    I heard all I needed to hear by the 1:19 mark. There's really no substitute for a brass
    trumpet. The pTrumpet also has its drawbacks especially in the lower register.

      I keep meaning to do a little video of how I decided to just get a cheap cornet for my 8-year-old. It's pretty beat up, but it's a Getzen and it plays very fine for a student horn.

    Thanks for the review. Sounds like the valves may be mis-aligned. Guess you tried turning them around till you hear the click(at least that works with a normal trumpet)? Been contemplating getting a plastic trumpet mainly for weight advantage but if they're all as bad as this sounds then maybe I should just go for a lighter metal one...

      I did spin them and tried to find the correct position but I suspect it was more about the diameter of the valve relative to the casing ... plastic, not a tight enough fit, etc. I have heard that more expensive plastic trumpets play better and a colleague of mine has a pTrumpet that he says plays very nicely. I just decided to go with a used cornet for my purposes (learning horn for a younger kid) and have been satisfied with that, though weight is still a drawback going that direction. Thanks for the comment and best wishes in finding a horn that will suit your needs!

    I have a pBone trombone and it has the same kind of problem with the different note registers being very sloppy/slidey.

    Seems like there's a leak somewhere? Waterkey Cork issue? But yeah, great review thanks!

    • @ndrwcmpt1
      @ndrwcmpt1  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the comment! I wondered if it was the waterkey, but that was sealed pretty good. I think it had to do with how the valves were drilled so the air was just escaping into the valve casing. It didn't help when I covered the bottom caps with my fingers, so that might not have been the only leak. The slides were pretty loose as well, so perhaps a combination of things.

    I have a ptrumpet and while the pitch is terrible and notes can be lip-bent more than on a conventional trumpet, harmonics are still solid, square blocks. It’s impossible NOT to find the middle G on the pTrumpet. That doesn’t seem to be the case with thst Pampet. Maybe the one you ordered is defective? Did it appear like it was opened and shipped back to Amazon for a refund? It definitely sounds like there’s a hole somewhere close to or on the lead pipe.

      Thanks for the comment! I've heard good things about the pTrumpet ... a friend has one and has had good success with it. It could be that my Pampet was a one-off problem, but I've been unable to find very many video reviews showing its possibilities. There are a couple out there, but I can't tell if they're legit or not. I do think the leak is in the valve assembly rather than the lead pipe, but at the end of the day, the leak is a deal breaker. I finally ended up just purchasing a HEAVILY used Getzen cornet which has good working valves and a nice sound! Will add a follow up video sometime when I have a chance!

      @@ndrwcmpt1 Hi! I thought of this today : the fact that a defective ‘new’ Pampet got into your hands shows the lack of proper quality control. It also shows the manufacturer’s obliviousness that some of the people who’ll buy their plastic trumpet have very visible YT channels that deal in musical instruments. That, in itself, is a deal breaker. For comparison, I paid $100 (Canadian dollars) for a brand new pTrumpet, and I find that very hard to beat. You did the right thing by getting that Getzen cornet. Given the choice I’d rather play on a good cornet than on a good trumpet. It’s just such an enjoyable instrument to play. Cheers.

      @@etiennedauphin Excellent observation re: quality control issues. I think you're exactly right and am surprised that the company hasn't thought about it. With the pTrumpet, they've poured plenty of money and effort into getting a range of professionals to play their horns on video. That not only gives them a wide advertising reach, but forces them to provide a similar product to the public who watch the videos.

    • @ndrwcmpt1
      @ndrwcmpt1  2 года назад +1

      Oh, and re: the cornet--it has worked so well for its intended purpose: giving my 8-year-old a working horn to learn on. The light weight of the plastic trumpet was what I had in mind for her, but the shorter reach of the cornet has made up for that heavier weight. Unfortunately I don't have a mouthpiece of my own that fits the cornet so I have to play her 7C, but it has made a world of difference for her and she's making the advances she is because of a quality (though definitely heavily used) instrument! Thanks again for your comments!

    What if you used the plastic mouthpiece?

    • @ndrwcmpt1
      @ndrwcmpt1  2 года назад +1

      I did try the plastic mouthpiece, but the problem was with the horn itself. In some ways, the regular trumpet mouthpiece was an improvement on the sound, but in the end the leaks in the horn did not allow the buzz to translate into a nice tone from either the plastic or the metal mouthpiece. After trying out the Kaizer trumpet, I was reminded that the Pampet did have smoother valves, but I just couldn't get a quality tone ... thanks for the comment!

      @@ndrwcmpt1 in the meantime, I purchased a King 2070 C trumpet. Night and day. A well built C trumpet is as easy to play as Bb, minus the fact that the fingering vs sound is one step off. That's actually a bit unsettling to me. But I am pleased with a well built C trumpet. Do let us know how others of these inexpensive horns turn out.
