pfffff. "look sportive, wear camo or working gear." sounds far better to me. Add to that a brain mass that makes interesting stuff come out the talkyhole can't possibly be overstated. From the day my parents accidentally put working class kid me into a rich brats school (around the age of10), I was wondering why the hell would I ever pick a girl who makes herself into a "I'm completely shallow and useless and my beauty doesn't allow me to do ANYTHING, I could break off my expensive nails!"
@@becsingleton7951 I'm not sure Eurocentrism is an independent tendency. European people (Whites) are generally wealthier than people of any other ethnic group.
@@appa609 In the early 14th century, Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt sent an envoy to the Mongol Empire. Ghazan Khan who ruled the Middle East(and thus over most of the known races in Eurasia at the time) boasted to him "Look how beautiful Mongol women are! You don't have such women in your country, do you?" No wonder, because the wealthiest women in his realm must have been Mongol aristocratic ladies in his court.
Another banger... Just for future reference, (from an Australian that's trying to save you from other Australians mocking you), we pronounce it Mel-bin, and just in case it comes up Canberra is pronounced Can-bra, and Brisbane is Briz-bin.
I had to pause this around the 3 minute mark... I grew up on a beach. Me, oh so hwyte, so frail. I have been sunburned many a time in my youth. I surfed, I skated, I loved being outside! But then I GREW UP. I my late teens and early 20s, I began to truly question why some folks CHOSE to lay in the sunlight, and burn their skin. All the time, I got to see People just laying around, some even going to establishments to lay in a MACHINE to get tan. WHY?! It was around this time as well, that I also really began to DESPISE the Sun. That damn thing is HOT, and it BURNS YOUR SKIN. And I still don't get it, some 30 years later. Y'all are insane to want that look. I'll stay in the shade, TYVM
I pride my graveyard worker tan. Sunburned neck and lower arms, rest white as snow. Unlike regular construction workers, working topless on graveyard is considered rude. And yes, without direct sunlight the job is A LOT easier.
It's pretty simple. You, in your youth, is the person all those people in tanning salons are trying to emulate. They want to look like active outdoorsy people who surf and swim and skate.

I'm curious to what extent increased body hair removal might be attributable to the fluctuating parameters of whiteness. IDK, my sister's a natural blonde and it's _much_ less noticeable when she forgets to shave than when I do.
Creatives should be the ones who set the beauty standard because we are the people who try to harness humanity's beauty in all it's forms, and colors lol. (Jk kinda, but seriously I hate how rich people get to set standards, meanwhile they won't hesitate to take up anything poor people like.)
I've watched your videos on tiktok and due to you being a first worlder I thought you'd be a trotskyite or some sort of shit, I even commented about it (honestly thought you were worse, a dem supporter), I was pleasantly surprised to read that you are a true ML. Today I opened up my RUclips to see your channel recommended, didn't even know you had one, what an insane coincidence. Absolutely subbed, comrade, may you and you channel prosper for many years to come.
I just wish we could go back to a time of more obtainable beauty standards, everyone now has same face syndrome and there are less people with unique facial features, hair and bodies 😔 unfortunately capitalism wants to erase true beauty which can only come from individuality and plastic surgery is being used to erase uniqueness
Personally i think most people are beautiful in their own way, and when you get to know someones personality its easier to appreciate the special look and behavior that person has, i think the only real universal beauty standard should be that people stay healthy and that they take time out of theyre they to work on their look
Well after living in Europe from 1999 till December 2021 the last 6 in Copenhagen I have to say I kinda forgot how overweight my fellow Americans are. In Denmark everyone rides bicycles from the earliest age I just got used to a relatively fit population. That means more fit women per capita. As an old man of 64 who remembers the 70s quite well we just weren't such an overweight society. So all my 1st girlfriends were hippie/alternachicks until the mid 90s and had leg hair etc. Who cares not me.
I think it's a problem of no communities. When we're sole individuals the looks is all that matters. Like when you see the freshmen students at the Uni you can get the feeling like they're all rich as hell. And you'll be judged based on how rich you look. Which is crazy. In my community, surrounded by my friends it doesn't matter at all. Yet we all take good care of ourselves and I think we're beautiful haha. But it doesn't come from the symbols of status.
I feel like it's so easy to fall prey to capitalistic beauty standards because it's obvious that being seen as attractive (especially if you're perceived as female) means overall people will like you more, treat you better, and give you more attention. It means you will have more dating options, because who people are physically attracted to is greatly influenced by beauty standards. Even if you become aware of this, it takes work to undo this conditioning, and there's only so much you can do. Being attractive even gives you better chances of being hired for a job, and sometimes directly influences your success at your job. Simply put, those who are conventionally attractive are socially rewarded, and it's truly fucked that it works this way.
And as a trans woman my sense of beauty standards is extra fucked because they're literally tied up with whether I'm even perceived as my gender. People in my community routinely conflate "passing" with one's adherence to white patriarchal beauty standards. We will tell other trans women how gorgeous they are in response to them feeling dysphoric or like they don't pass, as if being beautiful means passing as cisgender.
Not really, no, and she also touches on that point in the video. It's not a problem to want to be beautiful, or beautifying yourself. The problem is capitalism manufacturing insecurities that they can then "fix" by selling a product to people, especially when it goes hand in hand with lying about or downplaying the risks of the products, and shaming the people who don't want to take part in using whatever product or even shaming people who _do_ use some products. That latter part for example very often happens when women cut their hair short/bald or have breast reduction surgeries because "that's not normal/beautiful" even when those situations were caused by acute health issues. There's some cases where an insurance company has claimed that a breast enlargement would be covered but a breast reduction for health reasons would not be because "it's a cosmetic procedure only". So, using make-up is fine. Not using make-up is fine. Shaming a person for using or not using make-up with the intent of changing their behavior against their own will, especially for you to profit out of the result, is not fine.
@@breh9243 I meant women are often shamed for shaving their heads even when they have to do it because of health issues, or losing their hair because of cancer for example. Not that the shaving causes any health issues. Men do beautify themselves. Using make-up is not as common (at least partly because it's been shamed as being "unmanly") but is still done. There's a huge amount of different kinds of beard and moustache care products, and lots of men also shave or wax their chest hair. The male beauty standard is also much more about physical strength, thereby creating the market for all kinds of training equipment, programs, and supplements. Another very "desirable" (and hence profitable for capitalists) trait for men is also all the things they can buy for themselves and especially their girlfriends/wives, to be _seen_ as a good provider.
@@breh9243 of course, and me too. But as I pointed out, men are pressured in other ways that then don't apply to women either. Either way, we need to be careful not to pressure people in the opposite direction either. Make-up can be (and is for a lot of people) fun to use, keeping in shape and giving gifts for your loved ones aren't bad things either. What we learn here is that it's not a gender issue but a class issue, since the pressure really ultimately comes from manufacturing the trends by the capitalists who profit from selling the products. There has been and will be trends without capitalists too of course, but the damages would be much fewer when there isn't a full ruling class trying to make as much profit off them as they can.
