I am a current Directv Call Center technician and I'll tell you one thing, there are a lot of shitty employees where I work that will either transfer you for no reason or hang up. I know I work my hardest to resolve peoples issues, but when a customer is so frustrated from the last guy sometimes it is hard. I hate working for Directv, especially now where AT&T is taking over. I love helping people, but I hate that Directv charges people up the ass for service and then even charges them for Technician visits and what not. Sure we offer a protection plan, but why should people have to pay that on top of the pricey TV service. I wish I could head this company. People drop us all the time, and you know what I don't blame them.

Randy Perkes There is NO way I could ever work on the phones for either company... I would go insane. Plus there's no pay in that, go hit the doors and make real money, make your own hours and just cherry pick so you don't have to worry about the assholes who have cable and think it's the best thing since sliced bread, there internet is the only good thing about it, satellite equipment and picture quality blow cable companies out of the water. If I don't average a deal every 2 hours then it's an off day. So I work 4-5 hours a day and make 500-800 and then go home. Poor phone workers... just doing there jobs and have to put up with stuff that isn't there fault for a measly 10-15 an hour. NO THANK YOU! Hit me up if you have any questions. 385-335-2220

Randy Perkes Randy if you have At&t for internet or cell phone the price is good for 2 years on DTV if you don't it goes up $35-40 but if you make your payments on time then call and complain the 13th month they can work with you a little. With Dish they do a set 2 year price lock but the Hopper is the the best box in the TV industry and so they charge quite a bit.

DIRECTV will need your referred friend's (or whoever you referred) account number for the CSR to apply the $10 discount for 10 months on your account WITHIN 90 days or it will be forfeited. It's not scam, you just don't know how it works.

I was a Directv customer back when you had to buy and install the dish yourself (not long after the service launched).
I had two run-ins with them. One was when I bought a HD-Tivo when it was first released. You were supposed to get a rebate from Directv. I got the first rebate. When I bought the second unit they didn't want to give me my rebate. I wasn't under contract (mainly because I already owned my equipment) so I left.
About a year later I joined up again. Everything was fine until I accepted one of their money saving offers. After the offer ended my bill was through the roof. Even going back to my old package didn't provide a much relief. I left again in 2009 or so and I've not been back since.
I make a point to tell the Directv sales people that approach me in Best Buy or other places what happened and that I'll never sign up with Directv again.

We were with Time Warner Cable and our bill was 160.00 for phone, cable, and high speed internet in one package. But what started out as between 80-90 dollars a month had escalated over several years to 160.00. We were fed up and decided to try Dish TV. It was a nightmare. What started as low cost and savings escalated into a higher price quickly. We had to have a receiver for each room in order to play different channels in different rooms otherwise they said you had to watch the same thing on all the TV's. Of course they charged 5.00 a month rent for each receiver. The equipment they installed was DVR for each room and they didn't tell us so they were trying to charge even more. When we complained they came out and switched the receiver at our expense. By the time it was all said and done their were hidden costs and taxes everywhere and it was almost 200.00 a month. Every time we had a storm come through the signal scrambled. The entire thing was a nightmare. We tried Direct TV this year and went through much of the same thing. They out source their internet and sent us to Century Link. The internet was horrible. We couldn't even play you tube videos. We would complain and they kept saying it looked good from their end and they would send customer service out at our expense. This time when we hooked up I told them I wanted to know what the exact monthly bill would be with taxes and all. They gave us the bundle deal and all these discounts that lasted a few months and then the price jumped to almost 200.00 a month after hidden costs and taxes. To top it all off they put the channels into different catagories and the more channels you wanted the more you had to pay a month. If you wanted local channels you had to pay more. I was so aggravated I could puke. I said to hell with it and went back to Time Warner Cable. The service is good, they don't make you pay extra for local channels or regular channels like Sprout TV for your kids or the Sci-Fi channel, etc. The price has been what they said it would be. We only get one bill from one company. The internet is fast and handles all of our multiple devices on it. What you see is what you get and I have a new found appreciation for that. I did go with my own router and modem to save costs and to handle our high tech family and our gaming needs but it was worth the investment and I couldn't be happier. Good luck and happy hunting. Save yourself the huge headache and don't bother with Dish either. Same sh... different satellite.

We also had trouble with Direct tv Service equipment until finally they came out and did a REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. They snuck in an extra 2yr contract without our knowledge. After contacting Direct tv they said they took care of it and our contract would end the end of June. We cancelled our tv for the end of this week so we can start another company and Direct tv said that we are still under contract till Jan 2018. BE REAL CAREFUL WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE CROOKED!!!!

I've had dish now for 5 years.. First two years was fine, HD was great, etc. But, after my contract was up I made the mistake of switching to DirecTV thinking I'd save some coin. I didn't like ANYTHING about it. DVR sucked in comparison, the picture quality was pretty much equal. I rode out my 2 year deal with them, and went right back to DIsh and have happily been there for the last 3 years. I have nothing bad to say about Dish at all, and just got my mom to switch from her overpriced crap RCN cable.

Be cautious when suspending Directv service. I suspended my Directv service because I decided to buy a house and needed to watch my pennies. Well, six months later Directv started billing me again. They reactivated my old account without asking me or notifying me first. I received an email today stating that I now owe Directv $183. I contacted Directv and the girl in customer service said that it was a valid bill and it cannot be reversed even if I didn't have a satellite dish or service for that month. Word to the wise, just discontinue Directv if you are not using it. $183 a month is too expensive anyway. I plan on writing a letter to the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint against Directv suspension/reactivation practices. I just got ripped off for $183. I hope that there's a class action law suit against Directv in hopes to get my money back!

I switched to direct tv in February. I was promised to pay 115 per month for two years. Got the bill it was 130. After hours on phone and I was called a liar on top of that, I complained to the Az attorney general. Theyve been in trouble before with them. I got my price I was promised and let out of my contract. I just boxed things up today. I have dish now.

    • @MrGoldengoodies
      @MrGoldengoodies 10 лет назад

Dish TV is a HORROR. Putting aside the picture suddenly goes out without warning - you expect technical difficulties occasionally. However, Dish hasn't come to terms with Turner division of the thieving monopoly Time Warner, so they removed the only channel I watch for non-news (TCM) programming during the past month. They replaced TCM with MGM - Who knows how permanent that will be. MGM can't be watched because they show recent garbage over & over, plus the picture is blemished with a constant logo - which vegetables don't mind apparently. The thieves at Dish don't want to pay an increase to Time Warner since it';s less of the ripoff charges their customers pay, going into their own pockets. On top of removing the most watched channels, they rewarded me by increasing my bill that just arrived by another $5.00! This is not the first time they removed channels, and immediately increased my bill afterwards because they were giving me less, On top of that - the company is run by crooked Lowlifes. I phoned & went on line with Dish technical team regularly for 14&1/2 years to simply ask which division handles content submissions for Pay-Per-View. I got the same answer a thousands times. The Dish employees know nothing about the deals the executives make with the corporate criminals (Sony, Time-Warner & Universal Comcast) OR the Organized-crime companies (that provide their late night programming). The executives never speak to or respond to any legit producer or any member of the public since they never answer any questions or make any legit business arrangements. This is a polite way of saying Dish regards their customers as a piece of shit. I was hoping Direct could be better - but it sounds like their customer attitudes are no better than Dish. The other option is AT&T Uverse. Since they never mention the picture quality in any ads - it probably rots. I have a neighbor with U-Verse, but he's an idiot, so the credibility is compromised there. Oh, well, I'll keep exploring.

MrGoldengoodies I can't agree with you more and that's why I don't have either of those in my house. It was tough for the kiddos at first but we watch Netflix or something else via the internet or regular "air" TV. I think eliminating all the "channels" was the best thing I have done AND I'm not paying out money for crap service anymore.

    • @MrGoldengoodies
      @MrGoldengoodies 10 лет назад

T Justmetmc Hello. I wish I had an option to avoid the big 2 providers. Over the air TV is too idiotic for many of us, Unfortunately. The corporate criminal thieving scum who make $100 million a year now own all the TV channels & networks, thanks to the FCC only being interested in getting bribed, like the rest of the crooked politicians, who allowed the scum to steal the entire media. In the years past, TV networks hired real producers to produce TV shows, & not just their (equally retarded) lowlife relatives. Eventually people will be charged for the air they breathe, and the same greedy corrupt conglomerates will also own the utilities besides communication companies, so they can charge for power, internet, phones, air & water - with or without carcinogens (at a premium price.

I have been with Direct TV for 14 years now and couldn't be happier! When times were tough, and we were having trouble getting our bills paid on time they were wonderful about working with us. Anytime I have had to call customer service, they have been prompt and always took care of my issues. My only complaint would be that we wanted local channels but I just found out that they are now available to us. We have never participated in the refer a friend program, so I can't comment on that. But overall I would recommend Direct TV as a great service to go with!

Have you had to deal with them lately? I've been with Directv for over 20 years, but now that AT&T bought them, the connection is worse than it ever was. Now they've gone up in the price to over $90, so I am looking into canceling them and going with Dish. But I know that with AT&T calling the shots, it's going to be a battle and they will lie and then make up fees and bills. They have had SO MANY class action suits against them, but they are mega and they do not care, as long as they can steal your money.

    • @ryanfawcett1168

Just some of info on that, reason you spend so much time on hold when asking for a supervisor, is what normally is done it is transferred to the supervisors disk or is transferred to a supervisors extension and then hung up on, in order to "get it off the agents desk" so the agent does not get the customer survey after the call which affects the agents metrics.

I work for dtv, in reconnect.
If your bill goes up and you are in good standing, ( bills paid on time ect)
( even if you have early cancellation or didn't return the equipment)
You should cancel you service and wait 24 hours.
When you call back you'll be speaking with reconnect, we are what you THINK retention is.
Too many people know about retention and etc...fish...tmoble...Verizon..ALL of them operate the same way.
When you call in as a customer, you are dealing with customer service.
Nice people, but no authority...not even the manager.
So you say you want to cancel, they send you to "disconnect" no such thing...there is only retention.
They have a little more authority.
But if you want the first year price again, or that new equipment...
You cancel and wait 24 hours. You CANNOT even speak to us if you are a customer, but we are the agents you wish you could speak with.

...and since this is the last department a customer gets transfered before finishing the call and after getting a new equipment, or an offer...sometimes we find that a previous representative didn't do the things right, and we provide some wrong information, but we work hard to fix any problem presented. And we really appretiate when costumers are kind and gentle to us. DTV call centers are all around the world, so please be kind when talking to a non-native English speaker.

Dish told us a 2 year contract would never see prices rise, like cable does. THEY LIE! They just doubled our basic service fee and customer service basically tell us there is nothing we can do. We got a call eight months that our fee's would be going up. Then the next billing cycle it doubled. We can either quit and be charged for the next year with the new rate, or let them extort us into paying the doubled price. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT GO WITH DISH NETWORK

I've come to the conclusion that both of these companies are money grubbers. Charging extra for local channels or packages that give you a very limited choice, while they collectivly make billions of our hard earned cash. This is the reason why those paying for internet separately are starting to cancel these services and using apps only for TV programming.

I just got off the phone with direcVD, they want to charge me for a remote replacement. I've had their service for 3 years now and the remote is just plain worn out. The rep told me if I rent a car and it runs out of gas it's my job to fill the tank up. (BS) I told her that the remote buttons are just toast and if I rented a car and it needed new brake pads or new tires the cost wouldn't fall to me. She had nothing to say. DirecVD is over priced and I will be cancelling soon.

Definite debate here. I am a Direct customer. I really have not had any major issues with them. I was contemplating switching to Xfinity just to bundle and get a better rate. Initially looked ok until I got home and found out they lied to me. Was told I was getting internet and tv for less than DTV and separate cable internet for a two year committment. Then I learned the fine print. HD, DVR and sports package fees are not for two years and go up after one year. Plus they want me to pay $50 to install. So I decided to stick with DTV. Its been pretty reliable and they upgrade my equipment regularly.

Satelite/Cable TV is injurious to my financial, physical, mental and spiritual health.
I have been with Dish Network for 9 years (I bet I had something else before). Got scammed by somebody who had inside access to Dish system for $750. Dish did not acknowledge the problem, did not own up to it or even felt sorry for my loss.

I'm totally with you, and thanks for posting this. Directv are liars. They told me I'd have Big Ten Network with a Spanish lineup of channels. False. They installed the wrong dish and I didn't have my 60 Spanish channels for two weeks. They lowered my price for those two weeks, only to charge me later. Two of the mini receivers were bad. They sent a tech to fix one, but not the other because he couldn't get the other one to malfunction. They were supposed to send me a new mini receiver, but instead sent me an empty box. They charged me for not returning the bad unit in time, when they forgot to send me a new one. Never activate anything you receive from Directv, it'll re-start your contract without your knowledge. I never had any one of these problems with Dish Network and I can't wait to go back. Another thing I hate about Directv is that they limit you to what you can see on your iPad, Tablet or online. Dish does not. What you can see on your tv, you can see on your iPad, including your DVR. Directv are horrible, lying thieves. As for Dish, I always got what I asked for...I wish I would've never left Dish Network.

I ordered direct tv years ago Tech never showed up to install. Ordered Dish the next day and they installed on time, loved the service. Have comcast now, they are like Direct as far as customer service, hold times, up-selling you, lying to you, etc. I've had it with them and will cut down any trees necessary to get Dish Hopper w Sling.

You're lucky you can afford NFL package. If you couldn't you would have talked about accepting the 'one year free' offer only to find out they won't turn it off no matter how many times you call and ask them to do so. I got screwed for over a thousand dollars on that scam. Google it and see how many States Attorney's General have filed suit.

Beth, cancel your DirectTV and get the best tv provider EVER...get an ANTENNA! Since the digital conversion there are a lot more channels, the best HD signal because it's not compressed like sat. or cable. The best part is it's FREE and you never have to call directTV again. You can pull signals from as far away as 100 miles with a large antenna and a signal booster. If you need a DVR you can use a computer with tuner card and a large hard drive plus watch online. Try it, it totally ROCKS!

Directv did the same thing to me. I referred a friend and he started getting the discounts. I didn't and finally called Directv. They told me they had to look into it. I received a form letter stating I was not going to get the refer a friend credit because my friend did not call the right number to sign up. WTF? The letter wasn't even signed by an individual, it was just signed: "service team". Then my friend stopped getting his discounts. He called and complained and they returned his discounts. I was a 10 year customer of Directv. It's true, they have the absolute WORST customer service in the industry. They have a good product but the poor customer service overwhelms even the best product. These companies think that just because you're an existing customer that they can piss on you and you won't leave. Directv apparently has never heard of the 16-2 rule. A happy customer tells 2 people while a dissatisfied customer tells 16. I can tell you I have far exceeded that 16. I tell everybody to stay away from Directv. Never again..

  • @stickshockey3517

The customer service does suck!!! They lied to me a weeks after getting into a 2-year contract. I will never go with them again, all they do is tell you lie after lie, and say that there is nothing that they can do about it. I am stuck with a two year contract that they misinformed me on information, they are trying to get more money out of me. I am def switching companies after this contract. I was on the phone for over 2 hours and go no where except there is nothing that I can do from the supervisor.

I'ma make this simple, if you don;t like to have problems with your service provider, install a roof antenna or stop watching TV. Here is the thing about call centers, no one works in a call center because they want to. Turnover is always high and that means a constant supply of new people learning the ropes and running off canned messages. TV phone service sucks for all providers, you get a good agent sometimes, but just sometimes.

Directv just added channels my mother didn't originally order and has charged her for them about 70 dollars extra worth of channels. I helped her set up this account up and over the course of the process spoke with multiple representatives who all said back to me in very clear language that she was getting one particular package and not another for X amount. It was all very clear. This makes me so so so very angry. Cause frankly I don't have time to deal with sht like this. My mom is old and now I am the one who is going to have to call idiot Directv and straighten this out.

DirecTV doesn't care about the customer. They care about "activations". I've been a loyal subscriber for 9 years. I called to replace my ancient HR20 and they offered a "free" upgrade (2 year commitment) with a $49 install fee. The rep said he couldn't wave the $49. Ridiculous. I can hook it up myself.
DirectTV reps were friendly, but unhelpful.
And DirecTV is still charging a $10 HD fee for HD channels. Hasn't the country switched to HD? Ridicuolous.
    Adios DirecTV! Good Job!

You have to submit it before your grandparents activate. if you don't have a computer call directv and they can submit rebates for you. but the dish vs directv thing is all prefference. dish is cheaper by like $5-10 but also you get less channels in each package, and the HD channels are HD part time not full time, also the hopper is moot since dtv has tivo receivers. so its either pay less and get less or pay a little more and get more

I've gotton a lot of discounts and promotional stuff from them just by calling them and asking. Direct shows a lower price on paper for the intro 12mo but then the price skyrockets. I had cox tv 14 years ago and got tired of their poor service, constantly raising prices and outages. I moved to Dish and found their prices just as good if not better than anyone out there. Anytime I have issues, I am able to contact customer service within a few minutes if not immediately and they are Always helpful and resolve my problems. I constantly hear complaints about Directtv and everyone who has any issue with Comcast say they are absolutely the worst (check out people who have had to deal with them, on youtube and the net). No company is perfect and I am not affiliated with Dish in any way, but I "always" recommend them to others because they have treated me right for over 14 years. That is my experience with Dish

I'm a former installer for Directv and I have to say that it's all about customer experience. Sometimes your experience is based on your status, where you live, who you are, what company installed your service whether in house or contractor. I've had customers who have had it with Directv until I got there and turned the experience around and then they are happy enough to recommend the company. I've had former dish network customers same thing and when I'm done they swore that Directv is now the only company for them. in every company there are great employees and shit ones

Also if your "Friends" did sign up with a third party marketing firm in side of a retailer e.g. Best Buy they probably opped out of the referal to get a better deal for themselves. example being they take your 100 bucks or they take the 10 bucks off a month for the year (120) plus they get whatever other discount that the retailer was providing. which i know right now our best buy is offering a 150 gift card to customers that sign up inside of best buy. Plus your deal is in writing.

Hate to break it to you, but DISH NETWORK and DIRECT TV are six of one and half a dozen of another. They BOTH have huge first bills. Which often include partial first month, first full month and those hidden taxes and fees. Plus, and I stress this as I sold both, they often do not give discounts the way they make it sound. Most appear over months, on the third or sixth month's bill. They all have India customer service, both mainly use private installers (Who install for both) and are a mess!!!

Maybe if you have 4-5 tv's with the Hopper. But the regular price on the top 200 (which had 220+ channels) Is $64.99. How much do you think that would cost with Direct.. or with Cable. Comcast charges between 15.95-26.96 per HD/DVR on each tv. That means that with 4 tv's you could pay as much as 107.80 on equipment alone. With direct it would cost you about 43 and with dish 33 and the programming is cheaper. Criticize but don;t lie.
