I was stationed at Marine Barracks 8th & I in Washington DC, where these guys, and the Marine Corps Band are from back in 1998-2000. I saw them perform every Friday evening along with the Silent Drill Platoon during the Friday evening Parade, (Mostly because I had to work security (8152)). I can't remember seeing this side of the D&B Corps. Original works? Never could even imagine that being played. Well done Devil Dogs!
They sound and look great, probably have only certain amount of people in the unit, my guess would be that maybe someone wasn't feeling well enough to perform that day,it doesn't take away from the skills of the people on the field, 95% of the people in the corps come from dci corps, they all have to audition before going to boot camp every member has already had the discipline to play in the corps, it takes a lot of work to sound and look as great as they do, the bass contra bass section and bass drum sections, are in full control and the entire unit sounds awesome thank you for your service to our country these are the finest examples of people who represent Us
Outstanding! Precision and incredible elegance in marching that only the US Military can deliver! I could watch these amazing musicians all day! Very big fan!
Not necessarily at music but i guess americanizing and being completely 100% biased is one way to try and make then seem like the best pit in the world
Remember your tax dollars are paying for this. These music organizations budgets have been cut in half and more than 1/2 the military musical organizations have been eliminated lately.
Jack Brainard They've always had a small pit. It doesn't take away at all the musicianship these men and women posses. Actually, it just goes to show that you don't need all the bells and whistles that todays' DCI has. I see a lot of people rip the G bugles as well. The sound is warmer and it takes more skill to play.
love it the "pit" is like the golden years of DCI corps developing the grounded pit in early 1980's. It's how they all started timpani and keyboards grew into what it is today. Remember this is true Drum and Bugle corps unit Don't forget these are not only musicians but rifleman in the USMC that means when the snit hits the fan they are skilled and qualified to shoot a rifle!
Wow! I'm used to hearing such a thin sound from drum and bugle corps. I guess it make a big difference when every musician is essentially a professional level artist.
Exactly... one listen to DCI, or heck, even a decent 4A-6A high school band brass section, and they can very easily make you feel like you got hit by a brick wall. I'd be shocked if you found one that actually sounded thin.
I marched in the Boston crusaders in 1979 we had only 25guys in our horn line and everyone was playing their hard work during rehearsal allowed them to sound as strong as corps twice our size, everyone on the field in this very special unit is amazing and are 95# recruited from the top corps from drum Corp international but most of all they chose to serve our country,to the brave young man and ladies who wear this uniform thanks for your time and great talent for our freedom
It's so nice not to see Brass players not running all over the field for no reason and wearing proper uniforms. The military style marching with modern music is a second kind of cool.Note: The Marines are the best marching military branch by far.
Notice the Bugle sound 2valve Beats the crap out of Bb trumpets for projection and edge. Notice they still call it Drum and Bugle . Smaller horn line than many DCI but have more volume of sound. Brighter Somewhat edgy . Would still have liked to hear more of snare sound from drums. Thank you Marines for staying true to the Heritage. I can again focus on the music with precision drill, not being distracted by monstrous pits, dancers, props,. Would it be politically correct to ask you to do a color pre with honor guard? Magnificent 7 ? Magnificent, 70. Bravo !
This what the corps sounds like in the old days and I am a member of the Boston alumni and they are the best of the best regards to the level of detail and talent
@@davidwarner3326 They are not the comparable instruments. It's like comparing fugal, trumpet, and coronet. Also try and get everyone to play in perfect tune which will kill your volume and range. I call it the splat sound of corp style where you have a few people overplaying in performances and killing the over all tune. Bugles are brassy and splat out sound.
do you know whetheh the dangerous person from Yemen when he when to sheake me hand like mosalem i refuse i sheake his hand like the magramen al Rauease he is from him!!!!!?????
I mean honestly this is pretty awesome and not going to rip on the Marines just because they're Marines but honestly the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corp seem to be a bit more proficient in their marching and all but I got my preferences and all
the chance dangerous women sade i will sand you the link for the curet the whepsade to know the information about your case information and she doesn't give me nothing i don't know why!!!!!?????
Can you imagine the Marine drum and bugle Corps and Spandex and prancing around in their leotards DC indeca should take a look back in time bring back military bearing on the field. Just imagine NFL playing in leotards and dancing and prancing on the field and call it progress like DC I did I don't think too many people would be happy with that decision, NFL we just call it progress
This really warms my heart! This is the REAL Drum & Bugle Corps I remember from the 70's and 80's. I have to say it - the DCI shows today . . . well, they look like the LGBTQA squad with a few horns - - - I can't stand it! DCI - get back to basics. Please!
Proud that my son is carrying on the tradition of excellence of the Commandant’s Own since 2021.
what an honor it must have been to have them perform at your competition

13:37 "My Country Tis of Thee" gets me every time... dunno why, especially when it's as beautiful and well done as this.
At any Marine Drum and Bugle Corps performance, the part that I look most forward to is at 31:11
+Ranishka Jayakody What part? When the car is being chased by a golf cart?
aidan b No the music they play. The regimental march.
i was joking, sorry
aidan b Lol don't be sorry. I thought you were serious.
XD Nope. Sometimes my sarcasm is a little too... Sarcastic?
*Corps stops playing for intermission,* *Band stands thinking they're all done* "We continue our program...." *whole band sits down*
Just wait until Space Force gets a drum Corps, they’re gonna have jet packs, and 3D drill

Pay attention DCI......THIS is what a Drum Corps looks like and sounds like !!!!!
and they don't have 20 drummers on the side line playing standing instraments...
From what I read is that they get a lot of former DCI players
@@rvail136 They have a pit of four or so players now, and they use electronics and amplification.
@@rvail136 don’t diss front ensemble
Wooooooow...
If I could only hit the like button, I would've hit it a million times....
Amaaaaazing.....
Im SURE these marines were happy that the parents were clapping off tempo during their walk-off. Im sure of it
It matched the movement of their feet at least
10:50... the call and response
probably exiting to see them preform at a competition
wow what an enormous pit!!
Hmmm no. No they arent. They might each indivisually have talent or slill of sorts but it takes more than that for the music to actually be good music
Not necessarily at music but i guess americanizing and being completely 100% biased is one way to try and make then seem like the best pit in the world
No problem. I understand many people forget that over glamourizing their own country is seen as really cocky by others.
Remember your tax dollars are paying for this. These music organizations budgets have been cut in half and more than 1/2 the military musical organizations have been eliminated lately.

They got some MONSTER Soprano Players. NO need for Microphone, so nice.
HANDS DOWN ...
SNAPPY SOUND
ACCURATE TEMPO 👍🏻
WOW ... RESPECT!!!
Stunning , amazing,,
Nothing far short of amazing , discracfully good, I would be proud of these musicians! Unbelievable.
Nice! The Magnificent Seven theme.
Very good!
Awesome job!!!!
Marched with the D&B 1971-73.

iron, polish, and clean as well. The Air Force academy Drum & Bugle Corps was one of the finest and now it is gone due to budget cuts.
T San Ughhh....synthesizers.....lol! maybe I'm just into authentic sound
Jack Brainard damn really? Im joining thr airforce soon and was considering a military corps for the airforce
Wow! I'm used to hearing such a thin sound from drum and bugle corps. I guess it make a big difference when every musician is essentially a professional level artist.
And when you spend at least as much time practicing - under military discipline - as any pro athlete.
what drum corps are you hearing?
It's partly because of the G Bugles and because they are really good players.
Exactly... one listen to DCI, or heck, even a decent 4A-6A high school band brass section, and they can very easily make you feel like you got hit by a brick wall.

Love the Yoko Ono scream at 22.07!
27:02 holes or bad drill?
The Band Man grass field probs holes or uneven ground
Holes
🎉🥇🏅🎈fantastic!
Battlefield high school has the same cadence
nice present
always a class act bz
Amazing!!!!

After 3 corps had characters on the field, other corps had t-shirts made declaring the death of drum corps...50 years ago.
If the great Marine Drum and Bugle Corps doesn't perform military marches, who will?
yeah I saw they were doing and 8 instead of a 6. The 6 looks more chill.
Their uniform hearkens back to the 18th Century when musicians wore the opposite colours of their regiments.
anyone have an idea the average age of this corps ?
A solid 19.. wait I was thinking, your corps, my corps, the Marine Corps!
This is what summer marching bands need to strive for in sound and look.
Also 2 cymbals and 5 bass
💜
what is the first song?? (name)
You can't stop the beat. The original song is from hairspray, but the version they used is from Glee

Yeah. The sound does have an edge to it, but the quality of sound just will not compare to Bb/F
Having marched both G and Bb, I can attest to it being about how the members are taught to play and not about the instruments themselves.

Semper Fi
Shoulda gone with 5 snares and 3 tenors
Could just be a hole for that day. Though I will say if it's not a hole and we're talking moving a snare, I'd rather have a 5th bass than a 3rd tenor.

Should do a better job presenting the colors.
NO electronics and Amps!!!!!!!
And the usual idiotic comment from Peter the Great..... er, Peter Grun.
Micah Lall-Trail they still sound good
They actually use amps and electronics now. Not just amplifying keyboards, but soloists as well.
