I also used to work as a scientist, so I understand what you´ve meant about the travelling. I am glad that you shared your country of origin. From the times when I travelled with my parents as a child, I consider our holidays in Bulgaria to be the best ones. Except of a lots of dead jellyfish on the shore, everything else was literally perfect.
Ohhh how wonderful that you have visited Bulgaria. Nooo you have just been super unlucky. Usually the jellyfish are swimming happily at the deeper parts and rarely appear around the shore.
Loving these collabs with my 2 favorites!! Really enjoy listening to you nerd out-I’m a nerd from way back and it’s the unbridled enthusiasm that I love the most. My “aha” moment was also learning about the transition shade (during lockdown when I started watching RUclips) and extending that transition to the lower lash line, which I would previously leave bare (not even mascara). I think VBB might be more of option although my collection there is also somewhat limited. I’m so glad to hear it! I don’t have the quad you have because it’s not in their baked formula (which is my absolute favorite!) but I did swatch it in store and it felt absolutely beautiful.

@@mariam.a. you know weirdly, mascara was one of the last makeup products I started using daily 😅 I would wear a full face and no mascara 😂 must have looked so strange, but at the time when I was used to how I looked without mascara, it felt too much when I applied it. Now I’m used to seeing myself with mascara so I feel I look weird without it!

I also realy love my job, working in a beautiful fabricstore is heaven for me. While I was listening to you, I made 2 new shirts😊, and have so other things to make, like 2 skirt, which a design my own pattern for it, because I couldn't find a pattern for it. I didn't have enough shirts, so I bought a lot of colors in the same fabric, so I can match them with the skirts. (I'm making new clothes to take with me on Holiday to Greece, in the past I made a bunch of bikini's, so I'm covered with those😅) When I make my clothes I always listen to RUclips (podcasts) Iike: crime, or listen to Charlotte Holdcraft or watch other people who make clothes. But also realy love to watch Triny and Karen Britchick, they are so much fun and positive It's bin a while for me, to talk with you, there was a lot of grive, my mom died last year having lowybody (demensia), my dad had a heartattack (he is doing fine again, but it was a very big shock). And our beloved cat Doerak died, he was getting worse by kidneyfale, when he died, I completly collepsed, how I missed my mom even more. I'm doing much better, my hubs and other cats are a big support. Love these collaborative videos! Your answer to the most beautiful place you’ve visited was lovely. It really is the memories of time spent with our families and friends that make places beautiful. The fact that you are able to extend those memories to include your husband and son is wonderful. I started out thinking the south of France, but have now changed my answer to local beaches where I camped with my husband,daughter, and fur babies. I’d take a loan out to buy a palette that was a Mariam x PML collab😊

Haha I realized after editing the video that I sound like such a dork!! But I forgot to mention that my biggest fantasy career is my cat sanctuary….my job revolving around cats, hell to the yes. I think when I decide to declutter my curated Z palettes, I will replace with Lisa Eldriege palettes, Sorcery and one of the neutral. I swatched also Meet Me In Berlin and Spirited Away. I was wearing Painterly, and Iulia Affair and Meet Me in Berlin. We chatted about your influence on us when we were looking at the makeups (we primarily went on a perfume sniffari). We checked out the Prada and I swatched some of the Gucci blushes which will be on the wishlist when I soon finish my Kosas blush ❤

I just started testing the LE mascara after I initially did not want to as I already have very clear favourites but I have to say I love it. If it now comes in brown too I’m in heaven as the only brown I like is even more expensive than this 🙈🙈

Lisa’s skin tint and the Water Fresh Tint are very different from each other, imho! They’re both beautiful but the LE one is much more of an everyday skin tint for me.
@@mariam.a. more coverage, less dewey, equally light on the skin. I would go for the Chanel one for hot summer evenings and will probably put away the LE tint when I’m out of the office for the summer, if that makes any sense!

Regarding the missing mascara: I think any look is always more sophisticated and polished with the application of it. But currently I'm looking for looks without it. Sometimes my eyes are tired and always watery. I need to have a very sturdy formula to keep it going for 10 hours +. So I'm trying something more eccentric/different. I like it but I feel strange. I think it's about the matter of getting used to it😅
Oh I didn’t realize you were a scientist! That’s probably why I like your approach - I did physics 😅 - but I also got out of the academia path - late 20’s, lots of debt from undergrad school, very little money to be made, I would,have had to leave everyone to go to a different country, and I wouldn’t have my family now … it would,have been fun, but it’s a solo path of poverty - my friend, who is the smartest person in our class and many classes before and after, also never got a tenure track … shocking really … and he still gave up a lot - but I found a really fun science job so I made the right decision
Yes molecular biologist 👩🏻🔬🥰. I did leave my country of origin to follow the dream but drew the line at living like a nomad in my 30s for little pay and even less guaranteed success. You absolutely did!! Physics is awesome!!!
Oooh I think that you would really enjoy coding, there are some issues that we have no idea why they occurred (seriously, it still happens for some reason, nondeterministic functions are hell to debug and sometimes there are deeper rooted issues already pre-existing in the technology we are using), but still it's really fun to be able to experiment with the code - what will happen if I change one thing and what will happen if I decide to change another thing - and then be able to see the results pretty fast. It would be awesome if we were able to debug and experiment in the same way in biology, medicine could advance so much and we would know so much about our bodies and illnesses. And your answer to the question about the most beautiful place has really resonated with me - when I heard the question first in Martina's video, I was like… I don't know, probably many places I consider beautiful are that way because of the memories I have connected to them and it's very hard for me to separate „objective” beauty of a place from my feelings and memories. It's nice to hear that someone has a similar view of that and that I'm not just indecisive.
As much as I love experimental biology it has major limitations because we can never really experiment in humans right (except of course clinical trials) so everything we do in model systems is our best approximation. Coding is much more straightforward that way. Although there depending on what you tell the code to do it can spit out totally different results. I think both are like solving a puzzle (which is the thing I love most about my job) but in different contexts and with different tools. No you are not alone!! I am super sentimental join the club 😂. We are major weepers here (to quote Judd Law’s character from The Holiday)
Hello Mariam, I love your videos :) This is a long and very personal comment, I hope it's not too much, I promise I am not going to turn into your weird stalker. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the thumbnail for this video because I love Martina Lily *and* my 2 LE eyeshadow palettes are Vega and Sorcery! But I have been off recovering from surgery so I saved it for when I was feeling better and could enjoy it properly. I enjoyed watching this so much, not just the makeup but also what you said about academic careers and the Black Sea. I thought a lot about academic uncertainty when I was in uni - I used to read PhD comics by Jorge Cham! - and I'm only now finding the courage to think about a hybrid career of part-time practice and part time research. As for the Black SeaI related so much, I have my own special sight of the ocean that may not be so beautiful to other people but it's the best place in the world to me... and my dream is one day to see the Black Sea with my friend who lives in Ukraine, she loves the ocean and I pray for the day there is peace and freedom and we can go together. Finally guess what - Martina Lily introduced me to the concept of a transition shade!! Rocked my world lol. Thank you for this video, it sort of feels like the universe giving me an ice cream or something to reward me for making it through a hard time

That’s probably why I like your approach - I did physics 😅 - but I also got out of the academia path - late 20’s, lots of debt from undergrad school, very little money to be made, I would,have had to leave everyone to go to a different country, and I wouldn’t have my family now … it would,have been fun, but it’s a solo path of poverty - my friend, who is the smartest person in our class and many classes before and after, also never got a tenure track … shocking really … and he still gave up a lot - but I found a really fun science job so I made the right decision
Yes molecular biologist 👩🏻🔬🥰. I did leave my country of origin to follow the dream but drew the line at living like a nomad in my 30s for little pay and even less guaranteed success.

Oooh I think that you would really enjoy coding, there are some issues that we have no idea why they occurred (seriously, it still happens for some reason, nondeterministic functions are hell to debug and sometimes there are deeper rooted issues already pre-existing in the technology we are using), but still it's really fun to be able to experiment with the code - what will happen if I change one thing and what will happen if I decide to change another thing - and then be able to see the results pretty fast. It would be awesome if we were able to debug and experiment in the same way in biology, medicine could advance so much and we would know so much about our bodies and illnesses.
And your answer to the question about the most beautiful place has really resonated with me - when I heard the question first in Martina's video, I was like… I don't know, probably many places I consider beautiful are that way because of the memories I have connected to them and it's very hard for me to separate „objective” beauty of a place from my feelings and memories. It's nice to hear that someone has a similar view of that and that I'm not just indecisive.
As much as I love experimental biology it has major limitations because we can never really experiment in humans right (except of course clinical trials) so everything we do in model systems is our best approximation. Coding is much more straightforward that way. Although there depending on what you tell the code to do it can spit out totally different results. I think both are like solving a puzzle (which is the thing I love most about my job) but in different contexts and with different tools.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the thumbnail for this video because I love Martina Lily *and* my 2 LE eyeshadow palettes are Vega and Sorcery! But I have been off recovering from surgery so I saved it for when I was feeling better and could enjoy it properly.
I enjoyed watching this so much, not just the makeup but also what you said about academic careers and the Black Sea. I thought a lot about academic uncertainty when I was in uni - I used to read PhD comics by Jorge Cham! - and I'm only now finding the courage to think about a hybrid career of part-time practice and part time research. As for the Black SeaI related so much, I have my own special sight of the ocean that may not be so beautiful to other people but it's the best place in the world to me... and my dream is one day to see the Black Sea with my friend who lives in Ukraine, she loves the ocean and I pray for the day there is peace and freedom and we can go together.
Finally guess what - Martina Lily introduced me to the concept of a transition shade!! Rocked my world lol.
