One thing I learned about the gold Nobel Prize is that in the lead up to WWII, one Noble Prize for Chemistry winner in Germany heard that the Nazi's were confiscating everyone's gold. So what he did was dissolved his medal in Aqua Regia, or hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, becoming a nice bright yellow liquid in the beaker that he put on his shelf. When the Nazi's came, they never found it, and never knew it was liquid gold. When the Nazi's were defeated, the Nobel Prize winner simply put sodium metabisulfate in the solution to drop or precipitate the gold back into brown sludge. One quick melt later and it was a gold bar again. He took it to the Nobel committee and they recast that gold back into the famous medallion. At least that is the story, and I don't know if it is absolutely true, but I still found it fascinating. Don't mess with a chemist's gold! 🤣

I’m glad all these other people in the world have a infatuation with this stuff because as my father always said it out bread & butter on the table. All the gold & silver won’t do you any good when you are starving. A good example of this is , if you don’t know is Afghanistan. Afghanistan- Taliban are sitting on a estimated 15 trillion dollars worth of metals of all kinds but it’s a check they cannot cash. All of it is underground. There is no infrastructure to support the mines that are none to get the ore out to ships to take it somewhere in the world to be processed into useful metals for industry, etc. Just to get 1 underground mine up and running takes 5 years and 5 billon dollar investment to get it running. Then you need qualified workers, you need a transportation system and all this runs around the clock 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Even if for some reason the political climate changed in Afghanistan, it would take a minimum of ten years of work and at least 1 trillion dollar investment before one dollar of payback came out of the ground. So the next time you see something on the news about Afghanistan just remember they the Taliban are sitting on a 15 trillion dollar check that they cannot cash. I worked for a tree service in Snow Camp N.C. and one of the employees told me he has the first mine in America on his property. I of course didn't believe what he was telling me, even though I went to his property and seen what appeared to be a mine that had collapsed about 10 feet from the entrance. Over the next week I researched what he told me, and as it turned out, it was all true! And to see this video brings back memories.
I go out regularly panning in different streams and rivers here in NC and bring buckets of the material home to pan and sluce in my shop, I'm actually just finishing up a sluce that I made as we speak and panning some material. Great show by the way.

“Fine gold” means pure gold (ie 999, or 9999 etc), it has nothing to do with with whether it’s a powder or not!
