Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

Happened met one 3 years ago, said she's a young Korean gal, resisting her oppressive family end up on the street of Cali. But soon got captured by her father, sent directly back to S.Korea. A normal person now. The street "asians" you would see, mostly are Ameridians (American-Indians), a lot of them look like E-Asians especially the Eskimos, Some Mexicans also strangely look similar to E-Asians

In Papua New Guinea there are no homeless people like in the USA, but crime is very high. Life in the capital Port Moresby is very dangerous and you have a big problem with street gangs. There are also witch murders like in Europe 500 years ago.

There’s one thing when I raised my children, I fear the most if they get involved with drugs and alcohol, I tried my hardest to show them that I don’t drink and no drugs. I even started exercise to show them to live a healthy life. But peer pressure is even challenging. Thank goodness they both do the right thing, I feel relieved and I can breathe now. People are from all different walk of life. I really wish them a better future someday.

The saddest thing was that there was a time where they were born happy and living normal under a roof. But each one of these people have a story which reach their downfall. Their emotions felt like they were ignored and don’t get the love by someone they used to know. They forget about them by drugs. They weren’t born in this world because they are bad. They were born into a unfit life experiences they witness. And hopefully all of them can recover and find their happiness as it’s truly inspiring than being born rich.
Not all of these people were born under a happy home. Some were beat, raped, etc.
Many of these kids probably also from households forced to work themselves into a burnout for a minimal wage.
Even though drug use is also rampant in well to do families , somewhere there has to be a reason why people seek refuge in total oblivion.
Are you kidding me? Biden will spend billions to make the deadliest bombs to murder innocent civilians of another country rather than look after its own people. I believe one less nuclear head long-distance missile will be enough to put resources to START to alleviate this ongoing American unnecessary and avoidable dilemma.

When I was an addict I have did many hideous crimes lying to my family and friend's for money by making stories... stealing from family and from friends and from other places etc... robbing innocent people I hate that life I hate it so much and I hate myself too... but now I am sober and trying to make things right again

There's a library in this needle park where the librarian keeps a supply of Narcan and has used it numerous times to save the lives of OD addicts. Bless these civil servants but shame on you city of Philly for permitting this disgraceful mess to continue for many years.

I've had addicts around me, my whole life. Some got clean. Eventually all will quit. Had a sibling OD by the time i was 10, told myself that i would never do that to those i love. 60+ now, have never done alcohol, cigs or drugs. Life is choices and choices have consequences.

Homelessness and addiction are consistantly overtaking many cities and small towns nationwide. We are slowly becoming a third-world nation. The “American dream” is an illusion unfeasable to a growing number of Americans. It’s a true tragedy.
We really need to pray for all of these people, others, and this country. Love and compassion is the only way to fix this.

Amazing and heart breaking! Alcohol was my drug of choice and I stopped that 13 years ago. Now I work with others who are dealing with addiction and trying to give them a place to turn as they are working towards becoming sober, this to can be heart breaking but I keep at it. This last summer one of my best friends and I only have 3 real friends, he was fighting alcohol abuse and one night his wife told him he needs to back into treatment, He went upstairs and I was a pallbearer at his funeral the next week. It hurts to even talk about it!

All of the troubled people in Kensington receive monthly payments from the Pennsylvania State government, usually around US$1,500 per month. There are government social services workers in the area, a few thousands full-time workers. Additionally there are private charity agencies there. Most all of these people are mentally ill compounded by drug addiction. You can't force anyone to seek help for mental illness. There an odd situation where these people are mentally competent enough to be on their own and make their own decisions in life and at the same time they are really unable to participate in society. Additional money won't cure this, additional police won't change this - it's a problem with no practical solution.

Unfortunately here in greater Phoenix area in Arizona we have many streets and intersections becoming like that. More and more young people are turning to drugs and other opioid, prostitution and homelessness. It is getting very scary.

Sometimes there are. A LOT is happening we aren't seeing. I have met a lot of Addicts. One named Julie was ran over over 20 dollars. I forget her last name. I can find it though. Poor girl.
The dealers should also offer "heroin horns" for those they sell to, ....for safety reasons, .....maybe heroin helmut too eh ?

It appears that they have neither the desire or resources to even begin to deal with this horrible situation.
It seems like the city has given up on the people who have given up on themselves.
I have heard that the city allows this drug community on Kensington and doesn't bother them so that they STAY there in the Kenington area and do NOT spread into "nicer" areas.
A sad lack of education. These films should be shown in all Schools while the the pupils are young, So what if it causes up set. Must be better than living that life and be one of the over 80000 dead due to drug overdose

I think a lot of this drug use started on College campus and some ppl never found their way back home.

There are countries that give death sentence for doing drugs, and they will never have problem like this. That's what we need, not praying
