918 is a masterpiece. The greatest car that has ever been made, look at the in depth reviews of this art. Btw it's faster than the P1 at various circuit tracks like Dubai, Laguna Seca, and the famous Nurburging. The P1 is an amazing car well, better looking imo.
the 918 isn't faster than the P1 around silver stone or brands hatch. The main reason why the 918 is better at 1/4 - 1/2 mile drag races is because of its 4WD system so it pulls away faster. But the P1 soon catches up and over takes as seen in the 1 mile drag race.

Porsche there is no substitute, the 918 is also the Fastest production car in the world to do the Nurburgring beating easily the LFA and the Nissan GTR, as well as the P1 and the La Fag , Plus its as economical to run as my wifes Citroen. Its a Marvel :)

Ryan - Not necessarily better for the P1 in the rolling start in this hot weather as Porsche is least suffered by hot weather due to electric power assist. It is less affected by the weather whereas the P1 is affected by it.

it wouldn't have mattered even if he would have been on the ball, being the 918 is AWD. most races can be won at launch from a dig. and being that you can get a lot of the power down in a AWD car vs a RWD car has to try its hardest to get just a fraction of the power down or risk breaking traction until a certain point. by the time the P1 could start putting power down the 918 would have been too far down the track to overtake.

For example, a 720S usually has a slower 0-60 than a lot of the super car giants it faces, but the turbo chargers gain boost and increase power. Generally this allows for the 720S to creep back into the lead and accelerate much harder than other cars after 60mph is achieved. Under optimal road conditions this can be achieved. With the proper road conditions and engaging launch control correctly, you can minimize slip even in a rwd car. The tires that you use also matter. I've seen a 1000+ horsepower hellcat run Mickey's and it had many other mods done to suspension etc, but it barely ever slipped on launch. The Demon in drag mode with the drag kit can flawlessly launch as well with minimal slip thanks to its drag transmission. It just depends on how your car is configured to be honest.

I've got a question. Why all cars in America have orange front indicator lights while the same models in Europe are produced with transparent? In this one though, many components are painted orange for example brake calipers, bumper and side skirts finish lines etc.

The Porsche 918 won not due to a delayed reaction by the P1 driver, but due to the fact it accerlerates quicker cause it has 4WD. As you saw though the P1 generates more downforce, thus it was doing 173MPH and the 918 172MPH and if they would have keep going the P1 would have eventually passed the 918 as its moving faster than the 918, because of its weight to drag coefficient and its simply putting the power down better.

I wonder what is the cost it takes for Porsche and McLaren to produce their supercars? Making 1,000hp is not too difficult for after market companies, so I wonder how much of the $1million asking price for the cars is profit for McLaren and Porsche???
A lot of the cost doesn't necessarily comes from the materials and engines. Yes a part of it surely does, but it's more the price of the thousands of engineers who worked on the design and aerodynamic figures of the cars that were expensive. When taking that cost into account, plus the base cost of the car's manufacturing. they know how many they really have a chance of selling at multiple price points. By limiting the total number that would be produced, they also forced a ''rarity'' symbol onto the car, which meant they could raise the price and expect richer people who wanted to show how much money they have to want one. At $300'000, they would have to sell so many more to cover the cost of the design plus the cost of the manufacturing (Which probably comes around the 150'000 to 200'000 for both, because of the materials used and the perfection both MUST have before they leave the factory), that it would loose it's real rarity and special symbol, which then might hurt the brand itself. I'm not saying it's justified to sell any car at over a million dollars, because it's unnecessary, but at the same time, people who buy these cars don't do it out of necessity, so companies like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, Pagani and McLaren play on that.

The quality has elevated over the years as owners demand a car that is not only exclusive but also reliable. All of that just be 'exclusive'.

I hate to tell you, guy… your trap speed was a mile per hour faster because you spun off the line. The 918 is hands down faster due to its traction and ability to put all the power to the ground. Had the P1 been wearing stickier shoes, the trap speed would likely be 10 mph or more slower than the 918.
changing the tire pressure will help, but what would really help is a cutting a better ET..watch it slowly as the 918 pulls out way ahead of the P1..that car can hit 60mph in 2.2 sec..why give it the hit as well.

aftermarket companies make 1000 hp with higher fule cost and less smooth power delivery and not as reliable as stock 1000hp
