    It's crazy to me that this is starting to become a legitimate problem, I have Lego from probably a decade ago and minifigs and bricks are still perfectly fine. The dropping quality over the past few years has been very surprising to me considering Lego built their brand off of being the highest quality, best building toy. Really hope that soon these issues become non-issues again because the amount of damage I've seen both in bricks and minifigs over the past few years compared to the years before and the years before those is insane

    • @100Creed
      @100Creed 10 месяцев назад

      First of all the word Legos doesn’t exist. Lego has no plural and second of all cracking don’t happen 99,99% of the time. Only when you play with the figures a lot it can happen.

    • @Lu14355
      @Lu14355 10 месяцев назад +2

      Cracking barely happens unless you really mistreat your minifigs, I have 100+ star wars and they're almost all intact crack-wise
      Also it's just plastic toys (really cool looking plastic toys), so it's not meant to last forever in absolutely perfect conditions
      Just store your stuff away from direct sunlight and don't expose them to brutal changes of temperature (any room should do the job) and they'll age fine

    From an engineering standpoint, the best way to avoid material stress and cracking is to maintain a constant humidity and warmth in the storage container- it avoids thermal expansion/contraction of the materials at uneven rates and avoids cracking and stresses. Though, that may be a bit expensive for legos.

    • @Starpotion
      @Starpotion 5 месяцев назад

      A cigar humidor would actually make for a pretty decent solution in that case as they're specifically built for keeping the contents at a certain room temperature and humidity.

      I mean it’s science. The figures holding themselves together is purely due to the stress pressure created when you connect each piece. If pieces didn’t push on each other then the fig would simply just fall apart.

    The cracked torsos would always bother me as a kid. I would build sets, then tear them down for parts, and would swap out the mini figs to make custom characters. I made a whole sci fi universe where the bionicals were ancient space mech fighters piloted by humans in a galactic war. So I played with my Lego a lot is what I am saying.
    And before you think I was being destructive and tough with them as a kid, I always cherished my toys. I’d get those stress cracks in the sides of a minifig that was only a couple years old and never know why and it would stress me out. I did have a huge bin of old vintage legos (I’d have a lot more money now if I kept that bin) but since they were old when I received them and had gotten a lot of play out of them, many had a minor crack. So I just attributed it to them being older than me. But when like my new Obi Wan figure would randomly get a crack I would always get upset. I’d usually glue the crack shut on the inside so it doesn’t show, and be very careful not to put too much.
    Then cracks are the worst.

  • @crash8542
    @crash8542 Год назад +8

    The issue woth that piece though is it puts stress on the hips. Best thing to do is buy some off brand silicone brick tape, cut it into 1x2 sections, and stick it wherever you store your figures

    • @willtaylor6793
      @willtaylor6793 Год назад +2

      Yeah I’ve noticed that it does that, but the thing is that the hip piece isn’t going to snap because it’s much thicker plastic. The thinnest parts of the figures like the feet are more prone to cracking, whereas the upper legs are the strongest part arguably

  • @juliensea

    Plastic gets weak over time when not used to prevent this just use the mini figs from time to time, move the joints and just play wit em

    My figures from like 35 years ago don't have this problem. Somewhere in the past years they changed their plastic composition

    I mean, if they're expensive rare minifigs i get it. If not i personally just don't care, if a piece breaks, bricklink always exists for me to buy new parts

    For the legs I usually scratch some plastic off so it doesn’t crack then the arms I trim the hole and make it bigger so then there is no cracks the I use fake Lego studs to connect my figs to

    Store them facing sideways. They won't topple over when you open the drawer.

    I mean you can use the black leg holder piece if you just put a brick or a 1×2 cheese slope or something in front of it to hold the minifigure on😊
