I used to have this V50. I also had a Yamaha DX11. I sold both to a friend when I bought my Roland XP80 workstation. I still have the workstation but I am redoing it. Having to reapply new gorilla glue to the semi weights after the red epoxy broke down and ran throughout the keys and inside. I just bought a Roland FA07 workstation but I don't like it. I am taking it back. My friend still had the two I sold to him and was kept in storage. Well, he died from covid and his brother has his stuff now. I miss my Yamaha V50 and my DX11. Enjoy this one brother.
I owned one back in 1990, it can make a lot using dual combinations of sounds, touch sensitivity offers musically creative performances of some sounds, like basses, and DSP built-in helps a lot when creating arrangmens using its drum and sequencer facilities. I used it both in studio and on gigs with Kawai K4 and this gear worked well at the time, and I am sure it would serve as well today when used intelligently.
I had a V50 back in the day, right after it came out. Played some gigs and connected it to a Korg M3R for some of them. Those were the days. Now I'm starting to get interested again and am looking at new workstations from Roland (e.g. Fantom-06) and Yamaha (e.g. MODX6). Keep playing and creating y'all!
I still have my V50. Most people never got into programming it creatively. With 8 voices it could make some fairly big sounds. I made this dance track in the 90s almost entirely with a V50 sounds ruclips.net/video/5uRSmt-dfxE/видео.html
Might be worth exploring the power of the synth in "Performance" mode to really thicken up the sounds. I'm sure you could easily create a speaker rattling bass sound.
The V50 is KILLER FOR BASS. Even in single mode. I know because I have a DX11. And the V50 is basically the same engine with a sequencer and effects. The DX11 can produce bass that can give anything a run for its money. Including a minimoog. Its got this fat round bottom end. And can womp and make any speakers earn their keep. Ive done the rhythm tracks for BILLIE JEAN AND ADAMSKI KILLER with the DX11..
So this feature if available on synthesisers is called key split, sometimes there is a dedicated button for it, otherwise sometime you have to go into each sounds settings and set a key range. Either way you'll have to look at the manual, I do not own this keyboard anymore. Cheers
Hey great demo, I had a few questions on the synth. Firstly, how is the keybed? Do you find 4 operators limiting? And otherwise how do you like the keyboard, just generally.
Hi Daniyal, I never really tried patch editing with the operators as FM synthesis hurts my brain trying to work it out, so I couldn't really tell you if 4 ops it limiting. As for the rest of the keyboard, I actually really like it, everything about it feels really solid. Its very heavy as well feels like it will last forever. Thanks for watching :)
Burnie Bee Thanks for the quick reply. I'm actually picking one up today for $100. So I guess you'd reccommend it. Seems like a good way for me to add an FM synth to my setup.
Daniyal Ahmed wow that's a bargain, I'm expecting delivery of one off eBay, cost me £165 in UK. Can't wait, last used one 30 years ago, looking forward to being reacquainted with one.
Javier Legy The Juno D has been well and truly surpassed by the Juno Di and DS. I have owned a Juno D in the past, if you can get hold of a Juno DS, the sounds and effects are actually quite good and you also get a phrase sequencer, load additional soundbanks from the axial site (and it can run on batteries). The DS is a awesome keyboard and I use mine regularly. Cheers

I have one on the way from Japan. I will feature it on my channel and start putting some compositions together from April. Real excited about it.

So true! I am still missing this synth. I sold it many years ago. It was my best partner for 25 years. It has a great sequencer.

Loved the Wolfenstein throwback!

I have mine too. Will check your video out :)
It has 16 voices though hasn‘t it?
Back in 1990 when i wanted to live in the synth shop!
I know right, staff would listen to me banging on keyboards whether they liked it or not
Ahhhh! Memories.
Props to a fellow djx user 🤛
YUMMMMM...sounds like my DX 100 with FX....

I’m a pianist but a beginner for keyboard. Can you kindly teach me how to separate two sounds at different bars please?

Does it have the same keybed as the DX7?
Couldn't tell you, I've never had a Dx7. I do remember the build quality was pretty sturdy though.
nice, are these factory patches?
Yeah I believe they are, I don't own it anymore but patch editing was complicated from what I remember

Daniyal Ahmed $100 is a steal! I paid $1700 for one back in 89
Ended up buying an SY77 and Casio VZ-1 for $170 for both. What a solid purchase
Cool
Hello. Which song does the minute belong to 9:58?
