An eloquent speaker and obviously a very bright intelligent young man ... Li Shengwu you had a great YeYe whom Singapore is crying .. still and will cry forever more. Never will the world see the likes of another awesome amazing great man and leader like your YeYe. I pray that we Singaporeans will carry on your YeYe's good works. Long Live Singapore!
Well written impressive eulogy Li Shengwu. Thank you my family enjoyed listening to you tremendously. We will cherish and celebrate our late Mr Lee Kuan Yew's life and memories for generations to come.
Shengwu, thank you for sharing about wise ye ye - every insight into his private and public life is a valuable lesson for us. He balanced his life so well and you and your family is proof that status and money is not everything. Proper upbringing and family life are also important building blocks of a nation.
Very well-spoken. Rich vocabulary that epitomises the essence of the late LKY as a history maker and visionary leader. Huge potential for the political arena!
With All Due #Respect, #thankyou And #congratulations For Sharing This Eulogy For Our Late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. May His Soul Rest In #peace 💜💜✌🇸🇬. #Yes #indeed.
Many thanks to the PMO for sharing these personal eulogies. Very hard to watch then without shedding tears again. Shengwu, your yeye must be so proud of you! And to PM Lee and his family, I pray that the Lord grant you strength and peace during this time of grief.
Brave and courageous he phrase it very clearly his private life with his grandfather a man of great value. I pray that Singapore will continue to rise high even our founder father is not in our present. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew good work will always be remember by us. Rip Mr. Lee K Y.
Thank you PM Lee for sharing this eulogy. Grateful for the insights into Mr Lee's private and family life as well as Sheng Wu's sharing his tribute to Mr Lee. Deepest condolences to your whole family.
Everytime we I polish my paperworks, I would go back here and listen to Shengwu's speech one more time. Not only the precision of his use of language, but the overwhelming power behind the words ---- like a heated wave flows through the iced land.
Thank you dear Sheng Wu for a well delivered eulogy for the late LKY. Well spoken and every word was well pronounced. Reminded me of your Grandfather who speaks so well in Malay Mandarin and in English. You make me proud.
Very steady speaker and could control his emotion very well, although we can see from his eyes and facial expression that he is very heart brokened over the lost of a great YeYe.
Well spoken, well written, certain parts of the eulogy may be a bit flowery for the common man....but so so so very obviously from a fine stock.....LKY will be proud
Listening to Sheng Wu's speech again. It really gave us so much insight into Mr Lee's love for his grandchildren. It painted a picture of humility and frugality. It showed us the depth of discussions he must have had with the next generation of Lees that has given them such a keen mind, a developer insight & deep understanding of his true legacy at such a tender age. I would love to hear more sharings and more speeches by the two grandsons. I particularly enjoyed this speech because of the many reminders of what we truly have from Mr Lee Kuan Yew's sacrifice & how he would have us remember him.
I have never heard him speak only when my friends told me about him I have my doubt. Then I decided to search and see and hear for myself. A very Excellent Eulogy for one who is so young. He have a present of mind of his Grandfather hope more people like him for Singapore.
Good delivery from a former Best Speaker at World Universities Debate when he represented Oxford University. We can also hear evidence of his elite education at Balliol College Oxford studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). He stayed on in Oxford to do a Master's in Economics at Keble College. Then he went on to Stanford University for his PhD. He and his younger brother Shaowu studied at Raffles Institution. He is not a government scholar unlike Li Hongyi who is a PSC Overseas Merit Scholar who studied at ACSI and MIT.
A very well build and managed by the man himself. It's a great loss for this proud tiny city state. The nation and it's people stand tall in the arena.
Dear Shengwu, Your eulogy was well thought out, planned and delivered. Singapore’s success story would not be as it is had it not been for your grandfather. In the coming years, our present PM Lee will also have to retire and will this nation will need someone strong with the ‘iron in him’ to govern this island nation. Young Singaporeans like yourself, with your academic achievements and oratorical skills will be needed in the front line of international politics in the coming years ahead to face new challenges and demands. It will take a lot of self-sacrifice, courage and determination to enter politics and continue the work of your grandfather and uncle. You have the lineage and genetically will be like your uncle and grandfather. I strongly urge that you follow in their footsteps. Think about it as Singapore will need people like you to replace the present guards.
He has an uncanny resemblance to LKY. Are seeing a future PM here? The selfsame intelligent articulation of reasoned well chosen words with conviction. No wonder he was the worlds best debater in inter university championships.
Judging by this eulogy, we might have another great leader in the making, if he has the same 'fire' in his belly like his grandfather.....Akan datang. Majullah Singapura!
Wise ye ye abhors monument but he knows the historical significance of his house and has made it clear in public about this. Your uncle, our PM is torn between making your ye ye and your parents happy. He is even willing to sacrifice his son, your cousin to see Singapore through future difficult times. You and your family can trust him as your ye ye's values are ingrained in him.
Like it or not, let LKY genes (this guy is the next kid on the block, though raw) continue in this country leadership, LKY and the country's legacy and achievements will continue into the next 50 years (if Armageddon hasn't come)
I enjoyed this eulogy a lot more when I read it than when I watched him present it. He comes across as pretentious and full of those flowery statements that his yeye particularly disliked. His accent is also confusing and unnatural, a bit like Barbarella trying to put on a fake accent and failing. Listening to the way he pronounced the R in Singapore, my hair stood.
Oh, I strongly disagree. I seriously doubt that a funeral for someone you loved deeply would be the place to be putting on airs. His particular style and/or accent may not jive with you, but I wouldn't accuse him of being pretentious. And I don't think the eulogy was flowery. Every sentence was concise and precise - no unnecessary clutter. He made references to literature and political works that are not immediately accessible to the peanut gallery, but that's not being pretentious....or flowery. He shouldn't have to dumb himself down for anyone. It all sounded very natural to me.
Stanley Gogol so agree, that he shouldn't have to dumb himself down for anyone. that's his style. nothing wrong with it. there's just so much negativity in the world............
That's because it was meant for the masses and was only "closed" in the sense that uninvited guests couldn't attend in person. How else do you think people like you and me would be viewing this on RUclips? When you come from a political family, very few things are truly closed. Also, LKY was probably not a typical grandfather, and Shengwu was probably not a typical grandson. Like it or not, his place in politics would necessarily have impacted his grandkids, especially this one. Ironically...it is BECAUSE this eulogy is somewhat political in nature that it is probably a more authentic representation of the relationship between the two. And my guess is that that relationship was probably a LOT more intellectual, possibly a little bit political too, than the average grandfather-grandson one. If he had only chosen to share cute, fuzzy stories about him and LKY practicing baseball or watching sports together, it wouldn't capture the full scope of what he meant to him. Not that any eulogy can.... If it sounds like it was meant for the masses, then that's a byproduct of him being authentic. And to relay what his grandfather did for Singapore IS to cherish his memory. He stated clearly, "We can no more forget him than we can forget the sky." Shengwu is a grown man, not a boy. He can do better than to remember his grandfather with family stories alone. He pondered his impact on a nation and the world, and was comfortable sharing that with anyone with internet access. What could be more honorable than that?
TK B this kind of CV is VERY COMMON these days? i don't know who you are but no this kind of CV is not at all common. and trust me i've seen a lot of CVs from top tier students in singapore. i'm not saying he should join politics. i'm just TOTALLY DISAGREEING with your hyperbolic assertion that his CV is 'very common' in today's society. no. not everyone is a top PPE student from oxford. nor is everyone a top debater. nor is everyone a PhD candidate at stanford.
TK B I think Singapore should be opened to both Asian and Western ideas. LKY was educated at Cambridge and he did exceptionally well dealing with the colonial government as a result. US is one of the most advance & powerful country in the world - we should send our best and brightest to study there so that we know how to work with them.
His pronunciation is excellent. It would be great if Singaporeans emulate his accent instead of holding onto the so-called Singaporean accent which 'confers national identity.'
1. Do remember that our colonial master was the British and not the French. It was a more liberal state then while Singapore was seeking for independence. Be thankful! And Hey! Please study history of Vietnam. 2. In fact, there was a lot more bloodshed in the history of running administrative meritocracy if you were to read history, especially in China. Be thankful, the truth was the plan had worked as it had the cooperation of the whole generation of Chinese educated people and other races and they had spared us from the bloodshed and it was not just due to the planner himself. In RI, is it the students who are capable and very intelligent or is it only the teacher that is capable and intelligent? 3. Singapire's development from a third world to a developed country using administrative meritocracy is not a miracle, look at South Korea and China, they did it less than thirty years and China is fast surpassing Singapore in many areas.
He was reading a prepared speech. He was not that dynamic as commentators would like to think so. And he comes from a from a wealthy and privileged family. You, too, can do better than he does if you have the will to excel.
Beautiful speech, it brought tears to my eyes, I'm certain the late PM Lee will be very proud of his grand children.

Well spoken, what a bright young man... thank you Sheng Wu

Watching this during coronavirus lockdown really give me the strength and confidence.

He's gifted in the written word, literature, poems and stuff like that too
traderl303 Its expected someone from Oxford and Stanford. Don't think we can expect he speaks Singlish ?

Beautifully said. Thanks for sharing. Majulah Singapura.
Every word of his eulogy is crisp, precise and succinct. Really don't sound like a Singaporean at all.
Eloquent speaker and hopefully a good leader !!
Beautiful, poetic, with love and with respect!
This grandson of LKY speaks fantastic English. He can be the future leader of Singapore if he wants to.
A very well build and managed by the man himself. It's a great loss for this proud tiny city state. The nation and it's people stand tall in the arena.
what a lovely speech. he rly is something
Singapore public servant needs more young people like him...
Majulah Singapura! May your family continue to be the light of Singapore!

Heap praises on your eulogy. You are endowed with talents to be our politician.
He has an uncanny resemblance to LKY. Are seeing a future PM here? The selfsame intelligent articulation of reasoned well chosen words with conviction. No wonder he was the worlds best debater in inter university championships.
Stirring eulogy. Ye Ye and Nai Nai would be proud.
Very well spoken!! His yeye is very proud
果然是李家风范!李家的家风教育真是太棒了,很赞的孩子!望这些孩子都好好成长,有朝一日肩负国家责任,为民造福。
Judging by this eulogy, we might have another great leader in the making, if he has the same 'fire' in his belly like his grandfather.....Akan datang. Majullah Singapura!
***** You are spot ON !! He has LKY' DNA. Hope he join politics one day.
Grandfather LKY would be very proud!

We are watching the World's best speaker on 2010.
Dimas Aditya Hanandito (and I just found this comment! hahhahaha)
The World's best speaker. What more can I say.
8:40 until ends ...full of tears 😭
Like it or not, let LKY genes (this guy is the next kid on the block, though raw) continue in this country leadership, LKY and the country's legacy and achievements will continue into the next 50 years (if Armageddon hasn't come)
listening to this and and lee hsien yang's eulogy and realised... they sound almost exactly the same.
Good orator, inspiring speech, dun know got Ah Gong's fire & tenacity not to be bullied or cowed down down by bigger countries or not?
Ah Gong is one and only. Even I think Movie Star Bruce Lee zapped his body language in 1963 Malaysia for Malaysian Powerful speech.
You are watching our future prime minister!
our future prime minister looks and sound intelligent.
👍 Thank you.
一个小孩可以说的那么好! 赞! 👍👍👍👏👏👏
ShengWu for PM!
Beautifully wrought
“like a fever dream chased away by the morning light.”
Wow so amazed! How British he was
Awesome eulogy👍
It's a really great speech but I can't help but think it's quite sad he lost all of his Singapore accent unlike Hao Yi
That's a good thing, seriously.
...sadly his grandson is nothing like his grandfather.
U're capable of leading the people's Republic of SGP...!!!🫡😉
Your grandpa is intelligent man care an loved spore .
Ahha ! Hope he is our future.

Boy, I want to go to Boston, get to know him and marry him!!!
He is good..
Looking at his CV at stanford....hope he joins politics too~
This kind of CV is actually very common in today's society.
Most quotes are western philosophy, unlike his grandfather's confucius philosophy. Hope he not join singapore politics. After all we are asian.
