I can honestly think of Hunt Down the Freeman as the Half Life universe’s Shadow the Hedgehog. Both games have the similar premise of having you play as an edgy anti-hero protagonist who seeks revenge against those who did him harm, especially when they go against the series main protagonist who are typically heroic, ie Sonic and Gordon Freeman.
So that means we're getting a rerelease of the Orange Box with a new campaign with Mitchell battling his own past to stop the Combine and kill Gordon while also G-Man is constantly warping him between space and time to fight Wheatley, Gray Mann, and The Sacrifice horde of infected for some reason?
I hate that this was works too well. People shit on shadow the hedgehog (the game) relentlessly whilst paradoxically giving 06 a pass because it's so bad it's so good when the former was actually decent and given the plot points, had the best ending I could have thought of for Shadow's storyline. Oh and combat was okay and wasn't sonic heroes where your progress comes to a halt because you MUST kill everything in an arena. Hell, certain non exploit speed runs I've seen seem to imply it was well designed, just relatively out of character. All of this however comparing to HDTF its the Sonic 06 cus it's so bad it's so good because of how funny president keemstar is and how fucking quotable the cutscenes are.
I wanna see a mod based off just this. Something that literally has this as an intro and cuts out all the shitty RUclipsr voice acting, most of the original story and all the levels of the game, instead just making something short, tight and coherent - and full of this kind of pure, raw edge. That would be way too hilarious to witness.
