Hey Hayden! Mark here NZ ZL2SSM,I have just downloaded the SDR-Control App onto my iPad,and wow works just as you said, i am running my IC-705 on WiFi and all be connecting my IC 9700 and IC 7610 in the Shack with a LAN cable tomorrow. Thank You so much for your easy to-step by step tutorial on getting the radio aligned with the WiFi, awesome! Thanks Hayden
I thought this was too good to be true when I ran across it on Facebook. But I finally gave in some weeks back and got it for iPad and Mac. They are absolutely worth the money!
I just got this app for my iPad and my ICOM 7610…once I went through some learn and really read Marcus’ manual, which is excellent. It works GREAT! I know he will make some adds…. IT WORKS!!! Plus Marcus has been available via email and responds almost immediately!
Nice walkthrough Hayden! I'm really excited for this app, great to see some great development of a full featured alternative to RS-BA1. I can't wait to use this in the field this summer!
I'd like you to follow up your excellent video with demonstration of configuration and use of the app + 705 in Access Point connection between iPad and iPhone or other mobile device, as one would use in the field/POTA/SOTA.
Thanks for the excellent video. One note re: the 7610. That radio is only partially addressed by the SDR-Control software and negates the advantages of the 7610 over the 705 and 9700. Use of Dual Watch and both waterfalls will render the app pretty useless. Twin waterfalls are not addressed in the app, at least not in the Mac app. There is also no ability to select from the 3 Data Ports as it defaults to Data Port 1 already in use by my digital software. As a 705 and 9700 app, it looks ready to go.
Hayden, I really enjoyed the video, it was quite well done. That app is very cool, if it supported the IC-7300 I would definitely be using it. That would mean I would have to get an iPad too. HiHi...
Nice video. It looks great. So could this be used in the field say for POTA activations on FT8? I would still use my field antenna and I’m assuming tether to my phone to access Wi-Fi? Thanks very much.
Hi Hayden, thanks for the great walk through... I have a question here. Can we connect the software to the IC-705 without connecting to our WiFi router? In other word, can we connect the software directly to IC-705 with the WiFi connection so that we can use it during POTA.
Yes you can I believe, you can use the Access Point function in the 705 and connect your iPad to that directly. I haven't tested it yet - maybe a video to make
@@HamRadioDX maybe you can help to try that. If it works, I will 100% buy a IC-705 + SDR Control. Bring a laptop with extra weight is always a concern for me... An iPad is really something that solve most of the problem...
App looks great. Have you set up for access over internet. When isp introduced cgnat in NZ it mucked up our security camera access and guessing it would make problems for this too?
Wow, thanks for the video. Just to confirm, you only need the iPad and the IC-705 (and of course the antenna and power source) and a local WiFi signal. What about operating from a park or place without WiFi?
Hey Hayden, is there a better way to center the ft8 section of the waterfall? I can’t seem to move mine off the far right without changing the frequency
I haven't found a way yet no. As you probably saw in the video, when I try to move the waterfall it moves the frequency. There might be something on the manual, but I haven't come across it yet
I purchased the app and it worked great with you helpful video. I wonder can this be used away from my home? Do I need to port forward like the ICOM software for the PC? Thank You for you videos! K8OCN
Thx for the video demo.. I also saw this last week on the ic705 FB post.. I need to upgrade my IPad and will use this.. I want to leave the radio at home and be able to remote into the station via cell data service when I’m away from home.. I look forward to your video demonstrating that option.. thx again.. k0klb
@@HamRadioDX That would be great, I'm interested in the app but I'm not sure how it would perform via my home 25 Mbps VDSL NBN connection / 4G Telstra iPhone. I suspect the scope would lag.
Hello and thanks. I’m having difficulty connecting the app to either my 705 or my 9700. I noticed that, when I go to the access point menu on either radio, the IP address changes each time I restart the radio? I assume this is because it has a ‘dynamic’ as opposed to a ‘static’ IP address? In any event, the app says it can’t connect in either case. Any suggestions?
Hi Kevin, yeah most likely the case with the static vs dynamic IP. If you can statically set it in your radio that would work best. Do you have any other type of firewall blocking the app from connecting? Perhaps also make sure the app has permission to access your network in the iPad settings. You could try direct connecting to your iPad to the 705 in AP mode
@@HamRadioDX It looked like you were just running the radio from the other room, not somewhere away from the house (and therefore over the Internet where the FTTH might apply)
@@johnantonuk8047 that’s correct, however the 705 only has two settings, ADSL/CATV or FTTH. If you’re just running over WiFi on your local network then selecting FTTH is appropriate. ADSL may work better over lower bandwidth connections
I got this running on my iPad at home with no problem. I’d like to run it in the field perhaps by using a a portable router. Have you tied to run it away from your home network? BTW for those who don’t have an iPad, in addition to the Icom software, I’ve had some success with WfView.
Have you tried remoting in while away from your home network? I played with it just briefly, but haven’t had luck connecting with my 705 on my home network and my iPad being able to connect while away. N7CCD
I am late to the party (I didn't see a notification for this video a while back) Interesting software. It looks like something I would like for my 705, but the price is now up to $49.99 US. A little steep, but I just might take the plunge to see what it can do and if it will work for me. Have a great day
Hi Hayden, was wondering who else was going to jump on this app, I’m in the apple ecosystem and a newbie to ham radio. Just recently bought a surface to have this type of remote function and what a nightmare for me using windows, nothing is ever straight forward with it🥴. Then two weeks ago this sdr app came out and it was a great sigh of relief for me. Now to sell the surface!
Haha nice one Chris! Yeah my laptop is a bit of a pain to have to set up all the time, now it’s real easy to just whip the iPad out and work some contacts from the lounge!
@@HamRadioDX I've just got back into Ham Radio after a long absence. The first, and last, HF rig I had was an FT707 in the early 1980's. Thanks and a happy 2024, which you've been in for quite a few hours.

No problem!
Wow ! Looks excellent. I bought it to use with my 705. Pity about the 7300.
I use it on my 7300.
I’m guessing you just do it on your PC via USB?
LOVE IT! Downloaded today, setup against IC-705 and had 16 QSO's with FT8 all within 2 hours.
Nice work mate!
Hayden another excellent review and how to! I may have to get this just to play with looks like a nice app. 73 Mate!

Just make sure it runs iOS 15!
@@HamRadioDX yeah, they got me twice?

Yea, I can't get SDR-Control on my Mac to connect via wifi to the 705. It connects ok via USB, but then I get no audio output on the Mac. Any ideas?
should make it available for the IC-R8600 also

Can you use an actual cw key connected to the ipad or do you have to use the keyboard?

yup, Starlink same problem

How do you key up on the iPad
There is a PTT button in the software
Great Video - got it working. Very excited to use this on Field Day! Question do they make a actual microphone for the iPad?
Great review Hayden!
Thanks Jim!
How cool is that?? nice info.
Thanks! Yes it's the best looking app for Icom control that I have seen
It looks like you are TX on the RX freq. In FT8 that's a rather bad idea! Please always use split. I hope that is possible in the app?
Ciao sembra un ottima App... potresti compilarla anche per android?
Could you get the app to work with the RS-BA1 server connected to a 7300?
No the 7300 is unsupported along with other radios that connect via USB
Not rsba1 but wfview you can

50002
50003
