there are really a lot of sociocultural moments in Cook Islands because of the theme. The other one that really sticks out to me is at the reunion when Nate talks about being called a "race traitor".

isn't that a pescatarian (don't eat any animals except fish)? Vegetarians don't eat any meat or bone products, even if they come from the ocean

I have a lifelong dream of going on Survivor but I weigh 83-88 pounds as it is, and I’m a vegetarian. I couldn’t do an eating challenge, and they’d probably pull me out of the game because of malnutrition.
It was 2001 and she was in her 20s lol.
There have been other vegetarians and vegans on the show
@@Allmynoodles actually things have changed a lot since then, now there aren't eating challenges as far as I remember, and there usually are vegetarian/vegan options with some of the rewards. Angelina from David vs Goliath is vegetarian and Noura from Island of the Idols is vegan; her veganism actually had a role in another contestant's opportunity to get an immunity idol!

@@Jacois when u suffered from sleeping problems it does. U could be trying to go to sleep all night, eyes closed and everything. But your mind can be racing and u could be so stressed, your physically still awake. And then it comes a time where it is time for u to get up, but u haven’t went into rem sleep so u were not fully sleep. It makes perfect sense to me

I legit believe the people around Phil were just as crazy as him. I mean you would get ppl who would wanna physical harm him for making up funny code names or for trying to keep the camp on schedule with camp duties so they’re not starving or without fire. And anytime he wanted to bring up his profession they immediately wanted to dismiss him even though the profession he was claiming is not something you want to lie about multiple times on live television. I literally just found out about mike skupin the guy who came back from season 2 after burning himself and being pulled. They made that man to look like the American dad with the wife and kids and tried so hard to get the audience to like him so much and he still lost but not without being a favorite of the show. Now come to find out that he was actually on his third marriage with 7 kids from 3 different women, owning the second wife back child support, while doing Ponzi schemes after the show.
Phillip was still an asshole. He treated the Zapateras like garbage and then accused Steve of racism for no reason. He put feathers in his head and talked about how he talked to his dead ancestor. He was a clown.

I’ve been a vegetarian for 5 years and in a game like survivor you hold you nose and eat some flesh
Phillips crazy
As much as Phillip was being crazy in that moment, I found it fascinating how uncomfortable it made everyone else to even have racism being mentioned. Jeff still tried to come to an understanding with Phillip and mediate the discussion, even though he could have very easily just dismissed it and moved on.

@@gavinsaint2224 I agree that saying 'I can't be racist because I played NFL/NBA' is lame but Phillip is unquestionably volatile and unstable on the island. Everyone who played with him took issue with his behaviour. Even Francesca called him crazy at the first Tribal Council.

I mostly agree but Kathy's quit in FvF was really her having a complete mental breakdown after being off her medication so I understand why she quit

Osten literally got extremely sick on the island and asked to be voted out so that his team can keep playing. Still hate how they handled that. As for the others, I understand why they quit and imo we don’t exactly know what made them quit. The only one I don’t respect was Colton.
