Pace notes have always been an integral part of the success of rally drivers. However, at the 2003 running of Rally Acropolis, their importance became all the more magnified.

Another moment like this happened a few years later to Mikko Hirvonen in the RAC rally, wich cost him the tittle.
Another very famous case from the late 60s is Timo Mäkinen, with his Mini Cooper, driving with the bonnet up, in Ouninpohja and still getting the 2nd fastest stage time.

Apparently Timo tried to stick his helmet out of the window but got stuck halfway and drove the rest of the stage like that
