No problem, Dan.. I was driving for J.B. back in 1994 not long after the intermodal thing with them started and like you said, it was a game changer.

I love that K3LA on RBMN #5017 which is my second favorite RBMN unit. Now I have a reason to try to catch the SBPI or PIFF. But sense I have to go to the Railroad training school I barely have time to film vids.

I am now just have to take this name for my Rail Yard, Terminal, I am going to need someone's help to choose a name either Taylor Yard or Inman Yard I just modelling HO Intermodal Containers I have Lionel 0 scale MI-JACK and 4 other static cranes at the moment I hope I can get help or answer with help with this I really and truly enjoyed this awesome video thanks again Trains21 for such a perfect video well done on this video

I live in scranton and have always loved trains, I remember watching the trains go by on the scranton express way when I was around 9 or 10 years old. But I have a question for you that I thought you may know with your knowledge of the Taylor train yard. I don't remember when, but I seem to remember seeing a passenger train (double decker commuter) on the express way tracks that appeared it was being transported somewhere. No passengers where in the train. It wasn't like a special excursion train from steamtown, but it looked like an actual commuter train was being transported to another city, and was going towards the Taylor train yard. Thanks for reading, hopefully you may have some knowledge on this.
Were the cars NJT or MBTA?
Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry, I don't remember exactly whether they were njt or mbta cars. But I have seen what njt double decker cars look like, but have never seen any mbta double decker cars, so I would guess they're njt double decker cars. But I may be wrong. Any ideas of when there may be some passenger cars passing through taylor yard? Also, that was a pretty cool video you caught of those mbta cars
None.. They come very sporadically but when they do it's usually on 36T and 37T.
Interesting, does 36T, or 37T usually come on specific times/days?
They're both daily trains.. Early morning, usually in darkness.

Have you ever had anyone ask about the condition of the tracks? maybe it's just the low angle prospective but some of the track looks in pretty bad shape. Is that acceptable, given the speeds the trains are moving?
It's the angle that they're shot.
drove rail shuttle for Roadway Exp. for 6 yrs. friends that were packer operators. UP mtr freight.watched cars being set out, spotted

You have failed to mention UPS. I have read that UPS is the railroads single largest customer.
The fact that they're so big is the very reason that I didn't mention them this time around.. When talking about UPS it's getting into an entire new facet of intermodal.. Ironically, UPS and FEDEX both have terminals here but for whatever reason aren't using the intermodal service.. Yet.

Where I live, UPS uses the intermodal service, but for the most part they just move their trailers on spine cars. Even the intermodal containers are generally stacked single high on spine cars.

Could you elaborate? What unique id numbers are relayed to the 'Kitchen' from the locomotive operator(s)? Do the locomotives (power cars) have license plates or something similar?

I think you mean the sound of the car wheel flanges scraping against the rail. It's more pronounced in a curve.
I saw a truck (not like an 18 wheeler, but a normal size pickup truck) pulling 2 containers going down a highway

Trains21 yea me either, i usually see truck drivers pull containers, but a pickup truck?......it might be powerful to pull containers
They're empty containers that someone has bought for storage, like a pod.

Why do the little container tractors need to tilt the trailers up and down like that?
To lift the 'landing gear' high enough off of the ground.
they're yard "mules". the have an elevating 5th wheel, so they don't have to raise and lower the landing gear by hand

What a horrendously slow operation to get a container off a railcar and onto a truck that's just a yard shuttle to move the container to a parking slot. No wonder railroads aren't making better money at intermodal. I don't imagine it's any faster getting containers off trucks and onto railcars.

I think BNSF annual revenue report would disagree with your ignorant comment. Intermodal volumes and revenues are the top of the food chain at America's largest Intermodal carrying RR

To be honest he is either a rookie or hes just a shitty operator. Most guys where I work would have done 4 or 5 in the time it took him to do one.

Cuts down on labor between ship/ rail/ and truck modes, which is the administration's goal -- just like running DPU's and longer/ heavier tonnage trains. All the ptc towers along the class one row's ? They are hoping to drop to single man, or even 'autonomous' road trains -- bring your own spare knuckle and air line ---
Regarding intermodal, it's actually been around for over half a century to some degree. Railroads experimented with tofc vans and containers that detached from their chassis. Entire operation could be executed by the driver.
