I've been a Dish customer for about 15 years. The old 721 DVR was great, but it's no longer compatible (I suspect Tivo's lawsuit). They gave us a 522, which is a suitable replacement. It works fine, never misses recordings, and rarely needs to be reset. The fan never turns off. Our other DVR is the VIP622. It works fine as well, needs to be reset every few months. It does not miss recordings. I haven't noticed the fan. Some of Tivo's patents demonstrate huge flaws in our patent laws.
i have been an installer and seen this problem. u probably have r59 cable and need to upgrade r60. this allows more info to be passed through the system without backing it up. u may also have dirty voltage. check ur voltage at that wall receptacle
Comcast DVR first came out with only DVI and component, because HDMI wasn't fully developed, Comcast does and has always offered cable cards for people who want to have a TIVO comcast didn't supply TIVO equipment because TIVO is a subscription service that one has to pay them seperatly but if you want TIVO you can get cable cards for free from the cable provider sometimes the additional card may be a small monthly charge.
I have had all three providers and prefer DirecTV. I thought I would love the Hopper, but I hate it. It is nice to be able to just skip commercials when you are watching a pre-recorded show, but the user interface for recording programs is so much more laborious than necessary. Why can't I just hit record when in the guide and have the option to record either once or schedule a series recording? Why must I go through 3-5 steps? And, like you, I also had shows not record when scheduled.
From what I gathered recently Dish has undergone many changes for the better better in upper management to better equipment. I talked to customer service and they were very nice and polite. Just make sure you speak to someone within the U.S. and stay away from third party vendors because they are misleading. there are four corporate call centers for Dish in the U.S. and I have the number for the one in New York. So far I have no complaints.. I am a new customer.
SamtheSham -- did you end up going back to DTV? I too have the same issues of ownership of equipment. However, DVR's wear out so quickly and the technology is exhausted within a few years anyway. Combined with the fact that I'm just going to toss the unit anyway, I see no problem in giving DTV the old unit back. Myself, I'll do just about anything to keep that dreaded CABLE-GUY from entering my house. I buy and maintain all of my own infrastructure (Satellite dish, cables, Splitters).
You make me feel happy that I have never given over any of my money to any of them. I have seen so many problems my friends have and so I just find other things to do than watch TV, most of it is just not worth watching anymore anyway, so full of violence and profanity. By the way, I enjoyed how clear your explanation was without needing to resort to any explitives, thank you. I didn't know ANYONE was doing this, but you have made good use of this service to put your experie
Dish network network has the best HD and movies and programs for the price their equipment is very expensive like their DVR and Direct tv has better sports like MLB comcast has also .Direct has two free DVRS in two rooms i think Direct has better DVRS but the programming is expensive like 130 a month for all their channels after a year were you get a deal under a year commitement.Uverse has a DVR that you record shows and watch on 4 diffrent tvs they have similar sports to direct but no MLB.
Unfortunately the review really isn't pertinent. Comcast has the x1, direc has genie, and dish has the hopper which are quite a bit different then what was available in 2010
Dish Network tv everywhere is very expensive. My current bill is $55 for three tvs and to add two sling boxes to have tv in two more devices they said: I need to change my boxes and pay $10 more for each box plus $17 dollars more for each sling right to use (sling is integrated in the new boxes) that is a total of $54 more for a total of $110!!!!!! I am already paying the programation package so why woul I double my bill? I will post this in every dish Tv everywhere add!!
i always knew that directv was the best for satellite lol even if its by a bit. if renting is an issue however, i strongly recommend verizon fios (superb picture quality & a finite layout and performance) or comcast but instead of renting a box, rent a CableCARD and build a home theater pc with the ceton infinitv or buy a used tivo. the advantage with the htpc is with windows 7 & windows media center, u hav dvr functionality w/o PAYING :D & download windows 7 via pirate bay, save some bucks
Dish fucking sucks they over charged me 150 bucks then cut my service off, now they want 200 to turn it back on over there screw up.These people at dish are crooks and don't give a dam about customers who have been with them for years. They also refused to give us updated dvr boxes.
Take it from a Comcast customer do not get Comcast its horrible the reception sucks customer service is rude and unhelpful and can't speak English 80% of the time get anything but Comcast
I have used Direct, Comcast, and Dish First off Comcast is garbage. - Picture quality is inferior - video on demand frequently crashes - too expensive Dish & Direct have good picture quality. The direct system has a much better dvr system and there is no lag when changing channels. Once my contract is over with Dish I will probably return to Direct TV
I have dish and I had Directv. I signed a two-year contract with Dish and 6 months in they were charging me $130. I said hell no, and I pay $60 for local channels. I will pay the contract fee to uninstall Dish. Please avoid Dish cable. FIND SOMETHING ELSE.
Take this video down! It's outdated and irrelevant. There have been so many improvements on all sides....cable, Dish and DirecTV. Also, now there is also AT&T and Verizon TV service.

We have used DirecTV for about 2-3 Year and got Dish Hooper and it is good
tell me the true is dish better then direct tv and cox please help.
"Sometimes it takes forever?" It is only possible to take forever once...
this is out of date....what about DTV's SWM system?? What about DTV's HR24 DVR? Better than anything out there

too bad they cannot improve their signal not working when there is a storm.
Thanks for the video but, you never did say what one is best out of the three.
I'm done with comcast's high prices and faulty equipment. And signed up with dish.
No such word as myoptic. I believe you meant myopic optigenarian?? Word of suggestion. Don't use words people have to look up! Great reviews though!

Dish sucks...No AMC channel means no Mad Men, no Breaking Bad, no more movies and the rest of their programming sucks as well.
