Dxee is basically hi res: ''DSEE uses complex calculations and predictions to make low-resolution files sound almost like High-Resolution Audio.'' Its probable not as good as Dsee ultimate, or DSD lvl of quality I would guess(if there is such on xm5). I got premium dac's but none does what dsee from sony, wavy bass, which is more emphasized on these bass centric headphones, more hearable on ULT1, not sure how it is in other modes.
@@explodingheavens yep it’s an upscaler and it works well enough. Its max frequency response is listed as only 20khz though. It needs double of that to match Hi-Res FR specs.
It's very important to mention that the ULT button settings are ALL USER DEFINED. The video gives the incorrect impression that you're stuck with that really boomy ULT2. You're not. You can set each of the three ULT button settings (off, ULT1, and ULT2) to whatever you want them to be, and use the button to easily toggle between your three chosen bass presets. That is the selling point of this model, and everyone who is thinking about getting them needs to understand this. I've seen barely any reviewers actually point this out. They make it seem like ULT1 and ULT2 are non-changeable bass boosts that you're stuck with as the only 2 options for the button. Not accurate. Make ULT2 be Clear Bass +1 if that's what you want it to be.
Great video! Question, when you adjust the EQ in the app, does it push the settings "into" the headphones and program them to stay that way? In other words, will they be saved into the headphones and play that way no matter what devise you use? Or, is teh Sony mobil app always required to hear the EQ settings?
Is Sony finally looking back at us bass heads? It's been so long since we got a bit of love from Sony, but these headphones are here for us. I'm so happy! I cannot wait to buy them, I think for the first time, the price would be 100% worth.

The professionals who mixed and mastered all this music know what they're doing so I don't really think we should be adding a bunch of bass lol modern music already has a ton of bass as it is But I also listen to different music maybe and I'm a musician so maybe I'm being snob

They seem a bit to big... Idk if I can walk around with it. The XM4 for me is the best size and fit. Mine broke recently (my fault) so I'm looking for a new one. I wish they made this one a bit smaller tho, would've been a perfect replacement.

Hi Rikukona, what was the reason you sold your skullvandy crusher Evo? Because I have one now.. I asked for inanse bass , and oh boy this insane. The problem with skullcrusher for me, its sometimes to much overwelming.. If I shuffle the bass button like 2mm above its moooore then enouhg holy fuck, its like sitting between 4 subwoofers from 1000watt. The whole set litarly shakes.. But for techno en elctro is the ulitmate headset in my opinion.. Heavy metal is awesome but the balance between the bass en voice / guitars isnt what I want.. Tried like 5 differect eq defaults. Do you think this headset will be better ? I want BASS , but I also need voice and high tones. I miss balance in de skull headsets. I going try this headset and hope this will be the one 😂😂😂
@@Lagerta11 Sorry for the late reply. Yes, as you mentioned, the issue for me is that the low bass is too rumbling for my ears and it lingers too long. Now, I prefer a fast, punchy bass. I enjoy EDM a lot, such as Andromedik, Deadmau5, and Avicii. Currently, my daily go-to is the IEM 7HZ Legato because of its bass quality. However, I now want to switch back to headphones with more bass. I've come across a new one called the Sonic Lamb headphone, which claims to have a built-in subwoofer. I'd like to try this headphone, but unfortunately, I can't find it for sale in my country. So, after hearing about this Sony Ult Wear, I really, really want to give it a try. I wish I had the money for it, haha!

bass guy myself, into rap, hip hop, trap, EDM so all should work well. ULT 2 definitely too much bass as from other reviews and yours I got the idea like its car speakers that when too much its distorted. Will consider it but will want to watch your next comparison video to get a better idea

Hi, Thank you for the review, I use xb900n headphones which are still good for me, but I'm looking at these new bass headphones from Sony. Please tell me if the equalizer works in the Sony app in this model of headphones when using the "LDAC" codec, since the xb900n equalizer only works when the ACC and SBS codec are enabled. This information is very important for me, because if the equalizer is still unavailable in the new headphones in the "ldaс" codec, then I don't see any point in changing my XB900n headphones to this new model

I am still rocking my WH-XB900Ns which where and are still a great pair of bass enthusiasts headphones without going overkill like the Skullkandy Chrusher. Because I was disappointed in the XB910n headphones since they were reported to have around 20% less bass I skipped those. Now that Sony has something new for this nieche to offer I would really like to know how they compare to the XB900n and XB910n because I am lookong for an upgrade of mine. The noise canceling on my XB900n is somewhat uselessness and if the ULT WEAR delivers on the NC capability while providing better bass than the XB900n I am definetly going to buy the ULT WEAR headphones.
I love mine, but i wish the anc was a bit better. I can still pick up the train and jet noises. My soundcore space a40 earbuds block out more, but these are super fun with bass songs.
i don't mind Sony's idea here but they started the bass boost way too high in the frequency range. i think they should have ramped it up below 80hz. it just muddies the sound otherwise. ULT off is actually not a bad looking curve.

Wondering how they are compared to the v-moda crossfade 3 wireless sound vise. The crossfade dont have anc though. But are very durable. Lots of metal parts.
I'm a BASS head and your reaction when wearing it makes me happy. I hope this feature comes with the M6. Now that you want to relax, BASS is the last thing you think about when you're relaxing, so it's good to have variable options.
I have them, they balance the bass and sound equally. Making them sound like subwoofers with amps. They don't have the problem that the xb910's had where at volume 80, the bass is loud but everything else is kind of quiet, but past volume 80 it's vice versa.
@@jaykami2474 Often when listening to quiet music, the sound is low or high in the middle. This is because the elements have good ANC, so it is important to remove the variable BASS. There is EQ, but imagine how many times you will change it a day, it will be annoying.
What do you call it when someone just wants it to sound as neutral/accurate as possible? A flat head? Is a flat head. I don't think I know better than mixing and mastering engineers so I never mess with EQs unless the headphones have a real deficiency

ULT 2 must have a lot of bass if it's too much for bass heads like you. How does the ULT button on the headphones work? Does it toggle on-off (with on-level being set on a phone), or does it cycle through bass 0-1-2 ?
lol I wasn't expecting for new Sony release. I'm very surprised with this new Sony headphone. Even so I'll wait for the xm6 hoping it will come foldable and offering manual ANC control as the xm4. Those are the points that stopped me to buy the xm5. Btw, Rurouni Kenshin?
Crazy thing(like good crazy lol) about these headphones is, you can boost highs in app and it will sound great. I'm used to listen bass and loud ones sometimes using powerful amp, with xm4 hitting limit just at medium volume from that view. Funny thing is you can listen to anything on these ult wears, without worry even with tamed bass, you won't hit the limit. As opposed also to samples from these I listen to now, my headphones just can't take that beating XD. ANC felt good, also graph says about constant -25dB to -40dB highs, with more cut mids, but not very low bass, and I felt it now, xm3/xm4 are still leading in that sense. So when purchasing it would be either less background noise or limitless bass, but even if its obvious bass choice for me, ultwear got some serious ANC bass aside, nothing like xb910n which didn't cover any bass. Whats interesting tho is impedance when jack is used and headphones are on or off, off 32ohm, on 100+ohm, or something similar, sounds clearly to push that bass. Whats interesting tho, EQ is quite dark, but not too much, I've seen worse. It feels quite raw tho, like ''cheap'' headphones, I mean - without any tuning. You basically have to tune them up to sound good.
Sony would actually do better to release an XM5 Ultra headphone. The problem with bluetooth headphones, and I suppose earbuds as well, is that you are basically forced to choose between top of the line ANC and top sound quality. If you want top ANC, you have buy Sony or Bose. If you want great sound, you must buy Senheiser, B&W, Bang & Olufsen, etc. You basically can't get both in one product. Sony knows how to make great sounding products. They have decades of experience with amps and speakers. They can easily make a headphone that rivals the brands mentioned above in terms of sound quality with their S tier ANC, comfort and charge $600. I'm pretty sure there would be many many takers for such a product.
Can anyone help me compare the sound quality and features between the ULT and the first gen AirPod pros? I have the Pros but have been looking for a good over ear set of headphones for my traveling.

I have a slight feeling that this might be a little hint on what the XM6 design language will look like, hinting that it might also have folding earcups again... we can only wait
They would be smart to use this ULT design for XM6... they fixed the hinge breaking problem with the XM4 (when they swiveled, there was a non-round piece that would stick out and not be flush against the rest of the round headband piece, which would get caught on things and cause breakage... now with the ULT, it's all flush with the rest of the headband as it swivels). They should use this same foldable design, but with more premium plastic for the XM6.
I currently own XM5 headphones, but one part where I can't agree is, the heat building up from the cushions compared to XM series, because even the XM series builds heat after an hour of usage or so, and its doesn't look good for such premium headphones 11:02 . My suggestion, if you are worried about heat building up because of the cushions, no headphone is different, just go with the one that fits with your needs rather than price.

I am having a very hard time discerning a difference between these an the XB910 besides it looking slightly better asthetically and having a wear sensor. The mic and ANC don't seem much better if at all. Hard to say if transparency is improved. In any case im not seeing the point of refreshing this product really.

Hey there. I own a pair of AirPods Pro 2nd Gen and a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3, which are very similar to the XM4. First of all, I personally think the XM4 is better than the Momentum 4 in every way. Especially when it comes to Noise-Cancellation. The XM4 and AirPods Pro 2 are very different products, and thus have very different strengths. I would honestly recommend that you buy both if you can afford it. The AirPods Pro 2 are extremely comfortable. You can wear them all day and barely notice you are wearing them. They have good sound and a bit of Noise Cancelling ability. The AirPods Pro 2 are great for when you're exercising, or casually listening to something on your computer at home, or to use when you either get fatigued or too hot from wearing over ears after a while. The XM4, being over ears, have vastly better Noise Cancelling compared to the AirPods Pro 2. Vastly better. I would prefer to use these in a noisy office environment or in busy public spaces. They also have significantly better sound than the AirPods Pro 2. You will hear details in songs that you know that you have never noticed before. However, they can easily slip off of your head when exercising, can put a bit of pressure on your ears, and can get hot after a while. They're generally very comfortable, but not at all in the way that the AirPods Pro 2 are comfortable to wear.

I wasn't expecting for new Sony release. I'm very surprised with this new Sony headphone.
Even so I'll wait for the xm6 hoping it will come foldable and offering manual ANC control as the xm4. Those are the points that stopped me to buy the xm5.

So this is actually the XB920, just not branded as such to counter the people who complain that Sony's model names aren't snappy and memorable.

Crazy thing(like good crazy lol) about these headphones is, you can boost highs in app and it will sound great.
I'm used to listen bass and loud ones sometimes using powerful amp, with xm4 hitting limit just at medium volume from that view.
Funny thing is you can listen to anything on these ult wears, without worry even with tamed bass, you won't hit the limit.
As opposed also to samples from these I listen to now, my headphones just can't take that beating XD.
ANC felt good, also graph says about constant -25dB to -40dB highs, with more cut mids, but not very low bass, and I felt it now, xm3/xm4 are still leading in that sense.
So when purchasing it would be either less background noise or limitless bass, but even if its obvious bass choice for me, ultwear got some serious ANC bass aside, nothing like xb910n which didn't cover any bass.
Whats interesting tho is impedance when jack is used and headphones are on or off, off 32ohm, on 100+ohm, or something similar, sounds clearly to push that bass.
Whats interesting tho, EQ is quite dark, but not too much, I've seen worse. It feels quite raw tho, like ''cheap'' headphones, I mean - without any tuning. You basically have to tune them up to sound good.
They’re very versatile indeed. I don’t regret buying them.

Sony would actually do better to release an XM5 Ultra headphone.
The problem with bluetooth headphones, and I suppose earbuds as well, is that you are basically forced to choose between top of the line ANC and top sound quality.
If you want top ANC, you have buy Sony or Bose. If you want great sound, you must buy Senheiser, B&W, Bang & Olufsen, etc. You basically can't get both in one product.
Sony knows how to make great sounding products. They have decades of experience with amps and speakers.
They can easily make a headphone that rivals the brands mentioned above in terms of sound quality with their S tier ANC, comfort and charge $600. I'm pretty sure there would be many many takers for such a product.

Can anyone help me compare the sound quality and features between the ULT and the first gen AirPod pros? I have the Pros but have been looking for a good over ear set of headphones for my traveling.

They would be smart to use this ULT design for XM6... they fixed the hinge breaking problem with the XM4 (when they swiveled, there was a non-round piece that would stick out and not be flush against the rest of the round headband piece, which would get caught on things and cause breakage... now with the ULT, it's all flush with the rest of the headband as it swivels). They should use this same foldable design, but with more premium plastic for the XM6.
To me the XM4 is good enough for me and I'm a BASS ZOMBIE
I currently own XM5 headphones, but one part where I can't agree is, the heat building up from the cushions compared to XM series, because even the XM series builds heat after an hour of usage or so, and its doesn't look good for such premium headphones 11:02 . My suggestion, if you are worried about heat building up because of the cushions, no headphone is different, just go with the one that fits with your needs rather than price.

How do i turn on/off the Mic while being on a call?
I am having a very hard time discerning a difference between these an the XB910 besides it looking slightly better asthetically and having a wear sensor.
The mic and ANC don't seem much better if at all. Hard to say if transparency is improved. In any case im not seeing the point of refreshing this product really.
Does your ears vibrate during ULT2 mode? I missed that feeling in some of the old school headphones

Hey there. I own a pair of AirPods Pro 2nd Gen and a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3, which are very similar to the XM4.
First of all, I personally think the XM4 is better than the Momentum 4 in every way. Especially when it comes to Noise-Cancellation.
The XM4 and AirPods Pro 2 are very different products, and thus have very different strengths. I would honestly recommend that you buy both if you can afford it.
The AirPods Pro 2 are extremely comfortable. You can wear them all day and barely notice you are wearing them. They have good sound and a bit of Noise Cancelling ability. The AirPods Pro 2 are great for when you're exercising, or casually listening to something on your computer at home, or to use when you either get fatigued or too hot from wearing over ears after a while.
The XM4, being over ears, have vastly better Noise Cancelling compared to the AirPods Pro 2. Vastly better. I would prefer to use these in a noisy office environment or in busy public spaces. They also have significantly better sound than the AirPods Pro 2. You will hear details in songs that you know that you have never noticed before. However, they can easily slip off of your head when exercising, can put a bit of pressure on your ears, and can get hot after a while. They're generally very comfortable, but not at all in the way that the AirPods Pro 2 are comfortable to wear.
