I will say that when given the choice between a daily pill called escitalopram, or lexapro, and an as needed pill with some adverse side effects, I chose the daily pill to keep the potential side effects to a minimum, and I am happy to report that I have personally had no adverse side effects.

Even extreme depression has types like different levels, personality traits, unique circumstances and many other factors. Every depression can be different. Dear Ranveer you did asked correct questions but Neurologist are not the one who are trained to treat Depression,Anxiety so better you call some psychiatrist on show to get more specific answers related to mental health and to keep indian crowd very clear in there minds that if they got Depression or Anxiety or any emotional issues the first doctor to visit is psychiatrist and not to neurologist or neurosurgeon which is very common trend in India due to confusion amongst Indians by the word Neuro __brain__ etc.

I think if you have genuinely tried everything else and it doesnt work... THEN you should try meds. for twelve years I tried to eat healthy, take my vitamins, take probiotics for my gut health, go to therapy ,found a less stressful job, have a healthy relationship and my brain still is backfiring. I just started meds because I ruled out afflicting factors. I think it is chemical in my case so meds are the best solution for me

I’ve been on them for 20 years. Currently on Lexapro. For the first 15 years I think they helped. I was on Paxil at that time. In 2019 it quit working. I started having panic attacks at that time and for the first time in my life experienced suicidal thoughts. I eventually got off Paxil and onto Lexapro and my anxiety has gotten little better but mainly credit therapy to that along with the Lexapro some. Overall I think they should not be used long term if possible and I really question giving it to kids. Something is very wrong about that. My faith has played a big role in helping with those thoughts. All of the studies seem to indicate antidepressants are not very effective long term. Short
Term absolutely but long term probably not.
