Different topic altogether. Your videos are outstanding and heads and shoulders better than 99% of the other RUclips shave videos IMHO for the following reasons:
    1. Your ego never appears,
    2. You like teaching others,
    3. You never try to be “cute,”
    4. Your opinions are clearly stated as such,
    5. You appear comfortable in your own skin,
    6. You provide meaningful information in a very matter-of-fact way.
    7. You are skilled and informed in your topics.
I think you are the perfect guy to do a series exploring and explaining why different razors and blades are such personal choices. I’m sick of reading and hearing “YMMV” as a cop-out - it’s some kind of bastardized legal lingo (yes, I’m a lawyer). You’re the perfect guy to dig into blade and razor geometry and design and to explain why there are so many variables in the equation. Just a thought!

For me, the Envoy has a very prominent blade exposure and has a lot of blade feel. With my skin type, it is an aggressive razor and I tried a lot of blades in it, but very few worked for my shave with the Envoy to produce a shave without irritation due to the blade gap and exposure (even with the lightest swipes). Meanwhile, the Rockwell 6S (and 6C) delivers great shaves for me (I'm a Plate #3 / R3 guy) and I never have to worry too much about blade feel or a harsh shave. After trying so many times with the Envoy, I had to give it up and it's just not for me...but it is a quality product and well-crafted.

Most people who own both the 6C and 6S say the 6C offers a smoother shave due to the finish. It’s half the price of the 6S so that makes for an easy decision. The Rex has the best aesthetics of any razor in my opinion. I read complaints about all Rex razors (not the Konsul) being a bit too aggressive though. I never encounter that complaint regarding the Rockwells. I’d love to try both some day. I’ve learned that people’s opinions regarding razors are so subjective. The Merkur 34C, for example, hasn’t impressed me as it requires too many passes to remove stubble. Yet, people parrot the same 34C recommendation like it’s magic. The grip is even too short to my liking.

6c definitely has less drag. The Envoy is in a different class in my opinion. The metal in the head of the Chinese 6C is more fragile though. Not going to last a lifetime. It will last a long time though. Mine is a year old and looks new. I do rotate my razors though. I like having choices for different aggression. Days I skip sometimes. 6C is a daily with a 5 plate most of the time but I love my new Parker open comb variant. So smooth and choices with aggression. I know it's fun collecting razors. Soaps too.

I am a fan of this guy he tells the truth !
My process: melt a Neutrogena gold bar ,pour into a stainless shaving bowl let it go solid that is good for a year ,use brush put lather on ,it doesn't take a bunch of foam it is only what is on top of your skin that matters ,shave with double edge of your choice ,I use one edge first then second edge to go over it again , wipe off with water ,then apply a couple of drops to your hands of Jason vitamin E oil wipe your face with it (1 bottle will last over a year ) DONE ! i CAN'T STOP AND GO BACK TO THROW AWAY RAZORS .
Shave all year and get a superior shave for under 50 bucks . the next year will cost you under 20 . Razors are so cheep you can use a new one every time .and still be ahead .

My top 3. Rockwell 6C. Razorock Lupo 95. Parker Open Comb Variant. 2 of the three from your recommendation. Thank you for what you do. Honorable mention. Leaf Twig with a Sharp Durablade. Try those blades sometime. I like Virginia Persona too. Another of your recommendations. I try really hard to buy American but its hard in the Wet Shaving world. I hope it reverts to the 60's popularity and most things would be made here and built to the quality we use to have. Now on the other hand the Rex is and is the utmost in quality. Rockwell 6S is also. Unquestionable quality as well. Enjoy your shows and love my rekindling of the wet shave after so many years away.

I have used pre-shave oil in the past with very mixed results. I find it actually interferes with the lathering process. After much research on YT, I came across a video that talked about how effective CREMO is as a pre-shave. I decided to give it a try as it's widely available at big box stores and pharmacies. Well to my surprise, it works beautifully. As an experiment, I used my high-end shave soap on one side of my face without any pre-shave. On the other side of my face, I used CREMO along with my same soap. The CREMO side was definitely slicker than the side without the pre-shave. The secret to using CREMO as a pre-shave is to apply it first and add water so it's practically dripping off your face. Then you apply your favourite shave soap. CREMO is now part of my shaving routine and I wouldn't have it any other way.

About twelve minutes in, you were discussing lathering methods with a bowl and face, but what you say and mean is not exactly clear. Some people might want that clarified; but in any case, one CAN use a bowl for a FACE LATHER. That is what I have been doing for some two years now. The main way it works is that you first load the brush with the bit of flattened soap at the bottom of the bowl, and then you add only enough water to make a paste. THEN you brush some of this paste onto your face, and continue adding the more water to that.

My rockwell truly has been rocking thanks to your advise and techniques. I instinctively connected strongly to the rex envoy the first time I saw it online. It's looks are super, but the handle could have been just a bit longer. Watching you use both, it was obvious that they are both super shavers, effortless and efficient, and the razor burn on your lower neck from the envoy tells me that it's size can prompt one to add unnecessary pressure which is probably what you did. Definitely I shall get a rex envoy😊 soon because of the superb quality it exude, in addition to it's very efficient mid aggressive performance. The Rockwell to me is awesome, and one of the greatest razors on earth, giving very calm shaves anytime.

    Greetings Ohio Shave,
I just came across your channel, and watched a couple videos. I think you’re doing a fine job.
I started using a DE razor about 8 months ago. Choosing a razor was difficult- so many options. But the prices made it more difficult because I can’t just buy several razors to decide which one is right for me because I’m retired and living on a teacher’s pension. Fortunately, I found the Rockwell 6S and got it on sale with an entire kit - soap, brush, oil, after shave. It was an offer too good to pass up! And I’m glad I got it. Great quality razor with the ability to adjust by switching base plates. I later got a Henson + on sale. It’s really good. But the 6S is my razor of choice.

I’ve adopted the exact pre-shave products and routine you taught me - they do make a difference! Much to my surprise, the Rockwell produced a better result with more comfort than the Konsul. Both were BBS shaves with the Rockwell being far more comfortable and close and the alum block never lies. Neck area with the Konsul had a lot more “feedback” even though I used an Astra SP in the Konsul and a Voskhod in the 6C. The Konsul just got retired by the Rockwell!

The Rex has a slightly higher blade gap than the R4 plate, but I'm guessing it's short handle makes it more agressive?

It has a positive blade exposure. Whereas the Rockwell has a neutral blade exposure.

Thank you for posting this video. I am thinking about the Rex Supply Company razors, but the Rockwell 6S is quite interesting too. You make good points about the presence of blade tabs. I had not thought about those. You seem to be using the Envoy in the "Standard" finish. I wonder if an optional finish would improve a shave? For example would a rhodium finish offer a better shave than the Standard finish, or a "Polish only" finish?

@@OhioShaves I'd like to let you know that I decided to send a rather old gold-look Gillette Tech Ball End razor to Razor Emporium for their revamp service. I decided to have the razor re-plated in rhodium. Part of my motivation was to honor the family member who gave me that razor a few years ago. I have been shaving with the rhodium finish razor several times now and I am not certain if the plating makes a helpful difference to my shave experience. It is hard to say. Those old Tech razors were on the lightweight side anyhow, and have short handles. Weight about 59 grams. I always get irritation when I shave my neck area with a Tech (including with the "revamped" razor.) So I still can't positively say if rhodium improves my shave experience. It certainly looks great, however! The shine is such a wonderful change from the original, un-revamped razor, which showed many decades of use. I'm interested in buying a high end razor and I keep coming back to the Rex Supply Company products. If I do buy one from them I will have the new razor "upgraded" to rhodium finish as a major splurge on myself. As an aside, I like the Simpson brush you are using.

@@robertcochran7103 Matt uses a positive blade field on all of his razors he has introduced. That positive blade exposure is what dictates how smooth and comfortable that shave will be. A neutral blade feel gives you a smooth shave without losing any ability of removing hair from your face or skin for that matter. Rockwell razors have a neutral blade that makes for a smooth comfortable, shave, no matter what plate you're using as long as the razor blade is sharpen enough for that plate. That being said, I haven't found a razor blade that does not work in this safety razor. I can always find a blade to match a plate I just have to play around with it a little bit. Yes, when I started to watch it, I got confused and thought the Ambassador was a 3-piece adjustable. Also, he calls the Rockwell the 6c a few times, too. He obviously has good video tech skills, so it shouldn't be hard to put some text on the screen correcting these errors when they are said -- I've seen others do it.
Also, "Personna" should be pronounced with a short "o", not a long "o". It should sound different than "persona."

I'm curious about using an after shave splash AND balm. I can see using one or the other by why both? Those splashes have a tendency to have alcohol in it and have seen videos recommending against using anything with alcohol after your shave as it dries your skin.
