Screening for colon cancer is now recommended at 45. My husband did a stool test instead of a colonoscopy because he was "in good health" and the test was fine. Two years later, he was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer. This type of cancer would have been detected during a colonoscopy, but does not show up on a stool test. Get your colonoscopies and don't ignore digestive symptoms that don't go away, even if they clear up for a short amount of time.

Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices. Fasting should be investigated as a treatment for disease.

Never going to happen. It would cost too much because they’d need to hire more staff. Hospitals are there to get patients up on their feet and out of there as soon as possible. They will lose customers and money if people get healthy and don’t come. Also, people don’t like to be told what to eat.
Plus, you are assuming there is agreement on proper human nutrition. Carnivore diet proponents don’t eat plants. They believe that’s the best diet. Vegans are horrified if a person eats an egg. Vegetarians eat mostly plants, but some include eggs, fish, and occasionally chicken. But no red meat. Some people eat lots of fruit and think that’s healthy. Others believe that too much fruit in the diet is a factor that leads to diabetes. There is huge controversy over whole grains. There are also people who have allergic reactions to certain foods, or intolerances to some classes of foods. Oxalates can cause kidney stones to those who are sensitive. There are scientific studies that support each position.
So, what to teach as proper nutrition?
I think the best you can do is steer people away from highly processed foods, and sugar, and then have each person figure out the rest for themselves. We are not all the same.

I’d rather die than trust a doctor who really is forced to generate money for the hospital. Colonoscopy almost killed me that was the last straw for me… and after testing no one ever followed up well with me. The system is broken. I enjoy Dr. Lee discussion.

So sorry about your bad experience.
My diet deteriorated over the pandemic due to lack of access to variety of fresh foods. Also long term stress. I presented with bleeding a year ago and physical exhaustion. I was terrified of the colonoscopy and endoscopy they recommended for me.
I was terrified I might have cancer, of course.
I decided to make a change and I’ve been on Dr. Li’s diet since last October. 11 months as of now.
Within weeks I felt rejuvenated, greater vitality, stamina, and I felt decades younger. I kept trying to avoid the colonoscopy but I spoke to the doctors and they convinced me, I ought to do it and discover or rule out cancer, at the very least.
And I agreed at last. I feel I gave them a hard time and insisted on a lot of different things. The prep was unpleasant, but the worry I had about it all was much worse.
The procedures thankfully went as well as I might have hoped for, the doctors and nurses were wonderful! They where just terrific.
I did get the flu directly after. I also returned to the bleeding. It had stopped after Dr. Li’s recommendations, of diet and such, from October to December. And then after, the bleeding returned from January to April.
But the great news is that they found only colitis, no tumor, no polyps, no cancer whatsoever. So I feel it was worth it, and I probably will not be so afraid and reluctant to do the colonoscopy in the future. They said I don’t need any more endoscopies, at this time, unless there’s a change.
I went back on Dr. Li’s diet ideas, and health suggestions, well the only break was that awful colonoscopy prep! and as of April, I have had no bleeding ever again and it’s already September and I’m feeling so good again. I feel stronger, well, able to do whatever needs to be done.
I am super careful and strict with what I put in my body now. I cannot thank Dr. Li enough for giving me my health and my life back.
I didn’t learn what kind of colitis I have but it’s probably in remission now. I feel wonderful and just ten or fifteen years younger. I recommend Dr. Li to everyone. Most people don’t seem too interested and I can’t imagine why because his wonderful ideas and contagious joy in living and in enjoying good food, and good health, it’s completely saved my life.
One day I hope to be strong enough again to visit a restaurant, but in the meantime, I feel I’ve become a much better cook, and I am really enjoying a healthy life again. I never knew before how important it was to eat fiber, and wholesome, nutritious foods. It’s good for me and the rest of my family.
Better health sure feels good! I’ve never liked being sick, that’s not fun at all. I have no more bad symptoms. I feel very well. I am so happy! I am so very grateful. A year ago I was so afraid I was near death and now I feel like an entirely new person, a happy healthy one. 😄😀It’s much better to feel well. I am motivated to stay well as much as possible. Thank you, Dr. Li! ❤

No energy…. Until 6 weeks ago. Gave up processed food , wheat, sugar… started making my own yogurt to culture good probiotics. Sprouting seeds. Feeling better! I think I will get dr Li’s book too

Thanks, I did learn quite a few things today! I did have uterine polyps a few years ago which I had removed surgically, but initially thought it was bleeding from the bladder. So with women not always immediately clear what is the origin of the bleeding.

My grandmother had anal bleeding so bad when she walked blood dripped a trail behind her for over 7 yrs and never did anything about it, she kept saying she "was going through the change". She refused to go to see a doctor out of shame and embarrassment because of her obesity. One morning she woke up to a severely high temp. Barely able to walk. Turned out she had colon cancer and it was bad, the cancer had metastasized throughout her entire body according to the doctors. Nothing could be done to save her. She passed quickly after that. My husband had bad gum bleeding which he hid from me for over a year, his platelets were so low the doctors couldn't believe he was still walking, he had multiple myeloma. He passed 5 yrs later. Both were in their 50's.

    Hi Doctor Li,
Enjoy your videos & nutrition teaching. This video talking about colonoscopy is something I know I need to have done. However, I have so much anxiety about a colonoscopy. Years ago after having my gallbladder out, the surgeon asked if I had a lot of constipation as a child. I told him I did. He said my colon had stretched out, so I have a lot of extra bowel. I am so worried about 2 things, one being that my bowel will get punctured during a colonoscopy & second, scared of anesthesia. Can I do the pill that is a camera? I know I need to address but having trouble getting past my fears. Love your education Dr. Li. Thank you for your dedication

My doctor told me she had one and “it wasn’t that bad.”
I wondered as bad as what? What does that even mean?
Once I had mine, my first one last December, I figured it out.
What she probably meant was “not as bad” as you think it will be or as bad as it sounds.
You are sedated. It is a somewhat serious procedure. It was considered like a surgery. But they only go inside and check you out, and they might take scrapings (microscopic) for biopsies.
But the sedation if it goes as it’s supposed to, it’s like it’s over in a flash, and you’re not even aware of anything having happened to you.
I avoided it and didn’t want one for a long time. But now I don’t think of it as such a big deal. It’s a real good screening to have. It’s important to do it, when your doctors tell you to do it. It’s at this time the gold standard in this kind of health screening. It’s worth it too if the news is pretty good, it’s worth it to have that peace of mind. I would do it again without the same level of worry and angst. It’s a good thing to do if you need to, if your doctors suggest it, due to symptoms and age. I recommend it.

Heart disease is the number one killer of people today and cancer is number two.
Being over weight is the number one factor leading to an early death.
People who are over weight have higher risks for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences.
There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese.
What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications.
Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks.
Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods
