LIGHTWEIGHT
Si tu vois ma mère is a famous theme by Sidney Bechet (1897-1959) that became very popular when it was first recorded, in 1952, but returned to the general public years later as the main theme from Woody Allen's film Midnight in Paris, in 2011.
This theme (with a structure not very common in the swing style ABAC and usually played slowly) in many versions tends to sound drawn out, cumbersome and even sad.
In contrast, in this version of Professor Cunningham and His Old School it sounds tremendously light. Everything floats gently, moving with powerful majesty and elegance.
This is a credit to all musicians but, in this case, very especially to Gerard Nieto. Listen carefully to his piano. From the first chords it already prints this tender character, very rhythmic but flexible, syncopated but soft. Splendid!!!!!
