- No. 1 UConn plays No. 2 Baylor in the Elite Eight of the 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Huskies used a giant second-half rally to come back and take down the Lady Bears 69-67. A 19-0 UConn run was the difference, which came after Baylor senior guard Didi Richards left the game with a left leg injury in the third quarter.
The Bears nearly mounted a comeback of their own, falling just short in the final moments as the Huskies held on to advance to their 13th Final Four in a row.

What a battle of the heavyweight
I love basketball
What a shame that the two best teams in the tournament had to meet in the elite eight.
Blame The Seeders
Exactly. Complete bull shit by the committee.
Did you forget about Stanford?
@@camtime1602 No, and of course you could make the argument for them as well. My top three teams are UConn, Baylor, Stanford. They are all fairly even talent-wise, and they are (were) all legitimate contenders for the national title.
Stanford was my #1 or #2 team going into the tournament, but I have been more impressed with UConn and Baylor since it started.
@@Sternentier I disagree but I respect your opinion. Imo Stanford is better than Baylor and UConn, but I think Baylor would have a good chance at beating Stanford because of how lengthy and physical they are. These are the best three teams in the tournament tho.
Paige Bueckers is the real deal
PB #5 the best.
For being a freshman, she's only gonna get better.
Gonna get drafted by the Orlando Magic
Rosé will file a Libel Case for you.
I’ve seen her since high school
Man that game had me on the edge of my seat! What a game. I saw some comments about the hair, lashes and makeup. I just want to say I feel like it's great representation. I was watching the game with my little niece and the first thing that caught her attention and made her sit and watch with me was the beautiful hair of some of the players. Then she saw how good the game was. I think it was a liberating thought to her that you can look how you want and still play your sport and play it well too. Now she's thinking of trying out at school. I love it!
Apparently fake eyelashes and braided hair doesn’t make you a better player.
@@michaelwall2304 apparently it doesn’t make you play at any less of a level than the competition. Are you remedial?
My Daughter played Aau and played on 2 championship High School teams. Most fun I ever had.
Definitely a missed call at the end, but let's not let it take away from how good this game was.
Y’all really complaining bout a no call that lost you the game? Y’all gave up a 19-0 run...THAT lost you the game
People are talking about the last foul, but the WHOLE game the refs weren’t calling shit. Especially against Uconn
They had been instructed by the gangsters who paid them off to make sure that UConn won. Lots of gambling money on the line.
@@ronnieguitar99 they weren't trying to help Uconn when they were down 10 and missing other calls so I don't know where that line of thought comes from
Didi Richards injury was the turning point of the game
Yes It was
True
UConn deserved the W. They were getting fouled the entire 4th quarter with no calls. If you’re going to let it be a physical game, it needs to be for both teams.
? Stop the BS. UCONN won, you don't hsve to lie now. That last play was a foul. Everybody knows it.
More like missed calls the whole game
@@MAlley-fm4et and you can go back and watch about 6 Baylor fouls that weren't called in the first half alone.
@@MAlley-fm4et YES, But THE WHOLE GAME fouls weren’t being called. If every foul was correct, UConn would’ve still won.
Yep, officials seemed a bit inept.
Uconn has made all these women step up there games in these last 6 yrs. There dominance before has been good for the game.
I’m a UConn fan but it is a real shame That Richards got hurt I never want to see a player get hurt and that is a really bad injury that I would never wish upon anyone even if I hate the team
Refs are terrible! They don't like calling fouls? Uconn got roughed up and fouled so many times with no calls. No calls for both sides but I believe there were way more no calls in favor of Baylor. Congratulations to Uconn!
Exactly there were numerous no calls on Baylor.
Absolutely the truth. Paige was fouled a few times and the carry call on Evina was ridiculous.
Uconn this was a nail biter 😅
1 or 100...you still win. But I'd rather win by 100.
This more of a nail biter than the 2003 and 2004 championship games between UCONN and TENN!
I know it will be a tough one. Paige really stepped it up and the team . Last defensive stand sealed the game. Stanford and South Carolina look good. It's a matter of heart and hunger and passion.
Yeah but she had zero assists, same with Williams...
Happy they won regardless.

@@melindaflores561 thank you..
The coach have been trying to get Paige to take over games for the longest. And it got them in trouble when they lost to Arkansas. And you can see she have learn her lesson. She still let the play come to her, but the coach have to tell her to release the hounds. Only thing she need now is the theme song from Love and Basketball " I go to work"
Last play should’ve been a foul, but there were numerous fouls not called that game! Baylor had many chances to win even without their point guard. No controversy at all, that’s just sports. U get some calls and sometimes u don’t.
The 19-0 run is what hurt them most of all besides losing their point guard to injury. Can’t blame the refs for either of those.
Well said.
You are right. There were many more calls earlier in the game that went their way and kept that last shot relevant.
Yes, and there were many non fouls that were called as fouls.
All this ^^^ 👍🏼👍🏼. It’s a shame Baylor couldn’t find a way to stop the 19-0 run. More than one way to do that and just couldn’t get it done. Fun game all around. This women’s tourney has been 🔥 and I’m here for it!
Bruh c’mon now. I love UConn but get real 😹
This was a good game. Congrats UConn!
lots of chit chat about that last call which i agree was a foul. so was when dijonai carrington tripped paige bueckers. sometimes you don’t get the call u deserve. baylor was an amazing competitor and i hope we see more of carrington and richards in the wnba bc they are amazing -catedunn
I don’t know how didi can do much in the WNBA UConn was so sagged off on her cause she can’t shoot, seems like a Liability other than defense
The game was full of questionable calls that was just one more. It comes with the territory.
@Christian Caballero I recall during the 2004 Midwest Region in Norman Oklahoma, Baylor went up against Tennessee and Pat Summit, There was a call just like that during the last seconds of the game, it was all tied up and Kim Mulkey begged the Ref not to let the game end on a call like that. Tasha Butts of Tennessee went to the charity stripe and made 2 free throws and in doing so gave Tennessee a 71-69 victory. In that game Kim was against the foul being called this time she wanted it......go figure.
@Christian Caballero What should be perfect? Refs are less likely to call a foul at the end of the game unless it's blatant. The fact that she was surrounded by three players, it was a terrible shot, and she did an acting job, didn't help her.
@@dianeverytall3397 they also gave up a 19-0 run. If they don’t do that they win
Gino had it right. The matchup deserved to be in the final. That injury triggered a 19-0 run by UCONN but Baylor came back from it. I am not going to quibble over the last shot. It seems consistent with the way the refs let them play the whole game. It was a great game.
Look at the points by quarter... they were only slight advantages (BY/UC=24/26-15/11-16/16-12/16). Neither team dominated, less than 4pts difference per quarter. This was pretty much a finals game match-up and could have gone either way. Lots of no-calls, lots of close-calls, but not many 'obvious' bad calls without going over the slow-motion replay to see them. Baylor shot 27% FG in the 4th quater.. UCONN 40%. Baylor has not much of a a 3pt game, so they needed those inside paint shots to land in the 4th to win... and they didn't. Baylor got to the foul line enough times to hold them close, but not enough to compensate for UCONN's 8 @ 3pt shots. 8 of 17 @ 3pts, 47%... just over a third their final point tally... gave UCONN the ability to catch up. Fun to watch, would like to see more like this.
Losing Didi Richards was a big difference.
Well said.
That same girl flopped and got a call, so it evens out
Right?!?! She fell down with no contact and they called that as a foul on Paige. Then she tripped Paige and no foul. Carrington should have been in foul trouble.
Yup, 10:35.

@@mrmillennium2697 We can’t really blame her. If it was you in that situation you probably do the same thing. Who doesn’t want to take the final shot? I do think they foul her at the end as well.
Trying to be the hero
Why the officials didn't call the goul though? I agree with you but those officials in these Tournaments men and women hsve been horrible .
that's my thoughts. it was an impossible shot. I'm even thinking the call could have gone either way. I don't think as others do it was a sure foul. I say this because in the replay the uconn defense had their arms up but did not move them during the shot. The arms created a wall and even if you look closely created a roof. To try to shoot through that was crazy. Which is why she ended up on the floor. Not because she was fouled but because she hit the defensive roof.
When Beckers got mauled and was forced to take a timeout was maybe the most egregious missed call of many. Also when Griffin got slapped across the arm and then she got called for the charge. I'm glad to see the refs didn't ruin the outcome of the game. UCONN got out by the skin of their teeth.
Exactly. It was definitely a foul at the end but Baylor had A LOT of fouls on UConn, that were just as obvious, and they were never called
@@sophiaspaulding1158 Correct, exactly. Baylor got away with murder, hacking the sh-t out of UConn for most of the game so Baylor can't complain about one missed call at the end.
Uconn also got away with essentially slamming carrington to the ground almost every play she drove lmao
@@Xhabit300 you talking about 10:30 where she flopped herself out of bounds lmao
@@Xhabit300 Carrington is an actress, She's as phony as her eyelashes. Pure Kabuki.
Great Win. I hope a quick and speedy recovery to the young lady who got hurt. The sign of a great team...is not blowing teams away by 30 plus...but being down a few...under great and intense pressure...at a very high level of competition...and win a very close game. Could have gone either way...but...the reality...UConn remained calm...and WON. Again...great job...to both teams. Reminds me of 2015 GSW. They managed to win the close ones most of the time.
The young lady is didi
Should that have been called? Probably. Was it called throughout the game? Absolutely not. Baylor, especially #21, was fouling the whole game and it was not called. The refs need to be more consistent.
I agree. Really that’s the main thing. Whether it’s called tight or loose, it needs to be consistent Great game.
Exactly... Where is the controversy? fouls weren't called all game. Paige was tripped at mid court forcing UCONN to use it's last time out which could've been huge. Was it a foul? by the rules probably. Is the officiating in the women's game usually poor, always has been. Did that call decide the game? absolutely not.. 2 free throws have to be made under pressure and Uconn would of have plenty of time to get a game winner.
Carrington was fouling Paige all game. Refs missed about 5 calls on Baylor players. 8:10 heres one.
Everything under 1 minute should be challenged
@@anthonyyusef5897 I had to laugh. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've heard antonelli say, "if a player gets knocked down you have to call a foul" no matter why or how it happened. Didn't hear that from her tonight even once while UConn players were picking themselves up.

That Baylor D was impressive! No coincidence that UConn made their run when Baylor's defensive stopper went down.
Odd. One of UConn's most effective defensive players started the game on a chair and stayed there all game. I don't recall much chatter about how different the game would have been with her in it even though it would have. You lose a player, next one up. The coach makes adjustments or in this case, doesn't make adjustments.
@@ReginaldJKornblow I mean, Baylor was up good when DiDi went out. That was a huge momentum stopper there, and it slowed the game down. Plus, DiDi, who's an experienced player and handled the ball for Baylor was replaced by a freshman who didn't get much playing time this year. So his comment is valid to a point
@@ReginaldJKornblow see that logic applies if you have a good defensive player , arguably the BEST defensive player in the nation goes out & baylor’s defense crumbles , its simple science, you take out the foundation, the whole structure crumbles
Nah, multiple players scored on the run. You call a timeout, change up momentum and defense.
Any D looks good when the opposing offense is composed of chicks! 😂
I wanted Baylor to win. But Huskies were the better team and deserved the victory more than Baylor...highly entertaining game tho!!!
That last foul that wasn't called and you say they were better.
You are FOS...before Didi got hurt UCONN was getting obliterated, and even without the best defensive player in the nation Baylor fought back and had a no call on TWO fouls on the shooter at the end. Not one tap...the officials had no calls on Baylor fouls that were taps...totally true...but grabbing the forearm and smacking the girl upside the head seems like beyond letting them play. She was constantly fouled, it was embarrassing. Baylor and Sc only know one way to play.
Exactly Carrington should have been in foul trouble by the 4th. You can’t expect to get that call for you to win the game when the refs gave you breaks all night. She shouldn’t have tried to get fouled she should have passed the ball. It’s lame that that was the strategy and you had to know the paint would be swarmed. A foul call isn’t guaranteed.

If you want to talk about no-calls, how about at 10:15 in this video when the Baylor girl grabs Bueckers arm going around the screen. Or when UConn was forced to burn a timeout when Baylor tackled Bueckers to the ground. Baylor plays dirty and then cries when they don't get a call.
Tough ending but the bottom line is Baylor only scored 1 basket in the last 5 minutes of the game, can't just rely on getting calls for that long.

Because you’re comparing a game with the two best teams in the tournament to a regular tournament game
I agree - I can’t even pick which layup was the most exciting. It’s amazing to watch layup after layup after layup.
That last "foul" does not get called when you consider that:
1) it was the last shot of the game so if you're calling a foul there it better be pretty obvious
2) neither of the refs close by had a good angle to make that call since they were looking at the players' backs
3) both Edwards and Nelson-Ododa had good vertical position
4) it was blatantly obvious Harrington was looking for a bailout foul and the refs were clearly wise to that.
5) the refs let them play for the entire game, mostly against UConn
That part
Ododa made AT LEAST 3 fouls in the last minute without any whistle! Terrible referee.
this game was insane
The whole media is screaming excuses of a last minute no call (foul).
Let's be real. There were a million (No Calls) foul throughout the whole game. Uconn got beat up the most but kept on playing.
So let's not focus on the one last no call that should have been a no call truthfully like the many others miss against Uconn as well.
But do I need to really argue what was apparent throughout the whole game? Not.

Exacly. If they don’t call bearly anything from the start, why should they call that
Yeah, they let them play the whole game. There were tons of fouls not called on both sides. Given that, it was not surprising they would be reluctant to call that foul in the waning seconds.
As a person that didn't watch the game and see the final shot, I came to the comments to see what people said as it looked like a foul, if they weren't calling it good on them on keeping it consistent

@@FamilyManJ You obviously did not watch the game. They let contact go ALL GAME LONG. UCONN shot only 2 FTs in the entire first half. Think about that for a minute, because it should tell you how lax these refs were. Baylor chose to take advantage of that and played like the were the Pistons in their bad boy days, getting physical with a smaller UCONN team all night. Then when the physicality goes against you, you gonna' whine about it? Please. Wow.. amazing 👍
The referees swallowed the whistle and went blind at same time on that call. Baylor shooter got fouled TWICE!
Russell - Hello! Hey, you know, it always hurts when the last play is controversial and it's the one that sticks in your head the most. Yet, one has to ask themselves, what else happened over that 40 mins of play that had impact enough to make it controversial? And this game is not the only one that fans could take issue with.
I just watched the overtime portion of Mich vs Baylor. DiDi double dribbles - no call. Next to last foul could be argued as a jump ball.
In this game, were one to go back and count the controversial calls, you've find quite a few (And I have no idea who that affected more between the two teams and I don't care but they're there if you care to watch again.)
But probably the biggest contributing factor of Baylor losing was when DiDi went out of the game how did the rest of team respond? And honestly, this is all on the players on the court's fault - they allowed UConn to run 19 straight points. As great as Carrington was over the course of the game, a lot of that fell on the her shoulders turning the ball over 3 times and not involving her teammates hardly at all. After that run, I do not believe that Carrington scored any more points but the rest of the team closed the gap.
So yes, it was a controversial call (glad I didn't have to make or not make the call) but that call was not a one off. Should Baylor have let them run 19 straight points?
Well anyway, you get my point. I've NEVER been a UConn fan, though I have to admit I am a Paige fan and can't wait to see how she plays with Azzi Fudd next year. One of the reasons, sans her height of 5'11" is she doesn't look like a baller. And if she actually does get better (coach says she has areas to work on) all I can say is "wow". Regards,
Great game! I just to see any team lose a key player, and not have the opportunity to finish with all starters. Didi Richards, DEFENSE, went down, momentum shifted. Great game from both teams!
Baylor seemed lost without their girl D towards the end. Baylor’s Dijonai Carrington was fouled at end (refs let it slide). Baylor ran outta time. UConn left room for very little mistakes for their opponents. Don’t worry about missed free throws so much bc they only matter more when other chances fizzled. Overall a good game. Salute to a great season for Baylor.

Wow.............wow..amazing game very competent and interesting game .
UConn with the comeback win and an L for Kim Mulkey ... this might be my favorite combo ever. The 19-0 run is the cherry on top.
One of the best games I've seen this month! That should have been a foul called at the end!
Final four bound!!!!
Carrigton you’ll always be my hero 😭😭

UConn advances to its 13th straight Final Four!!!
Lets go Uconn!!
It's a lot of fun
Olivia Nelson Ododa Congratulations friend I am proud of you
Congrat Uconn
11:35 “he’s good”😂
This could have been the national title game. I know South Carolina and Stanford have something to say about that, but not much separated these teams. I think having a tough, close game might benefit UConn at the Final Four but they were lucky to escape this one; it could have gone either way.
crybaby
Yes
Almost all of the sports talk shows I watched this morning says it was a foul. It definitely tarnishes the win.
#13 Williams on Uconn has serious strength, she’s a solid athlete
Naismith winner her senior year in high school, #1 recruit of her class, she's no slouch that's for sure.
please someone tell me why the time in the last 0.4 seconds has increased to 0.8 seconds. ??
they winning it all now
That should’ve been the final!
Go UConn. What a game.
The calls were consistent with the game. Many no calls on both teams.
On the last play: it’s on #1 Baylor, on a Pick and Roll the paint should be clear, but #1 was posted on the other side which brought her marker to help on the drive to guard #2.
What a UCONN Con
Hoping for a Uconn v Louisville finals. My top two out of three female ballers still in the comp
Won’t happen. I wanted Louisville to win so bad 😭
@@debsam77 Well even Uconn is out. I’m going for Stanford to beat Arizona
